Pato finds his feet again

Alexandre Pato is overjoyed at rediscovering his scoring touch for Milan and Brazil after injury problems.

The Duck bagged a brace in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Chievo, playing in a 4-3-1-2 formation.

“I came back after the injury, playing first with the Selecao and now Milan. I’m very happy to have played and scored, but above all happy at the victory,” he told Milan Channel.

“I need to do my work to help the team, as goals only come as a consequence of what the side does together.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was alongside Pato and provided both assists, while Ronaldinho supported them in a trequartista role.

“I am happy in my position, as with Brazil I also play as a centre-forward. The rapport with Ibra is good, but the Coach makes the decisions and whoever we are partnered with must work for the team.

“Zlatan gave me two great assists and I thank him for that. Now we have the Champions League against Real Madrid, where we’ve got to put in a classy performance.”

Left wing back. He can't be worse than the Da Silva brothers for Man U!

That Pato is a CF/striker is obvious for such a long time now. He's has the perfect instinct for scoring goals. 96.gif

I can't believe those who kept saying he was best as SS...

Imo he is an SS, he has all the characteristics for it, he's a great finisher as well, that does not mean he's a CF though. Sheva was a great finisher as well and an SS, same goes for Pato, he can play in support of a pure striker/CF

Let's just say what's important is that he plays in a two-men attack (4-3-1-2), and not in a three-men attack (4-3-3) playing out wide like he's done until now.

Obviously true. IMO it's important he plays next to a forward who can create like Zlatan, not next to a poacher like Huntelaar was (just to name an example).

Agreed. Pato-Ibra is probably the most perfect combo ever! And with Dinho acting as AM, we have a very deadly attack.

Speaking of which, Dinho played great last night. Fingers crossed he offers the same performance against Madrid. Menezes being in the stadium probably had something to do with it. wink.gif

Pato and Ibrahimovic are one awesome partnership. Hopefully Ronaldinho can be a good AMC between our 3 man midfield and our 2 forwards against a team like Real also.

I think the position forces him to work a lot more, unlike in the 4-3-3 where he could get away with being stationary out on that left wing.

Dinho himself has said he prefers being a midfielder rather than a forward/winger thing, but that after his Barca days everyone seems to think he performs best on the left wing.

Personally I never saw him as a forward, to me he's a midfielder always has been. no matter where he plays, he's got the characteristics for it. I've even seen him play as a CM for Brazil a couple of times in the past

Pato celebrates centenary against Juve

Milan striker Alexandre Pato will celebrate his 100th game for the club against Juventus and insists that it must be a special occasion.

The 21-year-old Brazil international has started the season in fine form, scoring four goals in five games in Serie A.

Interviewed in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pato said: “It will be a special game. It's an important achievement.

“I am happy to be a piece of Milan's history. And I am happy to be here because my life is perfect here.

“I want to win. But I have the certainty that I will manage it with this team.

“Frankly I am only interested in playing - centre-forward, second striker or out wide, it's no problem. I am prepared to do everything. I like all the roles in attack.”

Asked to reveal what wish he would make on blowing out his 100th Serie A candle against Juve, Pato replied: “It seems obvious to me - scoring and helping Milan.”

It was like yesterday when he made his debut against Napoli. how soon he reached 100 game mark (despite not playing many games due to injury).

Happy centenary, Duck. here's hoping for another 100 appearances as a rossonero!

So you're willing to have blind faith on a dud like Robinho but won't give a still developing young player time? A player who's been at Milan for a good few years now and has given this team a lot. Pato is our future, and giving up on him would be a huge mistake, all these injuries he's having could just as well disappear in a year when he's physically fully developed. Also a "bad season" and he's our Serie A top scorer so far, Pato on a good day is better then all of our attackers, and yes, that includes Ibra

You know what? I don't care. I've completely lost faith in him. Whether he stays or not is of minor concern to me.

Hello? Is Zed in there? Only until last Sunday, he had scored just two goals against Lecce in August and two goals against Chievo. In between, another injury and some mediocre performances. It's not like he now scored against Bari and Palermo and is suddenly having a fantastic season. If you're gonna defend the guy, do it by reclaiming his age and talent, not by mentioning his showings so far.
William405
About Pato,

He has been very unfortunate with the amount of injuries he's had but maybe it is because of the fast development he's had in the summer.I remember reporters saying he gained considerable amounts of kg of muscles.Perhaps he shouldn't have put that much pressure on himself and just focused on tactical stuff.

The Pato that I've seen this season,is definitely not the Pato I've followed 2-3 years ago.I guess he was just more influential to the team.He could beat his man easily with speed,he was deadly on counter attacks and didn't hold play during a counter attack. He was overall more explosive, his play now can be described as more cautious.I realize that these problems may have risen from the injuries though.

I will never lose faith in him though,he's the player with the best potential in Milan even after all what happened.

Dude, he's had plenty of injuries before this summer and the summer before. He's been having these problems for the past two years now, and I'm starting to get tired of it. You know, it's better he's having a crapy season; his loss means much less to us than what it would have meant if he was on fire.

@ X-Off

Who said he's having a fantastic season?!
Even a kid can see he's far from his best.

All I'm saying is that to say he isn't doing any good when he's our top scorer it's partly thanks to his goals that we're getting points, is just plain wrong.
Again, even a kid can understand that...

And I don't really feel the need to argue about stats which is all about numbers and facts.

Sorry for the DP, but X-Off, if you're so sick and tired of him, I suggest you to tell Galliani to sell him. bitching about it on MF won't solve anything for you...

Wow, your blindness and admiration for Pato is to admire, my friend. Again, if you're going to defend him, do it like Han and William did by claiming his age and talent. Defending the slightest Pato on the basis of what he's done this season is ridiculous. The guy's scored six goals, so what? It doesn't hinder his terrible performances. Even a mediocre player could score against Lecce, Chievo and Bari.

Well, you don't seem to understand the meaning of this sentence to begin with: Pato is far from his best. if you did, you wouldn't tell me this: It doesn't hinder his terrible performances.
X-Offender
But when I said "he wasn't doing any good", you replied "that's the dumbest thing I've read today". Why is it dumb? Since when, for a player of Pato's caliber, scoring 5-6 goals against low-table teams is considered good? What about the majority of the games, where he's been absolutely dreadful? From Pato I expect top class performances in every game. We are talking about a player that's supposed to win the Ballon d'Or in the future, about a player who's worth more than €40 million. If he's not delivering such expectations, on a constant basis, then he's simply *not* doing any good. Punto e basta.

Both Ambro and Pippo had few season packed with injuries and I remember everybody was talking how they are made of glass and so on. It has blown over.

I believe the same will happen to Pato. You jut can't sell one of the best players in the world for his age, it's not like we have many super talented 21 y.o kids laying around.

Yes, It's a problem now and I'm also bumped about this injury (Robinho's finishing is very worrying) but I wouldn't lose trust in him just yet.

OK pal, I don't know what I'm talking about. If you're happy with Pato's performances so far, then you simply have different expectations from what I had when we signed him three years ago. By now, I thought he'd be the next big thing, winning games single-handedly and being a protagonist against big sides. I thought he'd become better than Messi, I truly did, because the potential I saw in him was incredible, so sorry if what he's achieved so far doesn't impress me, at all.
Zed.D
I'm not happy, for ****'s sake. he's been mostly poor in those 10 games he's played. but unlike you, I DO give some value to those goals he's scored. unlike you, I think the Palermo goal was important, so was the Bari one and so on.

That's all Ive been saying in the past 2 hours.
