Okay, okay,..

About the Gourcuff matter - the fact that my question was answered with counter-questions speaks for itself.
But, let it be, it's better to have a prophet tantra mantra and gibber blabber about a certain phenomenon then watch matches and have your own opinion based on what you see.

QUOTE
Right now he is the best youth player we have. He is better than gennaro/paloschi/abate etc. I just dont see your logic.

Well, God help me, but I can't see yours. Based on what?? On Chelsea wanting him? Are you sure they want him even? What's your logic? How many Abate matches did you see? How many Gourcuff matches? I mean, your statements look so defined, like your a Arsenal scout who needs a match or two and says: he's good, get him/he's crap, let Liverpool have him.

And - best Milan youth player...Pato, Pato, Pato, Pato,...

QUOTE
The only thing I can see in your arguement is that hes not italian. At milan he was barely given chances to prove himself, furthermore our coach is no youth developer as can be seen by many examples so i can't see how you can judge him just like that.

Racial issues are interesting, but not at this point. You can turn everything into a racial dispute, if you want.

Adebayor is a sub par player. If he were to join the club i would commit suicide. Let Borriello get over his injury problems and you will see we dont need another target striker

Let us not go to far. I've seen worse players join Milan in my life. No need to get radical yet.

whoarethepatriots, you're the resident Crociati fan - what would you say to Paloschi coming back to Milan next year instead of the year after? He's really hitting form for them (and for the U21s).

You have not seen a player of Adebayor's quality join Milan for 25m! If it happens and I pray to Paolo it does not, it's not gonna happen for anything less than that amount and he surely is going to be the most overpriced player I have seen Milan buy.

I would rather have him than sheva/borriello or inzaghi playing up front. Besides there are no other WC strikers right now that we have a chance of signing.

villa? the guy isnt really young (28 next year) and valencia have to sell, 30m should do it.
Darunia
Should have signed Torres a few years back... Torres-Pato would be amazing =/

Still Borriello is a big CF and we need one, Villa wouldn't complement Pato as well, he is an amazing player though. Still Milan will be outbid by City, Chelsea, etc
MizNelson
I don't really consider Borriello to be a big CF.

I dont regard pato as a youth player anymore. He is indispensable for our club and a starter. I'm judging gourcuff on his value and his performances. Was abate/gennaro in the uefa cup? Where is bordeaux right now compared to torino/reggina. You can say all you like but many people share the view that gourcuff is much better than any of our loaned out players.

I dont see abate/di gennaro linked with top teams?

The maldini comment was in no way disrespectful to him. I was trying to imply he won't be in our squad anymore.

huh.gif Have you seen Adebayor play? I hope we go bankrupt before we sign that mediocre idiot. 30m? I would not pay more than 5m for him!

And 12 million for Kjaer? No way!

What are you living in 2000?

Right now prices are inflated and if we want good players we have to pay the cash. Simple as that. Would you say paying the inflated 22 million for pato was a mistake?

Regarding Adebayor:

He has 12 goals this season. Furthermore, hes been injured for 1/3 of the games.

He's big/strong/great at controlling the baller/ very fast and has a good shot. His finishing would improve over time.

The quality of the player has nothing to do with the quality of the club or its league standing.

Di Gennaro has been linked with a return to Genoa (who own the other half of him).
Abate has been linked with a move to Roma.
Those to are reasonably good clubs.

C'mon guys you don't really think that Abate is better that Yoan, i really hope so. Yoan plays in a team that are fighting for the french league 1 title for the first time after 5 or 6 years, the first time that some club is in run with Lyon (the same lyon that should beat barca for 2 goals at least in the champions league 1/8 final first leg) and Yoan is the best player there, he is a third scorer and first assistant, absolutely the best player in a club that isn't 18th (torino) in Serie A. He have scored 7 goals and he have 9 assist, abate 1 goal and 1 assist so c'mon abate is not anywhere near to yoan. Just admit that you don't like Yoan, but don't write he is a bad player or that such as abate is better only to write something anti-Yoan... I don't like some players too (Kuyt, Raul and so on) but i would never say that they are crap of players only because i don't like them or that Paloschi is better etc etc....

Bring Yoan to Milan!
Tennie
I never said Gourcuff was a bad player. Never once. Please do not put words in my mouth. I also never said that I thought Abate was a better player. What I DID say was that I would prefer to see Abate and Paloschi back instead of Gourcuff.

No, I don't like Gourcuff. I think he doesn't have the mental toughness to play for Milan, while he does very well at a lesser team - in other words if Milan brings him back, I think he'll pull a Gila.

Why do I want to see abate and paloschi back? They're Milan youth products, they're talented, and I think they could really help the team.

serie a > ligue 1 but not by that much.

serie a was the best ligue for the better part of the past 25 years but obviously this is no longer the case, at least for the time being.

so i dont think it's completly out of order to compare players from the two leagues, even though the syles are different and one is still superior (albeit by a small margin IMO).

i mean people have no problem comparing kaka with CR, messi with CR, buffon with casillas, etc. all different player from different leagues.

Paloschi is indeed beginning to hit top form, but i think it would be more beneficial for us and him if he gets a years worth of Serie A experience first. Once he plays regularly in Serie A, it would be the perfect time to bring him back.

Bottom line, he still needs to mature a little bit, but i would be in no way disappointed if he was brought back next season.

maybe but i think he deserves deffinitely one more chance!

We can play with him and with Abate easy so our midfield will be younger i totally agree with that , we don't need seedorf for the next season and we don't need janku and so on, I would find the spot for either abate and yoan but deffinitely yoan shoved this year that he has a lot of potential he deffinitly can become a really really great player and when he become such as that i want to see him playing in milan!

Baah, again the useless Gourcuff discussion. Again, no one admits that in fact watching Bordeaux and lining up Bordeaux stats isn't the same. Again, a unfair metodology and logic has been applied without thinking twice.

Pato not considered a youngster; well okay, then I can say I don't conisder Gourcuff a youngster any more and compare him to Kaka and Ronaldinho. But that's not the point. No comparisom is needed. Important should be:

1) did our loaned players succeed, no matter where, 2) do we need them back (- their position), 3) can we integrate them into our gameplay (current and planned for next season), 4) is this the point in which Milan gets a prepared product or just to early

Most of the points all 3 players (Abate, Gourcuff, Paloschi) fullfill. There's no sentiment, no "I don't like him". The implications made in some posts are unneccessary and blown out of proportions.

Torino, Reggina and Bordeaux shouldn't be compared, because we talk only of 1 player. That makes the differences defined and unreachable. I again only can ask one question: do you guys watch french league matches?

Whats your point? Also yes I watch the french league (We get a free channel here that broadcasts the games).

Bordeaux's team quality is much higher than torino or reggina. You cannot deny that.

Regarding gourcuff, if there was a proper repalcement for him at bordeaux and he was able to get proper rest instead of playing 90 minutes in every single game, he would dominate even more. He does the job of kaka and pirlo that they do for milan for bordeaux and on top of that scores goals.

+1 exactly. A lot of people insulting the management when we loaned beckham. In the end it turned out to be a stroke of genius.

Tennie
Well, first off I reject the 'Gourcuff never played' argument because, well, I think he DID play. Yes, he played more in his first year at Milan than his second, but he didn't always only come on at the very end of a game.

Secondly, in my opinon at Milan his first touch was often good but his second touch sucked. That to me indicates that he was putting himself under too much pressure. (hence the gila comparison) And that he didn't take advantage of the opportunities he had (which is what Gattuso - whose opinion I trust regarding Milan and its players - said recently. the article should still be up on mediaset's website).

I'm not arguing 'better' choices, by the way. I'm saying I'd PREFER to see some of the primavera kids come back and actually get a chance. Other than Paloschi to an extent, none of them got much of a chance at Milan. Furthermore, I think it takes a lot of internal toughness to play really well at a team that's battling relegation (as both Toro and Regigna are, for example. Parma is in 2nd in Serie B and doing quite well there). There's also the fact that Paloschi, Abate and Di Gennaro have all 3 done well for the Azzurrini.

French Debate: ‘Zidanesque’ Gourcuff Reaching The Heights

Comparisons of Yoann Gourcuff to Zinedine Zidane have been numerous in recent months, however, these will only intensify after the Bordeaux man scored a breathtaking goals last night, which had more than a touch of Zizou brilliance to it.

“Zidanesque”

It would take a writer of Shakespearian eloquence to adequately do justice to Yoann Gourcuff’s wonderful strike for Girondins de Bordeaux against Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Chaban-Delmas last night.

Picking up Mathieu Chalmé’s pass with his back to go, Gourcuff instinctively recognised the threat posed to the ball by Sylvain Armand, dragging the ball back first with his left foot and then with his right – ‘une roulette’ - as he turned brilliantly to face goal. But his path was immediately blocked by Sammy Traoré, who was navigated brilliantly as the onrushing attacker shifted the ball from his right boot onto his left. Faced with only Mickaël Landreau to beat, Gourcuff maintained his composure, toe-poking a powerful strike into the far corner of the net.

Gourcuff's wonder goal <---click for youtube video

The beauty of this goal was the speed and grace with which it was achieved, and which is next to impossible to convey in mere words. Gourcuff’s play was as much a natural phenomenon and was as beautiful as the Northern Lights, as he sparkled and shone on an evening that would have the French media salivating “Zidanesque!” come full time.

Even the great Zizou, who, of course, also saw his career take off in Bordeaux, would have been immensely proud of Gourcuff’s effort.

Speaking after Bordeaux’s hugely impressive 4-0 success, the midfielder appeared to be lost for words as to describe the magic three seconds, in which he made accomplished defenders look as useless as training ground cones. “This is a bit complicated,” he told the media after the game, almost embarrassed by the fuss. “It was my instinct.”

The Rise And Rise

This intrinsic “instinct” that Gourcuff possesses appears to be appearing with increasing regularity as the man who could not break into AC Milan’s first team regularly last season grows into a continental revelation.

After five months of regular first team football, France is now convinced by his talents, so too are many Milanistas; next it is the world for the 22 year-old.

Hailed as an heir apparent to Zinedine Zidane when he joined AC Milan in the summer of 2006, the move proved a step too far too soon for the Breton-born star. Having made his debut with Stade Rennais in 2004, Gourcuff had enjoyed wall-to-wall first team football and fleeting appearances from the Diavoli’s bench did not suit him.

This problem grew particularly acute in his second season in Milan, which yielded even less game-time for the increasingly frustrated Gourcuff.

Faced with the prospect of playing in less than half of Milan’s games this season, Gourcuff decided to gamble, electing to move to Bordeaux on loan for the duration of this season. It proved an inspired decision as his stock has only increased since he made his (goal scoring) debut for les Girondins against Caen on the opening weekend of the season.

Head coach Laurent Blanc was quick to recognise the youngster’s talents, installing him immediately as the team’s chief play-maker and placing a phenomenal amount of responsibility on his shoulders. For the most part, the elegant midfielder lived up to his billing, with a poor performance against Chelsea on Matchday 1 of the Champions League a notable exception.

Given the standard of his play, Raymond Domenech awarded Gourcuff with his first international call-up on the basis of his superb start to the season. Quickly, the fledgling superstar asserted himself on the international scene, thrusting himself forward to become les Bleus’ natural leader of play. The highlight of his six-match international career was a tremendous long-range goal against Romania, which haul France back from a 2-0 deficit in a key World Cup qualifying match.

Although much of the focus on Gourcuff’s game has been the spectacular goals that he has scored – add a superb effort against Toulouse earlier in the season to that equation – putting the ball in the net is not what is central to his game. Indeed, he admitted so last night as he explained: “I do not shoot well... so I used the tip [of the boot].”

A cool head, perceptive passing and an impressive work-rate are all, arguably, more valuable contributions to both domestic and national teams than his (relatively) few goals.

Already, in just six international matches, Gourcuff has four assists while he has chalked up five decisive passes (with another to be awarded from last weekend) in Ligue 1.

Back To Milan?

Such high level performances have inevitably sparked the question: will Gourcuff go back to Milan at the end of the season? The answer, for the time being, looks likely to be no.

And this is probably not for the want of trying from Milan, who are doubtless regretting the estimated €15 million release clause they placed in the loan deal as it is a figure that looks decided small at present.

Back near his family (his father coaches Lorient and took in the game at the Stade Chaban-Delmas last night), Gourcuff appears to be immensely happy and, perhaps more crucially, he appears to have fostered a tremendous relationship with coach Laurent Blanc.

Indeed, it could well be that the future of Gourcuff bound to that of ‘Le Président’. Although the player has denied that Blanc staying at Bordeaux would be a decisive factor in a decision, which he “will not think about until April or May”, he has admitted that it would certainly have a bearing on his future.

With the French media reporting that Blanc could be destined to sign a new deal in the coming weeks, president of the Aquitaine club, Jean-Louis Triaud, is investigating ways of raising the money required to sign the internationalist on a permanent deal.

“Everyone wants to keep Gourcuff in Bordeaux? That’s good; we’ll have to open a subscription,” he joked last night.

Realistically, Bordeaux, buoyed by a presence in the Champions League this season, will find the money to sign the prodigious youngster if they are given the go-ahead.

World Class

And why not? When players such as Robbie Keane are signed for a song by the likes of Liverpool in the English Premier League, to acquire a potentially world class player from an AC Milan outfit that has clearly missed a trick represents a great piece of business.

Few players in the world could possess the skill, vision and instinct that Gourcuff required to find the net last night. Having shown this kind of impulse on more than one key occasion this season, the 22 year-old is becoming mentally tougher and more consistent and is exactly the kind of rare match-winning commodity that can lift teams above the ordinary.

It would be unfair to compare Gourcuff with Zidane, however, the offensive-midfielder certainly has all the attributes at his disposal to become one of the world’s greatest. If you need further convincing, just look at last night’s goal again; you won’t get tired of it…

A very good article I find worth reading. I think Robin hit the points spot on. I encourage everyone to give it a read.

David Bellion: Yoann Gourcuff Is Essential To Bordeaux

When Girondins de Bordeaux announced the arrival of Yoann Gourcuff, it was a deal that was met with guarded enthusiasm. Supporters of the Aquitaine club recognised his potential, but after failing to make progress with the Rossoneri, some questioned whether he would be the real deal. Over the last few months, Gourcuff has set about emphatically answering those questions, so much so, that team-mate David Bellion considers his midfield colleague as priceless to the side.

“We know that, given the season he's put in, Yoann Gourcuff is practically indispensable to the side,” he declared to Ligue 1's official website. “But if he needs a rest at any point then we'll have to do without him and set ourselves up differently tactically. At Bordeaux everybody in the squad is good enough to play.”

Another key member of the Bordeaux squad this term has been Fernando Cavenaghi, however, the Argentine will miss several weeks because of injury, presenting the chance for Bellion to start. “I'm happy to be starting games but, at the same time, it's a real shame to have lost someone like Fernando,” Bellion stated.

Bordeaux, who currently lie third in Ligue 1, trail league leaders Olympique Lyonnais by just three points. Indeed, les Girondins only have to face one side – Lyon – in the top six in the final nine games of the season – a run that is perceived to be advantageous to Laurent Blanc’s men.

“We’re never going to say that our fixture list is easier than for the others,” Bellion declared. “We can’t slack off. In every match we’ve got to try to get the three points. Nothing is decided yet and if it stays that way through to the end of the season it’s going to be very exciting for the fans and those watching on TV.

“For us players it’s equally exciting even if we would have liked to have been leading the pack at this stage of the season.”

Bordeaux’s next Ligue 1 assignment comes in the form of a home game against Nancy on April 4.

Have I told anywhere Gourcuff does not deserve a chance while Abate and Paloschi do? I hate to quote myself, don't force me to do that...

haha tongue.gif damn I tried....oh well

Anyways what I am wondering to know is what was your point in the last statement. You were just stating the obvious.

I'm just not a fan of comparing clubs on such a base. And I'm also not a fan of the one-sided idealization picture of Gourcuff build around. He has good and bad sides.

Yes but we can say that about every player. Even maldini.

True enough, but the same standards aren't applied to Yoann that are, for example, to other players.

Gourcuff opens Milan door
France starlet Yoann Gourcuff insists his time at Milan was positive and could return to the Rossoneri in the summer.

The 22-year-old fantasista is currently on loan at Bordeaux and has produced some truly world-class performances.

French newspaper L'Equipe hailed him as the “New Zidane” after he scored a wonderful goal against Paris Saint Germain earlier this season.

Gourcuff joined Milan from Rennes in 2006 and made just 47 appearances in two seasons with the club.

He enjoyed a difficult relationship with Coach Carlo Ancelotti and grew bitter at the lack of first team football available.

“At Milan we didn't play the football that I was used to,” Gourcuff said in an interview with France Football.

“The play was more fluid, a little slower and more reflective. Everyone occupied a specific area on the pitch and the technical quality was a lot higher than that seen in the French League.”

Gourcuff, who has become the focal point of the France national team, then admitted that Milan and Andrea Pirlo schooled him well.

“Pirlo is fantastic, I learned a lot from him, as I did from Clarence Seedorf and Ricky Kaka,” he enthused.

Bordeaux have a right to buy Gourcuff for £12m written into the loan deal they settled with Milan last summer.

The French outfit are struggling to raise the capital to buy Gourcuff outright, though, and he may well end up back at Milanello.

His feud with Ancelotti may prompt Milan to put him on the market again, however, as he is now believed to be worth at least £25m.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in his signature and Milan, who are in need of capital themselves, could well cash in.

I'm not really up to another round of the Martyrdom of Saint Yoann, so won't be commenting further on it other than to note that there IS a Gourcuff thread and stuff specific to him might be better there than in the transfer thread (unless, of course, there's news regarding him moving somewhere or staying in Bordeaux, etc).

Besides, the only Bordeaux we should be talking about here is from Pepperidge Farm. smile.gif

WE WILL GIVE THE MAXIMUM
3/27/2009 10:17:00 PM
Carlo Ancelotti has fun denying the meeting with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and talked about the possible movements of Rossoneri players ahead of next season.

MILANELLO - During the bwin event today, Carlo Ancelotti spoke. The Milan coach said it isn't feasible he will leave even if the team finish third and first denied then made a joke about his alleged meeting with with Florentino Perez: "There's no truth in that. By the way, no one wrote we had cannelloni as our first course...". On other topics the Milan coach continued: "Milan's cycle will be over only when Berlusconi will not have the enthusiasm to guide the club anymore, but that's not the case right now. With two smart purchases Milan will be competitive again: a central defender, and a striker, because we have to reinforce that department. But it's not said it will be a big striker, because we already have Borriello. In any case until today we haven't talked about the market yet with the club. Ronaldinho? There are no problems and in any case he is unsellable, it's his first season and we are convinced that if he continues to work with us next season he can do even better."
Finally, on Ricardo Kaká's absence in the match against Ecuador: "He isn't doing very well yet and probably he will only play the second match with Brazil, but he should return completely fine to give us a hand. In the table, Genoa are our most dangerous rivals but Milan have the advantage they are playing at home in their last three matches, and everyone will give the maximum because they will want to fight until the end."

What is Carlo saying? we also need an overhaul in midfield...seedorf needs to go, emerson, Beckham.....bring back Abate, gourcuff...I believe they'll come back..Beckham wouldn't be here next year so i'm guessing he'll be gone..I wish that Abate would come back...Bringing bak our players gives me joy...it really does honestly...

^^ Ah, the Mediaset list, isn't it?

Speaking of Mediaset, both they and tuttomercatoweb are noting today that Fabio Cannavaro is out of contract at end of season and that Milan may pick him up. Two years ago, I'd have been thrilled at the idea. Now? Not so much.
