United vs Liverpool to start in 10 minutes..

QUOTE
United Line-up

van der Sar

O'Shea - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra

Ronaldo - Carrick - Anderson - Park

Rooney - Tevez

Subs: Foster, Evans, Fletcher, Giggs, Scholes, Nani, Berbatov

Liverpool Line-up

Reina

Arbeloa - Carragher - Skrtel - Aurelio

Mascherano - Lucas

Kuyt - Gerrard - Riera

Torres

Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Insua, Babel, El Zhar, N'gog

Anderson/Park/Tevez are all pretty average, but should be more than enough for a United win. I still don't understand how Liverpool are 2nd when I see their team. Very average looking defense, decent midfield and a one-season wonder striker who barely ever plays.. then their bench is embarassing.

Prediction: United 3-0 Liverpool
kurtsimonw
Ronaldo (pen), 1-0 Was a penalty, Reina took Park down.

Liverpool have about an hour to save their season, anything but a win and the title stays at Old Trafford.

EDIT: 1-1. Torres. Two mistakes from Vidic.. rolleyes.gif

i think that was a penelty on torres

2-1 to LP

If Anderson and Tevez can play for United, so can I. Get Scholes and Berbatov on, these 2 are an embarassment to United.

Man, what exactly are you talking about?! blink.gif Anderson is a great talent (maybe not a great footballer yet) and Tevez, as much as by saying this I will contradict myself because I didn't really rate him before, is a really good striker. they may not be better than Scholes/Berba but still...

Tevez hasn't got any footballing talent, in my opinion, or very little, he's just a hard worker. A rich mans Milan Baros. Anderson.. I've not seen anything. He offers nothing going forward, he's not good defensively, not good in the air, doesn't win the ball back, hasn't got that killer pass.. I see nothing in him. He's the opposite of Nani, he works hard but doesn't have much going for him, while Nani has the talent but is too lazy. Anderson may come good, but he's been a waste of time at United thus far, in my opinion.

Vidic sent off for fouling Gerrard, last man. Aurelio smashes in the free-kick, 3-1. Bad scre for Villa.. it's the start of what feels like an awful, awful weekend for us, again.

Yep!

4-1 Liverpool, Dossena!

I think the MotM award has to be shared. Evra, Vidic and van der Sar.. they'll go down in Liverpool history for this performance.

Arsenal 1-0, OG.

Everton 0-0.

It looks like 6th place now for us, after such a good season. Arsenal, at the moment, are above us. Everton are a few points behind us, but we have to play Spurs tomorrow with trips to Anfield and Old Trafford in the next 2 weeks. Oh well, I suppose with the way of the new Champions League qualifying format we'd get eliminated anyway, that's about the most positive thing I can think of. sad.gif

EDIT: Everton lead 1-0. I just want to cry. It's amazing how quickly a season can turn to ****.

After watching Manchester-Liverpool I'm totally convinced Vidic is needed here. He really could be our word class signing this summer. But wait, we shouldn't judge people after just one match.

Not sure what happened to him today. In my opinion he was set to win the PFA Player of the year award as I can't think of anyone better this season, but this performance has dented his chances, now it's quite unpredictable as to who it will be. A nice change!
kurtsimonw
2-0 Arsenal, Arshavin with the goal I think.

Not EPL related, but Villa youth product Barry Bannan came on at HT for his first ever league appearance on loan at Derby and scored, well done him!
kurtsimonw
Everton 3-1.

Arsenal 4-0.

Football makes me want to cry sometimes.

He's actually been playing well in the last few games I've seen! ohmy.gif

Anyways, Locke, it looks like 4th place is as good as yours. Trips to Anfield and Old Trafford will be too much for us, particularly with Spurs, Everton and West Ham games all coming up in the next 5.

I honestly don't care about qualifying for the Champions League as with the way the qualifying is structured at the moment, we'd get knocked out by a team like Villarreal anyways. The reason I want 4th is to keep Gareth Barry! The guy is irreplacable.. unless Gerrard or Lampard suddenly become Villa fans! dry.gif

Yeah. To be honest, if anything, your remaining games are harder than ours. But you had the same thing a few years ago with Spurs when they were running you close for 4th, so the experience from that will help you out. I also think you have a better chance of getting points at Anfield/Old Trafford, you know how to win at these places, while we haven't won at Anfield since 2001 and Old Trafford since.. well, before I was born.

I think we threw it away with those 2 drpped points against Stoke! dry.gif

No shame in finishing 5th/6th I suppose. Something "big clubs" like Spurs, Newcastle and Citeh won't be doing. biggrin.gif

It's good that Liverpool won because they'll lose the title anyway and I was getting bored and annoyed at they hype around United.

Watched the Arshenal game... they played football for a change! I had my doubts but Arshavin has been a great transfer, he has been their best player in all the league matches he's played. With Walcott on the other flank, they actually looked like a team that's fighting for 4th place...

Sweet move and finish by Arshavin for the second goal.

I didn't see the games but I'll assume it's one of 2 things:

1) Arshavin had been subbed off.
2) There's a rule at Arsenal that if somebody is fouled to win a penalty, they don't take it. So was Arshavin the one to be fouuled?

Ah, I see the reason Arshavin didn't take the penalty, he wasn't on a hat-trick, he'd only scored 1!

Eboue taking the penalty was tactical. The team and Wenger knew he was getting some stick from fans, so they agreed it was best for him to take it to get the supporters back on his side.

Kurt, Villa is 2-0 down!! I think they have "acorns" on their shirts because they must be driving the fans nuts in this half of the season.

Note to Gomes: Yellow is NOT your color. It makes you look like an oversized banana. (Damn, he flubs a cross and Villa can't take advantage, instead shooting right into a Spurs defender.)

FT Villa 1-2 Spurs.

Write this off as a sore loser post, but the linesman royally fucked us over. 45 seconds gone and Ashley Young was - and this is not an exaggeration - 20 yards onside and he puts his flag up! 45 seconds later, Gabby goes through 3 or 4 yards onside.. and he puts his flag up again! Ridiculous decision.

Good first half from Villa, we certainly deserved a lead. Gabby was taken off for his 298398495th poor performance in a row, Carew yet again comes off the bench to score!

Race for 4th is over, a 2nd successive over-acheiving season for us. Maybe in 2 or 3 years we'll challenge for top 4, but this is too early.

QUOTE (ESPN Soccernet)
Gazza: Heart stopped three times after suicide bid

Former England football star Paul Gascoigne revealed his heart stopped three times while in rehab.

Gascoigne told Sky News presenter Kay Burley that last year's sudden rumours that he had died were closer to the truth than the public realised.

He said: "My heart failed on us a few times,'' adding that his father John had collapsed with worry at his illness.

Gascoigne, a brilliant footballer whose career was marred by alcohol and violence towards his ex-wife Sheryl, has endured a love-hate relationship with the British public.

Addressing his attack on Sheryl, he said: "If you are sitting in a restaurant and somebody calls your mum a whore, which she did, and for no reason, I don't like that - and yes, I got hold of her arms and I did put my head against her head, I didn't headbutt her but I threw her to the floor, and I was disgusted with myself for what I did.

"I went to therapy; I sat with 15-20 women and told them exactly what I did. I got punched by a few women for doing what I did, but I took the punches and I accepted it. It is the one thing I ever did in my life, and I get hammered for it.''

In a startlingly frank admission he says he feels "used'' by his son Regan.

He said: "I drive down to be with my son and he takes us to the school and shows (his friends), 'This is my dad'. I went to assembly and signed everything for the kids, and then it's proved to everyone that I am his dad - then he goes back home and that leaves me, I don't know, I feel like I am being used by my own son here.''

The interview, in the company of his father, sister Lindsay and two young nephews, shows the ex-Newcastle and Tottenham player having a kickabout on the beach.

He proudly declares: "No-one is ever going to be as good as I was.''

The player is visibly moved when both the youngsters say he is their favourite ever player.

He said: "The kids have been scared, they have been scared of us, you know, coming round the house and that, the way I was and in the state I was in, but coming to the beach and playing football is brilliant.''

Gascoigne has had a well-publicised battle with alcohol, and admits that only four months ago he was drinking 30 cans of Special Brew (strong lager) per day.

In reference to his religious beliefs, he says: "I just thank Him for today you know, if I don't drink I just say thanks, thanks for not letting me have a drink today.''

But the sportsman says he can be around alcohol without giving in to temptation.

"I can be around it now because all I have got to do is remember my last 'drunk'. If I remember my last drunk, which I can't - well I sort of can, getting fed with a spoon because I had the shakes that bad.''

He also describes his suicide attempt.

"In the bath, yes, it's the easy way out they say, you know, take a few sleeping tablets, nice little warm bath and have a few drinks and just drop. I had just had enough, I had had enough of everything, you know.''

Gascoigne continues: "I rang my sister just to say, I am going to run a bath. I think she might have had a clue, I don't know if it was a plea for help.

"And I just said, look, I am in the bath and I will always love you, or something like that, and put the phone down. I laid in the bath and just felt myself dropping off and I remember just getting ready, like dozing off, and then the police burst in. About six police dragged us out of the bath.''

It's a shame really.. he's just the modern day George Best. He won't last past 60 I don't think, such a great footballer too. sad.gif

Villa will join Real Madrid and Juventus in taking part in prestigious pre-season tournament - the Peace Cup.

Other entrants announced so far - as well as the Spanish and Italian giants - include Porto, Lyon, Seville and Liga de Quito. Another five top clubs will soon be added to the tremendous list.

The exciting event takes place between July 24 and August 2 in AndalucĂa, Spain. The venues are in Huelva, Seville, Jerez, Malaga and Madrid.

The tournament will start with four groups of three teams and the winners from each group will move to the semi-finals before a showpiece final.

The group draw takes place at the end of April.

Martin O'Neill said: "We are delighted to be involved in such a prestigious tournament. There are some really big European clubs involved and it will be a good part of our pre-season preparations."

In previous years, the tournament has been held in Korea and English teams such as Tottenham Hotspur, Bolton Wanderers and Reading have taken part.

The tournament is organized by the Peace Dream Foundation - whose goal is to promote world peace.

For more information on the tournament, stay tuned to www.avfc.co.uk.

Villa and Juventus.. Mellberg! I really hope we get to play against them! biggrin.gif
