Ex-boss blasts Pato pressure
Thursday 10 January, 2008

Italy awaits the debut of Milan’s new golden boy Alexandre Pato, but the 18-year-old’s former Coach has hit out at the pressure on him.

With the Rossoneri’s Serie A season in need of a hero, the arrival of a Brazilian prodigy from Internacional has received huge publicity, bordering on hysteria.

However, Pato has played just 26 professional games in his career and ex-boss Abel Braga is angry at the weight of expectations after President Silvio Berlusconi recently declared the new recruit could hit the net 30 times.

“I heard that Pato will score 30 goals in six months and by saying such a thing you don’t help the boy to grow,” he raged.

“He is spoken of as the saviour, the man who can solve all the problems – this is not right.

“Too many responsibilities are a burden on him. In a team it is the group that counts and you shouldn’t put all the attention on a single person.”

Pato many start alongside compatriot and idol Ronaldo, but Alberto Gilardino is also in the frame while Kaka struggles with injury and Pippo Inzaghi is out.

We cant say really about Pato until the moments that he start to play but there was something serious about him , Berlusconi comments was Ancelotti Comments , Ancelotti chooses Pato for Milan but even himself didnt expect to see those qualities from the player in trainings , changes in his comments show this very well from the first time that he were in Canada until that time when he said he is better than Ronaldinho , if he spoke about Pato like that comes from those realities he saw in trainings , Comments from other players show this too , they really dont lie to us about his ability and those predictions was really normal , their reference was Pato works in trainings , all of them know his age and these conditions , they can't be really stupids all at once , many people said that in Serie A there is tough defenses , are they trying to say our defensive players even in trainings are less !!!! ????
kurtsimonw
I think everything that's been said about Pato is to give him confidence, rather than them actually believing he'll score 30 goals or whatever. If he gets anywhere near double figures in goals, it'll be amazing, but I don't think anybody actually beleives he's going to be as good as his hype.. I'm not even sure it's possible. tongue.gif
dst
That's what I was thinking. Do you guys/gals think that those comments are real? I mean, of course Carlo does not expect Pato to score 30 goals by the end of the season but do you think he could have been so impressed as to say that or is it only promotional sh!t?? I dunno... we've never done that before with any of our players so I can't really tell...
misha
He just need to give us the push like Ronaldo did last year. Anything extra will be a bonus.

I thought of something like that, too tongue.gif it cannot be all promoting, because they've been in this business for years, they can distinguish talented youngsters with great potential from ordinary ones. they must have seen something special in Pato, even though I think they should have kept it quiet at the same time... but they freaked out biggrin.gif

An injury in the 25th minute would be pretty funny. He only turned 18 some time ago, he won't be able to do much this year and even next year. I'm predicting he will turn out exactly like Higuaín did for Real his first year. There was a lot of expectations, and although he was very fresh and consistent, he didn't put La Liga on fire. Pato will have give us a hand, but it won't be anything dramatic. Ronaldo could be the one, but that depends on his fitness level.

Well the way i see it is, he'll be more creative/productive than Gila ever will be so it's all good even if he doesn't score he's a much better link up front for kaka and seedorf.

Seedorf fears for Pato
Friday 11 January, 2008

Milan talisman Clarence Seedorf is excited by new teammate Alexandre Pato’s potential, but worried about the hysteria surrounding his debut.

Pato arrives with a huge weight on his shoulders as Milan look to turn their Serie A fortunes around in the second half of the season and he may start his first game against Napoli.

The 18-year-old has played fewer than 50 professional games in Brazil, but has been tipped by President Silvio Berlusconi to hit 30 goals before June – a figure Pato’s former boss at Internacional has scoffed at.

“There is too much pressure being put on Pato,” Seedorf stated cautiously.

“Our responsibility as the old hands in this group is to protect him so that he can play calmly.

“I am hoping that he can fit in as well as possible because his talent isn’t in question.

“With him on the pitch I don’t know whether my sphere of influence will be the same, but I don’t think that my position is in jeopardy.

“I have been playing the trequartista role for a long time and I think that my performances have made it clear that I shouldn’t be played in any other position.

“But obviously all of is here at Milan are ready to do whatever the Coach asks us to.”

The Diavolo have the added pressure of trying to overcome their San Siro hoodoo against Napoli – the word champions are the only side in the top flight without home win this term.

“We want to break the curse and we also want to get the year off to as good a start as possible,” Seedorf insisted.

“We need to always be looking to the future and not just living on past triumphs. Our League position is misleading, but we know that we can’t afford to slip up.

“The most difficult thing is to play under this pressure and stay calm, but we need to do just that and take the three points to climb the table.”

As for Seedorf's comments and everyone else's that have been saying that we shouldn't put pressure on him, they shouldn't have hyped him up so much in the first place if they didn't want pressure to be put upon him. From Berlu to Galliani to Carlo they've all praised the kid like he's some sort of football god and now that the time has come for him to make his debut everyone is backtracking on their words because no one knows for sure what the kid will actually do once he gets on that pitch.

They should have left him alone in the first place and not made such outlandish comments like 'he'll score 30 goals by the end of the season'

Pato's movement on his goal is not one of an 18 year old. Especially, and I insist on this, especially not in Serie A and in a team like Milan full of super stars. You have to match everyone else class-wise, otherwise you will look like an outcast and will get in the way of others. His movement on the goal also reminded me VERY much of Sheva's goal against Barca some years ago. Pato is a long way from even being close to Sheva right now, but he plays a couple years ahead of himself and that can only be good.

So far, looks like this is going to be another great buy for Milan.

Forza Pato! Forza Milan!

Great debut, goal on debut just like Sheva.

I haven't yet seen the highlights, but his goal was very classy. Perfect first touch and a cool finish, Sheva esk. Very unlucky not to have been the scorer when seedorf finished off the two attempts. His positioning was perfect, great pass from ronaldo, picked his spot but a very good save. The second attempt was odd, could have taken it on his right and buried it into the far post. Opted to hit some weird shot on the left, guessing he tried to wrong foot the keeper. Had 7 shots for the game, 6 on target, astonishing debut. Still have to wait and see how he goes when the whole team is behind the ball.

50 pages on Pato and yet he played just a sinlge game for us king.gif

Shevchenko or Kaka are nowhere near after their first games for Milan.

However I do remeber Kaka on his first game for Milan - a rainy evening in Ancona, not the best pitch in the world. Never seen him playing before didn't took me long to relaize that this brazlilian youngster was a pure class - natural daiamond. And was confident he will rule our game in the years to come.

Guess I was right biggrin.gif

I've seen Pato in action - @ the World U20's and some videos of him. Was quite aware what I could expect from him and wasn't surprised from his performance last night.

Ant yet my fellow rossoneri I've no doubts that this boy could become one of the greatest players not only in the hisotry of AC Milan but of course in the history of world football.

He is only 18 king.gif king.gif king.gif

So the logic of football says that in the next 5 years he could only get better and better.

Normally a footballer is reaching his peak no earlier than at 23 -24 years of age.

As someone mentioned - he already has the skills of all round completed striker. what he needs to develope is his strength, muscules, and most importnalty to keep his mind cool on the pitch.

I'm really scared to think what he would look alike on the pitch 5 years from now. devilsmiley.gif

From where I'm standing now I could easily see him as the No 1 goalscorer for Milan of all times in the next 10 years. devil.gif
