Pato is injury prone, but he wasn't until about 3 years ago, when they started messing with his body and bulking him up. And what an injury prone player certainly does not need is a bunch of quacks further making the situation worse.

At this point I don't care if we bring anyone in on the transfer market, if we end up with the free trio of Muntari, Monto and that Traore player from the French league

All that matters is that we fix these injury problems, and that has to start by looking at what the medical department are doing, analysing the training methods being utilised and seeing what the recovery plan is for these players.

Going into another season with the same system in place will be suicide. Especially if teams like Inter and Roma get their acts together
William405
My point was that it has nothing to do with his mentality.Maybe,it's has han stated, the medical team doing experiments on him...

When did I mention his mentality? A few months ago, yes, we had a discussion about it, but why did you have to bring it up now? I only said that Pato's injury proneness sucks, and that's about it.

Pato: 'I'm ready for Olympics!'
By Football Italia staff

Alexandre Pato insists he is “ready” to play for Brazil in the Olympics, as Milan hire a new American athletic trainer to deal with their many injuries.

Pato has missed much of the campaign due to a series of thigh problems that baffled medics, but has been declared ‘healed’ in time for the Olympics in London.

“I have been working hard for a month, but effectively since the match with Barcelona on April 3 I have only trained,” the striker told the Corriere dello Sport.

“In any case, I am ready, physically strong and at the disposal of Brazil. The Olympics are my objective after our elimination in the Copa America last summer.”

Pato was one of many who picked up numerous injuries over the course of the campaign at Milan, so the club is taking action.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Rossoneri are hiring American physiotherapist Bill Tillson to act as an athletic trainer.

It is a new role for the fitness staff, aimed at ensuring players are ready to make their comebacks after a period out due to injury.

Weird. I was a bit curious and found this guy's LinkedIn profile, says he's been the trainer since 1998...also found a link to a company that is one of our clients at work (orthopedic convention), that has a quote from him on their website listing him as "head athletic trainer"... seems like this wasn't a new hire to me. At best just a promotion. Hope it works out for us at any rate, we sure need it.

Alexandre Pato insists he has “re-balanced” his muscles to prevent further injuries thanks to the Brazil staff.
EDIT:"how ironic would it be if he has a good run in the tourney?"

The striker suffered a series of thigh strains while at Milan this season, but has recovered and even scored in the most recent Seleçao match against the USA.

“I had an imbalance of the posterior muscles and that caused problems for me,” he told Globoesporte.

“In the space of a month we re-balanced the muscles and I was able to get back on to the pitch.

“All those injuries were dramatic for me. I would recover, then two games later felt pain again. I am aware of my potential and will do everything I can to take part in the Olympics.”
milanbuf88
Can we just hire the entire Brazil medical staff? Seriously, I don't care how much it costs. Buy out the whole staff.
Zed.D
OK, I know it's his body and muscles and all that, but right now I don't care what he says. all I care about is to see whether he says injury free until August.
X-Offender
I thought his muscles were re-balanced in the US, where he was accompanied by the Milan staff. huh.gif
Zed.D
He got injured after that so whoever did it needs to do their homework again. and correct me if I'm wrong but Pato was barely a week or two in the US. he says a month here. I think they did it again after he recovered at the end of the season.
William405
Yeah, let's just see, this tourney can be a blessing for him.

Just noticed that Pato will be wearing the 9 shirt this season. Why the change?? I mean, I understand how someone changes to a "lower" and more "typical striker" number from say 33 or 22 - but he had the 7 worn by Shevchenko, that meant something. I'll always consider Pato as a natural Milan 7.
Zed.D
I think Pato is more a #9 than a #7, but he got 7 from the beginning. maybe they're all superstitious and think of this as a new birth for him or something.
dst
No. 7 has been my favorite number in football, it's been worn by some... special cases... Pato can be special, too bad he gave it up.
acid911
I guess, I'm the only one who's happy he took '9', then?! biggrin.gif laugh.gif Ronaldo to Pato. Sheva was and is more than what Pato can be, he used to create as well as score, a '7' in the best of molds, like Baggio before him. Pato taking the number '9' means that he's ready to be the team's premier striker - a true goalscorer, first and foremost.

And by golly do we need 20, 30 goals from the kid, or what?! Besides, who knows, who arrives in the next couple of weeks to take the '7' shirt, we really don't know what's going down behind the curtains.

By the way, he's what think of the numbers. smile.gif And well, they're generally classically believed to be so:

1 - Goalkeeper, the solitary figure between the posts.
2 - Right back, more often than not.
3 - Central defender, most often the best one in a team.
4 - Central defender, second half of the CB duo.
5 - Holding midfielder, positioned in front of the defense.
6 - Left back, very usually.
7 - Supporting striker, one who can track back, dribble, and shoot.
8 - Dog, the midfield general, one who gathers the ball from opponents as well as lost balls.
9 - Striker, the main forward of the team, one that possess both skill and shot.
10 - Trequartista, an attacking mid, usually the most creative midfielder.
11 - Poacher, a player ahead of the main striker, with eye for positioning to tap in the goals.

So by that token the trequartista and supporting striker are part of the attack, but the former is often a midfielder and the later, a forward. happy.gif But like all things in life, there have been exceptions, different formations and tactics, wingers, and fullbacks, etc. Hence you get unique guys like Pele and Neymar (number 11s), and wingers like Messi and CRON slotting in impressive number of goals.

And well '12' is the reserver keeper, and '23' (at least in the NT) is the dirty guy, a mid who isn't afraid of layind down the pain and hurt on other players. And then the higher numbers, of course.

A LB generally takes the 3 IIRC
acid911
Aye, like I said, traditionally most LBs take 3, but like I said numbers are messed up now a days. mellow.gif I quite liked the fact that in the Italian NT they used to give their most good looking player the number '10' shirt, instead of their most talented ones. This little practice has pretty much died down too, after Totti and company.

Things like these made following football, purely as a game, fun. Back in the days. Now? Not so much. It's free for all now. The only numbers that matter are - wait for it - financial ones: $$$, £££, and €€€.
kurtsimonw
I always thought it was more like this, traditionally.

1

2 - 5 - 6 - 3

7 - 4 - 8 - 11

10

9

4/6 sometimes interchangable.
acid911
Ah, that depends if both the '7' and '11' are wingers, so to speak. smile.gif But there are like a hundred different formations and styles team can play. Do agree about the numbers '9' and '10', they're the closest to the opposing goal. And if Pato is willing to become our true number '9' and score goals, few would be happier than me.

My thoughts exactly. cool.gif You pretty much read my mind. Rossi and Kaka (on loan) and call it a day. Put the faith on attack and hope the defense holds up. Because El Sha, Cassano, Boateng, Pato and those two guys above will still make up a pretty good forward line. My only concern is the injury situation.

Save for El Shaarawy, pretty much all the players mentioned above are - very - injury prone.

To be honest, I'd take Sahin over Kaká on the spot! It would be an amazing future investment. The guy is great, I have no idea why they overlook him at Madrid.

Yeah, if Sahin comes, Kaká's arrival won't be that necessary. We need that one quality man in midfield, besides Montolivo, and Sahin fills the shoes perfectly. Really good at defending, amazing vision and skills, impressive stamina, and he's very young too. He can be our new Pirlo no problem.

Kaká = great short term, bad long term
Sahin = great short term, great long term

Milan = sucky short term, because of many decisions that were bad for the long term

Let's not make the same mistakes again, and sign players that help us not only for the short term, but also the long term. Players like Sahin and Strootman will offer a lot now and later to Milan. Signings you can sell with profit later.

Agreed. But I think what Fillipo is trying to say is that we lack a leader after all the departures this summer, and he's right about that. Kaká can be that leader. However, I think if a team is good enough, it can create its own leaders. Personally I believe that with the purchases of Zapata, Sahin and hopefully a last minute leftback signing, we'd be good to go for the scudetto and a respectable run in the Champions League.

What decent leftback do you see out there that is in our price range? Criscito? I think I'd prefer Rossi over a LB because this will be the best opportunity to get him cheap and I don't see many viable LBs.

I think for this season we should go for Simon Poulsen, 27-year-old ex-Alkmaar, who had a rather decent Euro with Denmark. He's currently a free agent.

This. I'm unsure however if we can develop a leader who'd bring back some of Milan's old class. Boateng can present a leader perhaps, but not the one we need or I'd like to see. Same goes for Mexes, Abbiati or most of the other guys.

On a sidenote, I'm stunned how everyone is convinced Sahin is nothing but the golden boy waiting to shine with us. Sure, he was pretty good at Dortmund...for one season. Sure he has potential. But does youth/age necessarily mean he'll do good here? Look at Flamini, he had a good Arsenal stay, was pretty young when we signed him...and turned to be a rather bad disappointment.

Now I'm not saying Sahin is bad or that I can foresee the future - he's the best of all possible options for now - but I only disagree with the "young = good" labeling.

I only added that to the end of my sentence, as a "bonus" if you like. I never said that young equals good.

I tend to agree with Filippo, but only to an extent, yes we need a leader on the field, Ambro is our only leader and I can't see him playing regularly this season.

That being said, I think Kaka would be a huge financial mistake in the long run. And after the big f*** ups that have already been made in that department, we really cannot afford any more

The thing is at under 6 million a season, he represents a good bargain. The only trouble is the transfer fee involved.

For around 6m it would negate the cashing in on Silva process because that's what he was on.

Kaka imo would be another slap in the face to the fans as for that money we could have kept Silva and only sold Zlatan. It doesn't make any financial sense to get him

If we get Rossi and Sahin it would mean we have 2 quality young players for around 2m each (wages). Most likely that combined 4m wouldn't even be able to cover Kaka. So it just does not make any sense when we have other options to go for.

At this point keeping the wage bill at it's minimum is imperative. Our only high earners will be Mexes, Robinho and Pato to an extent. All on 4m IIRC

God you speak like one of them militant liberal feminist types (Don't ask me to explain, long story)!!! Silva was not sold coz of his wages. Silva was sold coz of his transfer fee. It was Zlatan who was sold for his wages.

Hence why we're not finalising Kaka. His wages at 5.5 million were agreed a long time ago. But Madrid want a transfer fee, which we're not willing to pay at the moment, coz it negates the whole benefit of the Silva transfer as you pointed out.

Sahin is on I think 3 million at Madrid. While Rossi is at 2.5 million and I remember he wanted Juve to double his wages, when they came looking a year or two ago.

Yes, the fact that they need playing time might mean it's negotiable, but somehow I doubt it. It would just mean we are talking a brand new contract at the end of the season with a massive escalated wage. Would much rather land these two on a long term contract at 3.5 million a piece.

I don't know who these liberal feminists you speak of are, but I specifically remember Silvio raving about how selling BOTH Zlatan and Silva will mean that we'll save 100s of millions in the next few years. If we were selling Silva just for the transfer fee than we would have sold him when PSG offered us 50m+ for him. We sold both because of the long term effect of their wages, Getting Kaka with 5.5M per season would be stupid, as we cannot afford to keep someone on that type of wage.

We don't know what they're on, Rossi has spent a year out and still has 4 months to go before he's recovered, he won't be expecting 4m per season because he simply cannot demand that of any club when it's already a gaurantee that he will miss out half the season. Getting him for the same wage bracket would still be far more feasible than just Kaka on 5.5m, add to that, he's a huge Milan fan and one would think that he's desperate to get our of Villareal seeing and they're playing in the Spanish Segunda.

And even if we were to offer Sahin 3m and Rossi 2.5m that would mean that those 2 players would cost us the same as Kaka would, and they wouldn't just be quick fixes but building blocks for the future of this team
Jack Sparrow

Certainly doesn't look like Zlatan hates Pato.
