The arrival of Oguchi Onyewu (27) could not be the only signing for AC Milan's backline. In fact, they are interested in Brazil and Corinthians left-back Andre Santos, who was already tracked by the Rossoneri before. It is reported that AC Milan officials will soon make a bid for the Brazillian.

i had read that yesterday but after that gallaini denied abt santos in the article on acmilan.com and saying that the objective was fabino only

i think eventually Milan will sign Fanbiano because that what Leonardo wants He want a player who can play anywhere outside the box and has a tactics .... i think milan making a huge mistake focusing on one player what if didnt go well then what ?! there is nothing in the market .... Adebayour was wanted from Anchelotti not by milan because Galliani didnt say anything about him in this market.

There have been rumours here in belgium that viudez and cardaccio will be loaned out to Standard Liege

They are the only 2 good youngsters that I think can make an impact!!!

Why would they loan them?? Its just really getting ridiculous now
han2503
And @ blue I don't know where you got this notion from that Milan have money to spend. Because Galliani made it pretty clear that we don't have any as the Kaka and Yoann money already went into taking care of the books.

The real stupid thing is that we've spent around 15m making idiotic co-ownership deals. That is what's happening here.

So don't try and defend this BS. They went the youth route because its cheaper. But if you're really going to do this well try actually getting good youngsters not your own kids that barely made it to the Reggina starting line-up

And no there will be no 3 world class players coming in, we'll be lucky to get Fabiano and I don't know about you but I certainly wouldn't classify him as World Class rolleyes.gif

Good Point that what milan is trying to do create a team of nothing youngster and make it world class ... i hope we make throw that top 3 like galliani said clearly Milan will manage to get to the Top 3 not winning the title.

No Red Number anymore. Said Berluscuni ~~~ full of BS

Nice post Blue, but i think the above statement is other way around tongue.gif .

I agree with most of the things u have said. and im happy we are investing more in youth. But i dont think we would be competitive enough considering the inexperienced youth. But i will wait and see how they do. Hope Milan will be Great again smile.gif

u're right.....its good to have youngsters and all but it'll be a waste if the environment for their development ain't suitable, case in point- viudez played about 2mins last season, didn't see that much of cardacio either. if they don't develop reasonably fast we might become a sorry case like arsenal who are simply just pretenders to the title, parading young players who take forever to mature (walcott made the world cup list in 06' as "a bright potential" don't forget sa2010 is just around the corner and i still don't think he's become more than just "a bright potential"). let's all just wait &see what approach leo brings on this issue cos carlo gave pato inspirng confidence

Jetzt liegt`s an Huntelaar

VFB Stuttgart are interested in Huntelaar as well. They're willing to pay 15 million plus bonuses up to 5 million depending on their success in the upcoming season. It seems as if Real have agreed to their terms, but Huntelaar seems to prefer Milan. Problem is, that Real don't want a to give him away for loan and that Huntelaar is a bit p!ssed that we seem to prefer Fabiano.

Milan, there is an offer for Fabiano. Huntelaar is a goal

"The Milan has made a formal proposal to Sevilla for Luis Fabiano and the player is happy and proud of this." Said Jose Fuentes, agent Fabiano Lusi, in connection with Sky Sports 24. AC Milan, then, has for motto "O Fabuloso," the center of Brazil and Seville in Confederations Cup that saw two goals to the Azzurri. "The player - continued Fuentes - has already said that his desire is to play in Milan next season. I do not know the amount of the bid, but there is this formal proposal and is also very important that the player has said who wants Milan, now it is up to the club rossonero and find the Seville Agreement, and then I attended my talk with Milan. rescissoria and Clause 'of 30 million, but Luis Fabiano has completed a cycle 4 years with Sevilla, AC Milan now has a great opportunity for him. Again, the player has said publicly that he wants to come in Italy, now it is up to the two clubs to agree. I think it will take 2-3 weeks for delivery, no more. " Rossonero the club should get a steep discount compared to 30 million set out in clause rescissoria.

"We try a tip that does not arrive by Monday. But nothing changes, the championship begins August 23 and there is time." Adriano Galliani, the Milan managing director, the microphones of SKY Sport24 responds to questions about campaign rossonera purchases. AC Milan is looking for a center forward. To whom does the name of Dutch Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Luis Fabiano of Brazil, he replied: "More or less." To Dutch as Real Madrid, the same Galliani seems about to leave for Spain and begin negotiations with the blancos of Florentino Perez.

And also that he cannot do what Fabiano does. Since he's a lot less mobile.

I'm guessing with Huntelaar it wouldn't be a 4-3-3, but more of a proper 4-3-1-2. While that wouldn't be there with Fabiano.

Yeah i think Leo will stick with the 4-3-1-2 if we buy Fabiano as it takes time to completly change the formation people have to come in

Yup..but while on paper it would be a 4-3-1-2, it wouldn't function exactly like that. It would be more free roaming. Now would that be possible with Huntelaar, I don't know.

So tell me if we did spend around 70 million this transfer season, would you start believing in this project? I didn't say 3 world class players, I said 1 great CF, 1 good CB, 1 decent mid. Oneywu is a good defender and we are lucky we got him for free because his price tag is easily 10 million right now after his confed cup performances.

Di gennaro and abate are good players, I used to think they were trash too until I started to watch a few of reggina's and torino's games. They will surprise you, like they surprised me cool.gif

Final note: I'm not trying to defend what Galliani does, I don't like it as much as everyone else here but we gotta think realisticlly. We don't have silvio anymore. Thats 30 million gone AT THE VERY LEAST every season. So yes were not going to be as strong in the market as we were in the past. But i'm not gonna jump ship just because things got a little bit difficult and neither are you because we are true fans and often agree. I am just trying to clarify what actually has happened here, not defend it per say.

I have a good feeling that Milan this season will do really well. Last season I was not so confident but this season seeing Leo gives me a new hope. I think a change in coach was what we really needed more than anything else. All the players have said he is very stimulating in training, (not sexually tongue.gif) so I have hope that maybe he can do things that carlo was too stubborn to do, win the serie A tongue.gif

AC Milan GM Adriano Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport : "With the signing of Oguchi Onyewu, our defence is now complete and we are not interested in FC Porto left-back Aly Cissokho or in other players anymore. Moreover, we count on Alessandro Nesta, who has recovered from his terrible back injury. Our transfer market is almost over".

Oh how I love how you can lie straight up and somehow make everyone believe you. Not only that you have been doing this for 20 years straight and works like a charm.

our market is far from over, this bullsh*tter pull this stunt every year, its rather getting tiresome now. Why don't you just tell people the truth instead of beating around the bush.

Porto Defender Aly Cissokho Could Still Join Milan - Agent
The left-back may still make his way to the San Siro, according to his representative...

Porto's youngster Aly Cissokho nearly completed a transfer to Milan before a failed medical, due to an alleged problem with his teeth. However, the player's agent, Fabrizio Ferrari, claims he could still make his way to Serie A.

"Currently, the negotiations have not been completely abandoned, but at the moment nothing is happening, we'll see in the coming days," he explained to MilanNews.

"Aly wants Milan, his desire is undoubtedly Milan."

However, the representative also made it clear that his client had other suitors.

"So far only Lyon has made an offer, but it was rejected. We were only focusing on Milan, unfortunately now we also have to pursue other options," he confirmed.

Cissokho just joined Porto in January 2009, but his excellent performances under coach Jesualdo Ferreira have made him one of the top prospects in Europe.

Yesterday, Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani claimed that Cissokho was no longer an objective on the transfer market.

I have faith in Di Gennaro and Abate. I do not consider them to be very good but then again I don't think I would consider any of Barcelona's home grown player to be very good if they played for low quality teams. We always say we don't give our young players a chance well this may be what we were looking for so I'll wait to see them play first before coming to a conclusion

PS I'm a bit biased against Abate since he's a winger and I don't really like their kind while Di Gennaro's style hit me from the very first moment. He runs in a weird way but he's got potential.

Hmm you lost me when you said we'll spend 70m. laugh.gif We won't even spend a 4th of that

1 great CF will be our limit if that because they're already talking about not getting anyone if Sevilla don't reduce their asking price of 20m for Fabiano. Onyewu came on a free and he's a mystery to me, I don't like to judge players only based on summer tournaments, if that were the case then you'de have a team full of duds as lots of average players tend to perform out of their skins for the odd international tournamenet. The only reason they went for him is because he was out of contract nothing more nothing less.

Regarding the decent mid. I don't see anyone coming in. And I'd prefer not buying anyone if we're going to just buy just for the sake of it. Like we did with Emerson, Vogel, etc We either buy someone that could take Seedorf's place or we shouldn't even bother with it.

I know you're counting the wasted money on buying back our own players from co-ownership as part of that 70m you're somehow predicting we'll spend but to me, that's all wasted and would have been happier had we used it to get more gardeners for the San Siro turf rolleyes.gif

Abate is the only one I would have wanted back as he's the only one that has a realistic shot of making it and maybe even hold a spot. All the others? Di Gennaro is not good enough and Zigoni and Barretta are unknown quantities and probably are not ready.

This project imo is a disaster waiting to happen. We should have started planning for it earlier. You don't just suddenly wake up one morning, have a team full of 30 plus players and say "I don't want to spend anymore money on the club, lets start pulling our kids from the primavera and putting them in the first team" It just does not work that way and this is what they're doing. How can you suddenly expect the club to stand on foundations that are made out of sand? Because this is what they're doing. They're expecting kids from the primavera to suddenly break through when in the past they did not give a rat's @ss about it. This is not a project. But Silvio again washing his hands of any financial responsabilites towards the club. And this will only lead us into mediocrity

I don't want to be an I told you so person, because I hate those people, but when in 2 years time we're a midtable team scraping for UEFA Cup I'm sorry Europa Cup football you'll see who was right and who was wrong in this.

I'm all for giving youngsters the chance. But I'm against what we're trying to do which is going from one extreme to the other.

First the kids could barely make a bench sitting on Coppa matches and suddenly we're promoting every kid that can run from the primavera to the full team in the hopes of fillinf the team and shutting the fans up by saying we have enough players

my feelings exactly, we're filling up the team with these guys but they've gotta have playing time if they're to develop, for instance antonini showed some talent last season& had he got plenty more playing time we might not be contemplating gettin another full back, also gourcuff wouldn't have left for cheap, viudez would have played more than one minute, what about flamini too?

This isn't quite my prediction but i do believe the next 2-3 years we will struggle...depends on the 3 or 4 places for the C.L. we will be behind the usual 2 and possibly the Viola...as i posted in another thread the fixation with the early 90's success has many people biased as to where we should be and what we should be winning...we are a club in a transitional period and a crucial one at that were this could dictate the long term future and stature of the club.

At the moment we are getting by on our recent past and the clubs prestige but for how long?
There will be a time when that won't be enough to attract players no doubt we will hear from a player in the not to distant future "I didn't choose to go to A.C Milan because i want to win things"

Agreed.

But I do think that there is one way to go through a transitional period and another and Milan are going down the wrong route. Its so obvious the mistakes they've made over the last few seasons. The fact that they choose to overlook what is already in front of them and going for the South Americans. I'm talking about overlooking players like Cigarini, Criscito, etc You've got the mid table teams in Serie A exchanging these players for small ammounts of money and instead of pouncing on them we're wasting time trying to get the first Brazilian that comes up on the radar

My concern for this fetish was noted early into last season and the situation hasn't improved as we all know it's getting worse.
There are many reasons for this and some will agree strongly and vica versa but heres my take on the situation

1. A coach will always favour his own nationalilty but this started before Leo was appointed so that doesn't make sense.
2. scouting...as in is there any happening? Any club small or large should surely be on the look out for these talented home grown players..daily in the english press i read aresenal have signed...Everton are looking at....all from smaller clubs yet we get playerx from brazil..or brazilian playerY etc etc
3. The coaching set-up..now i'm talking about the great Franco i'm talking at the induction level..how can so many players enter the set-up and hardly produce anything there has to be a dissection of the process and the criterea needed to be either a coach or what the player needs.
4.Money, we all know that more or less that Don Silvio's investment in the club has finished..so this relates to point 2...invest some money and huge sums aren't needed in a more expansive scouting network across Italy.

So in summary i believe fundamentals at the club have been neglected now is the time to rebuild not just on the pitch but off it to!

i'm going to wait and see how all this plays out before I say that Milan are going to be scraping for UEFA cup spots in 2 years (which i don't believe).

i agree with galiani in the fact that real has EXTREMELY screwed the transfer market this year. the same way chelsea screwed it up when abramovich got to chelsea.

i have a feeling that when things settle out we will be just fine. it may take us awhile to get back to our glory years, but we've been here before and we made it through just fine. we have no idea what's going on behind closed doors and we have no idea what's going to happen in 2-3 years.

this is a new coach with a new strategy. you can't expect everything to change back in 1 year. true, things may have been mismanaged over the past couple of years, but i still feel like that's because carlo was our coach. and he was not a good coach when it came to developing young talent.

let's give leonardo sometime to get in there and build the team he wants to build.

too much doom and gloom in this thread...things could be a lot worse

Not doom and gloom i just think it's realism...we have only been at the ultimate top once when we dominated everything...i'm all for the process of change and hope it is done with some strategic sense and patience and with a degree of trust in the youth and in the transfer market and not this "pulling wool over eyes" of the last 2 seasons and i've said numerous times that i loved Carlo as a coach but his lack of trusting the youth did make my blood boil!

perfect, this is exactly what i'm trying to say. I feel the same regarding the coach. What the big change we need to make was already made, that is why I have a little bit more faith in milan.

@han:

I'll brawl with you on this one so lets break this down:

Right now (imo):

Goal keepers: Abbiati (decent), Dida (poor), Kalac (abysmal)

Defenders: Nesta (very good), Thiago Silva (n/a), Oneywu (n/a), kaladze (terrible), bonera (decent), Zambrotta (good), Janku (decent), antonini (poor)

Mid: Gattuso (good), Ambrosini (good), Flamini (very good), Seedorf (poor), Ronaldinho (poor), abate (n/a), Di gennaro (n/a), Pirlo (world class).

Forewards: Borriello (decent), Pato (worldclass), Inzaghi (good)

-----

The n/a are placed there because we have not seen these players take part in an offical Serie A game for the club so we cannot judge these players yet until they have played. But looking at this squad, I feel that we can challenge for the League with the proper cover. We need a CF because 3 is not near enough. Second we need a goal keeper because those 3 are not good enough. Third we need a better LB because Janku is not enough. The midfield looks good with maybe another addition is needed.

-------------------------

If Leo plays 4-3-3

----------------Dida----------------------
Zambrotta--Thiago Silva-Nesta-Janku

-Flamini----Pirlo------Ambrosini----

Abate---------Pato-------------Ronaldinho

or

----------------Dida----------------------

Bonera--Thiago Silva-Nesta--Zambrotta-

Gattuso----Pirlo-------Ambrosini----

Pato-----------CF-----------Ronaldinho

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think these 2 line ups are quality and can defeat 17 out of 20 serie A teams. Yes we will have trouble beating inter, fio, and juve but who said we didn't last season? I think with the right amount of effort and the benching of certain players we can def obtain a better milan than carlos. Furthermore, with a bench of some young players who will see playing time, we can build a balanced team which can compete in 2-3 years for all honors.

Yes next season our objective is third, fair enough, we are building a project. But its not gonna be like that forever. You are demanding instant results when it is impossible because we are dealing with the loss of silvio, which will do its damage for a season or two.

i have a feeling that when things settle out we will be just fine. it may take us awhile to get back to our glory years, but we've been here before and we made it through just fine. we have no idea what's going on behind closed doors and we have no idea what's going to happen in 2-3 years.

this is a new coach with a new strategy. you can't expect everything to change back in 1 year. true, things may have been mismanaged over the past couple of years, but i still feel like that's because carlo was our coach. and he was not a good coach when it came to developing young talent.

let's give leonardo sometime to get in there and build the team he wants to build.

too much doom and gloom in this thread...things could be a lot worse

I agree !!

il_diavolo_mtl
We hAve invested too much in young playyers to piss them away a la antonini. What I see is a group of fans that have taken the form of their old coach Carlo. If this was a barcarole thread I guarantee they would sell the old to get the new. Long story short, maybe Leo is more of a teacher a " professor" and can make greatness out of potential maybe his scheme calls for few playmakers and Alot of speed outside. Just tell yourselves that Last year our midfield outside of pirlo, r80 , Ricky and flamini IMO the midfield play was boring immovable and useless he is doing more then picking serie a starters in abate and Di gennaro he is making every mid hungrier because there will be competition to start fora prestigious side with cl aspirations viudez carnaccio Di gennaro Abate will have to consistantly impress to staart each week because they cAme to Milan to play NOT to bring Carlo coffee ( in viudez's case )

----------------Dida----------------------

Bonera--Thiago Silva-Nesta--Zambrotta-

Gattuso----Pirlo-------Ambrosini----

Pato-----------CF-----------Ronaldinho

You're basing your theory on the defence on Nesta, he is World Class not even very good good but World Class. But we don't have any gaurantees that he will be fit for more then a couple of games. This is the big problem. Thiago Silva for all we know could be another Roque Junior and Onyewu might not make it in Serie A. You have to take these scenarios into account not just looking at the team sheet and saying we're ok.

Regarding the midfield, aside from Rino, Flamini, Pirlo and Dinho its very poor, we used to have the best midfield in the world, not even Barca could compete and now we're reduced to this. We need another top quality mid for next season. And playing Ambro and Rino in the same midfield is a disaster waiting to happen, we all saw how stale that is over the last 3 seasons as Carlo insisted on it mercilesly. It's like putting some kind of hot sauce over your eyes it hurt watching so much. And its not just because its a new system it would work differently, they're still the same players and Ambro would still play clumsily lunging around all over the place and making bad passes.

I don't see either line-up as top quality we need another 3 players to make it that and that is not going to happen, Frankly I would be happy with 3rd next season because it will be a miracle if we even make that.

Regarding me wanting instant results, no that is not it at all. I understand what is going on, I understand that we're trying to make a transition but we're making it all wrong. Its not just about saying I want to start relying on my youngsters now. Its ridiculous for them to start doing it now when just a short few months ago they didn't give a cr@p about the primavera and were happy to loan any primavera kid that reached his age limit. Like I said a million times before, they're trying to build a new house on foundations made out of sand and it will crumble down you mark my words

They initially wanted 30m, if that is to be believed that is...

But Milan first bid 14m. I think the fact that Fabiano wants to come and his agent is pushing for it made them lower it so significantly.

Still there is a 4m gap, let's hope Galliani doesn't p!ss the deal away, because Fabiano is probably our last option before they start thinking about the nightmare that is Adebayour again panicsmiley2.gif

I don't think that Fabiano is good enought to play for Milan really guys : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lu%C3%ADs_Fabiano#Club_career_2

His career wasent so impresiv, if we sold Boriello 20-25 Mil we could bring WC striker, i would love to see Eto with Ronaldhino again...
nuh
i don't think boriello would cost 20 mil he is not good enough and he only 7 games i think he would cost about 11mil
and Fabiano had a bad season last year cuz he got badly injured and was out for 3 or 4 months i don't blame him though but he was the leading goal scorer for copa del ray he scored 7 goals i think
LaPalma
Who would pay that much money for Boriello? Ahem, we could improve his stats on FM 2010 so that ManCity wants him.
nuh
i dunno if this will help but this is for the people who are concerned about Fabiano anyways here you go

Yea he is, guy broke all records in USA, scored over 250 goals at young selection http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vedad_Ibi%C5%A1evi%C4%87

LaPalma
Youth records? That was years ago. He did some brilliant things for Hoffenheim last season till he picked up that injury in January.
But he's been injured for half a year so I don't think buying him would be wise.
nuh
the highest he has scored is 18 goals and i don't think this is good enough Fabiano not only did he score good amounts of goals but he also won things with Sevilla and now Brazil
Dzeko
Yea u guys are right but Fabiano is 29 and he is 23 we will see what will hapend, Milan should watch for this guy in the future of course if he don't get injuri prone... Fabiano can give us somthing for 2 max 3 season and 18 Mil € is a lot of money...

Fabiano is a bit of a late bloomer but I think he would do well at Milan, he's not world class but he is a solid striker and he'll score the odd 20 goals next season.

Calcio Debate: Milan Need To Start Spending, Or They Will Win Nothing Next Season

With the Rossoneri being so quiet this summer, Adam Scime sees them falling significantly adrift of their main competitors...

Italian champions Inter have had an effective transfer campaign this summer. They brought in two Genoa stars in Diego Milito and Thiago Motta to add depth and strength to their squad, while getting rid of some dead weight like Luis Jimenez and Julio Cruz.

Meanwhile, Juventus are looking to correct their mistakes from last year, signing highly-touted playmaker Diego, veteran centre-back Fabio Cannavaro, and are on the verge of a major coup in Fiorentina and Brazil star Felipe Melo.

What have the other giant in Italy, AC Milan, done you might ask? It seems they've only been taking steps backwards.

Where is Everybody Going?

The end of last season already saw the retirement of the legendary Paolo Maldini and long-time coach Carlo Ancelotti depart for the ambitious Chelsea, followed by their star midfielder, Kaka, being sold to Real Madrid for a huge amount of money - €68.5 million.

The problem is, it seems Milan have no intention of creating a squad that is competitive enough to contend on all fronts, despite their main voices in owner Sivilo Berlusconi and vice-president Adriano Galliani repeating ad nauseum that the club already is competitive.

Really? The last two seasons they have finished fifth and third in Serie A respectively and not made a dent in Europe - and now they have lost their Brazilian talisman, their best player.

Losing Their Touch

The sole moves of note have been acquiring United States international defender Oguchi Onyewu and bringing back Italy Under-21 substitute Ignazio Abete from his loan spell - neither of which have the capacity to contribute on a more than inconsistent basis.

The club's transfer campaigns of the past used to be dazzling. They spotted and snapped up the potential of Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Kaka, Cafu, and a few more when others were afraid to take the chance - now Milan look like they are the ones that are horrified.

Porto left-back Aly Cissokho was a step in the right direction, but apparently his dental work isn't up to scratch, resulting in a failed medical. Now, Milan are most commonly mentioned alongside Confederations Cup hero Luis Fabiano, but it can be argued even his acquisition will not be enough to see them match the Nerazzurri or Bianconeri.

Reinforcements Needed

Expecting Milan to find someone on the level of Kaka is unlikely, but if they believe the Sevilla striker will have the same influence as one of history's most expensive players they are sadly mistaken.

The fans seem to agree, protesting the club's meagre transfer operations in public. The truth is, Fabiano is only one step (should his transfer go through), but they need to climb the stairs even higher to reach their rivals by bringing in two more quality signings, preferably Cissokho and a proven midfielder who can add some spark to the side.

One can make an argument for Ronaldinho, but his best days are behind him and there is little to no chance he will carry the mantle like Kaka did, and relying on the former Barcelona man would be a gamble.

The budget may be balanced right now but, nonetheless, have you ever heard the saying 'it takes money to make money'?

Milan fans should continue to protest the lack of dealings, otherwise they can prepare themselves for another trophyless campaign.
