Pompey 0-1 United. Fletcher. So far he has scored both of Uniteds goals this season, where would they be without him! biggrin.gif

Fletcher? It was that Pompy defender who put the ball in the net, all Fletcher did was fall over.

C.Ronaldo is injured?

Yep. He had ankle (was it ankle? I think?) surgery right after the Euros.

It's been credited to Fletcher. He got the touch that pull the ball in, the only debate is whether it was over the line or not when the defender tried to clear it. In any case I think it should be given to him, since it's not like it was the defenders fault it went in, it was on the line and going towards the goal anyway.

Talking of Newcastle..

League Cup 2nd round tonight, Newcastle lead 2-0 in Coventry with goals from N'Zogbia and Milner. Morrison pulled one back for Coventry, then they equalised in the last minute. laugh.gif Newcastle can't even beat Championship teams. biggrin.gif ET it is.

You won 3-2 in the end.

League Cup, we aren't in it yet. The good teams don't enter until the 3rd round. wink.gif Newcastle should try and win it, it's a respectable cup again, unlike in 2001 or so, since all the big clubs try and win it. Better than winning nothing.

He's okay. But players like this have been Newcastles problem for so long. He joins the club, egts injured for two years, yet the second he comes out of injury they label him the best striker in the World, give him the captaincy and everything.. it's quite sad.

He recovered and had a decent pre-season, only to pick up an injury in the warm-up to yesterdays game. It is believed he will be out for 6 months. That's a real shame for him. sad.gif

Funny how they lose most of their depth once he is missing. He's like the key player to United, like Gerrard is to Liverpool.

Good move for SWPs career, he was on the verge of getting into the England team before he went to Chelsea. Hopefully he can return back to his best.

United.. they have alot of players missing at the moment. Defensively they're great, but they will struggle to score. No Ronaldo + no CF. Once Ronaldo gets back and Berbatov joins.. 18th League title and 4th European Cup this season, in my opinion.

Yeah was always obvious though. Nani doesn't come close to Ronaldo even though he likes to think he does. There's no flair in their midfield without Cristiano.

Milner Completes Move

England Under-21 international James Milner today became Villa's eighth summer signing as he completed his switch from Barclays Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Milner, who spent the 2005-06 season on loan at Villa, scoring three goals in 33 League and cup appearances, has returned signing a four year deal.

The 22-year-old completed a medical at Bodymoor Heath this morning.

ohmy.gif Since when has that been any criteria? My Newcastle affection is relatively new, compared to Milan. Keegan era v1...they played some great football, footballing cavaliers....kinda like a 11 man team of Don Quixote.

They just had sh!tty management since then. But I think things are working out now. They've got a management rooted in ground reality, with a freethinking dreamer for a coach. The problem was till now, it was the other way round.

I think if Newcastle play their cards right, they can have a renaissance, like Valencia did in the La Liga.

It's just that Milner left, what I thought was a work-in-progress to another work-in-progress. There were a few faults though. Granted he's not paid a lot, considering what b-tards like Barton earn, but he was doing well. KK also played him in his preferred central position, where he was doing really well.

But no, getting pissed off was a knee jerk reaction.

The right wing is not the issue. Milner can't cross anyway. He's just got a great work rate for a winger.

What Newcastle need is a Class A - Class B middling striker, a good left back, and a creative mid. They should do good enough to finish in the top 12 then.

You're such a Newcastle fan! biggrin.gif

Last week they were all "Milner is so good, he should be captain" and all that, now he's not very good? rolleyes.gif I think you'll find he lead the team in assists last season. tongue.gif

I don't think it is all doom and gloom for Newcastle though. They have possibly the most under-rated keeper in the League, if not the World! (Yes, I truly mean that, Shay Given is awesome). Their defense is probably the best it's been for a while. Even without Milner, they still have some decent players in there. Danny Guthrie is alright a good player and will get better, Nicky Butt is a class DM, Jonas looks like a nice bright signing and N'Zogbia is a good young players. Strikers you have a welath of.. if they can stay fit. Owen can be World class, Viduka is a good strong, typical CF, Ameobi.. I don't rate, but he's okay.

I think you'll finish 11th, maybe 10th. But I do think Sunderland are now the best club in the North East, they've had an incredible summer..

QUOTE

James Milner today completed his switch from Barclays Premier League rivals Newcastle United and reflected: "This club has gone from strength to strength since I was last here."

The England Under-21 skipper spent the 2005-06 season on loan at Villa and almost joined on a permanent basis two years ago. Now he is back at Villa Park and looking forward to life under Martin O'Neill.

The 22-year-old told www.avfc.co.uk: "A lot has happened at this club since I was last here and I'm obviously delighted to be back. I was so close a couple of years ago but now I'm back.

"We've got a new training ground and a lot of new faces - on the staff and in the playing squad.

"This is a club on the way up and things have got better and better every season since I was last here. It's an exciting time to be here. This is a great place to be now. There's lots of young English talent.

"The top-four are the top-four and Aston Villa are getting better and better. We should be challenging now and as we look to improve we will be challenging.

"We're in the UEFA Cup this season and hopefully we'll do well in that. The next step then is obviously the Champions League. That's what we're working towards."

Milner came within minutes of joining Villa in Martin O'Neill's first summer at the club before being recalled by then Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder.

He added: "Martin O'Neill was a massive pull and I was ready to sign for him two years ago. He's got a great record and he's a fantastic manager. Look at the job he's done wherever he's been.

"Look at the squad he's built here. There are players in the England squad and players pushing to be involved. A lot of that's down to the manager.

"I've played 180 Premier League games and been involved in Europe as well. I'm lucky enough that I started when I was 16 so I've got a lot of football under my belt.

"I'm obviously a lot more experienced than when I was last here but I'm still young and still learning. This is a superb place to be with the players, the manager and the coaching staff we have here.

"With the set-up that we have here now, if I can't become a better player with Aston Villa, I'm not going to develop anywhere."

I think you may treat this cup with a bit more respect this year. Usually your reserves play, but you barely have any reserves to speak of anymore. Plus a few of the gooners are starting to realise they've won nothing for nearly 4 years and are becoming impatient with Mr. Wenger.

It was a nice assist, van Persie's pass to Adebayor would have been called a nice assist too.. had Adebayor finished it!

I could have made that pass, that was simple. Adebayor is not a good striker, misses too much and makes a mess of it. He should have scored today, no question.
kurtsimonw
3-0, Denilson. Decent finish, but he's been very poor today. Eboue, Denilson and Adebayor need replacing if Arsenal want to realistically win the league.
