Coni President Gianni Petrucci Criticises Serie A Clubs For ‘Spiralling Costs’

As Serie A prepares for its first breakaway season this coming term, Coni president Gianni Petrucci recently spoke on the current state of the Italian top flight which has come under fire following Italy’s embarrassment during the World Cup.

“The conflict between the Italian FA and Serie A is a physiological one,” Petrucci declared to CorrieredellaSera.

“Both parties have different interests. The league is a football industry, whereas the federation must focus all things associated with Italy’s ‘Calcio’.

“Naturally after such a disappointing World Cup campaign, the conflict between the two has been exacerbated.

“With all due respect for the club presidents, I don’t understand why they continue to talk about an increase in loans.

“It should be a priority to reduce costs, and the examples set by the likes of [Massimo] Moratti and [Silvio] Berlusconi would be well followed.
