6-0 it finished. Good win for Arsenal.

Villa play QPR in the Cup tomorrow. We've already beat the richest team in the World this season, now it's time to check off #2 in the list.. then for Chelsea. biggrin.gif

FT Villa 0-1 QPR. Second year in a row we've been knocked out in the early rounds by a 2nd rate side, not good enough, not even close. No trophy again this season, not good enough.

We have more chance of winning that than anything else. But I don't think we'll even care about it if we're still going well in the league. I'd like to win the UEFA Cup though, it's the only proper trophy we haven't won!

FT Pompey 0-4 Chelsea. Lampard (2), Malouda & Kalou. Karma must exist, Pompey are certainly getting the stuffings they deserve.

Nobody really cares about Carling Cup.

Between about 1999 and 2003 it was crap. But ever since the emergance if the 'big 4' when Roman took over Chelsea, there wasn't really enough trophies to go around, that's why the big 4 - except maybe Arsenal - take the cup very seriously. The only final in recent memory I can remember that didn't involve a top team was Bolton-Boro, and that's because Boro knocked out Arsenal and United, Villa knocked out Chelsea, so this is a good cup now. Obviously when teams go out they use the excuse that they don't care. But if it's so crap and easy to win, why can't they win it.

We're 4th at the moment. You know when every team in the league respects you as a good side when Liverpool turn up to Villa Park and stick 10 men behind the ball in hope for a draw, I don't think there's any chance we'll finish top 4 really though, just can't see us keeping this form up.

One thing we have in our favour is one of the best strike partnerships in World football. Yes, that's right.. WORLD football. biggrin.gif This season we've played 5 games, Gabby/Carew have 7 goals, in the last 12 league games, they have 15 goals between them, if they can keep it up we may be taken seriously. I'm still amazed that Gabby is top scorer in the league, he's been very poor this season. huh.gif

A year or so ago there was an agent who got into big trouble for illegal transfers, I think it was around 57% of those legal transfer that involved Portsmouth, there were then investigations last week into their ownership. They're not a very nice club.

As for Newcastle-Spurs, how bad are Newcastle? They lost at home to bottom of the league, that really isn't good. It's the first time since Gareth Bale has moved to Spurs (Some 16 months ago) that he has been on the winning side! ohmy.gif

Newcastle are up really bad now. But 2-1 is not horrible against Tottenham you know. I think considering the differing standards of the manager. And obviously 66 million worth of transfers and no 'internal' issues, Spurs should have done better. biggrin.gif If anything it's Spurs who are underperforming.

The strike is on, because of MA's trying to nail a profit on the club. Also because he is really dragging his feet over the new manager issue. We hear he's talking to Terry Venables. The Nigerian takeover seems most likely now, since they're the only group making any noise. I hate consortiums. One member/family/corporation to take over, would mean stability.

Can somebody explain to me how Routledge has got that high off the ground with seemingly no effort. He's about 12 foot in the air! blink.gif

I knew it. All of the Aston Villa players are on performance enhancing drugs.

By the way, Agbonlahor is in the news for getting 3 women pregnant, all at the same time. Great going... tongue.gif

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Jagielka, Lescott, Arteta, Neville, Fellaini, Osman, Cahill, Yakubu.
Subs: Nash, Baines, Castillo, Saha, Vaughan, Nuno Valente, Rodwell.

Victim FC: Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Skrtel, Dossena, Kuyt, Alonso, Gerrard, Riera, Torres, Keane.
Subs: Cavalieri, Hyypia, Agger, Aurelio, Pennant, Babel, Leiva Lucas.

Referee: Mike Riley (Yorkshire).

After being rejected by just about every manager available, Newcastle have bought in 60 old, former Wimbledon manager, Joe Kinnear. Newcastle fans wanted a World class manager who is also a Newcastle legend, such a manager didn't exist. They'll find it very difficult to get somebody to take charge of that job permanently.

Arsenal have arguably had the easiest fixture list so far this season. West Brom, Fulham, Newcastle, Blackburn, Bolton and Hull. That's 2 promoted teams, 2 teams who were within 3 points of relegation last season, a team in an absoloute mess at the moment, and Blackburn. I don't think you'll find a team who has had an easier schedule, yet they've still lost 2 out of 6.

I don't think we'll be anywhere near the top (in terms of points) by the end of the season, but we have the 2nd best manager in the league and a young English squad with a superb chairman. This is the first time in about a decade where I can actually be excited about what Villa can acheive!

Next up is away to Chelsea in the league. They haven't beaten us since September 2005, they don't seem to like playing us! biggrin.gif

Arsenal reserves 1-4 Villa reserves. First time I've seen our reserves this season and they were up against an Arsenal side which featured 9 of the 11 players that beat Sheffield United 6-0 in the Cup. Arsenals reserve coach was fuming, really ripping into his player. Apparently they're all a bunch of over-confident, arrogant players who think they've won every game before they step onto the field and will never get near the Arsenal first team with this kind of attitude. laugh.gif

Just the way I like answers like these: short and simple! cool.gif Seriously, Aston Villa are really starting to surprise me since the start of this season. I still consider Arsenal, Chelsea and United the top 3 clubs of the EPL, but it'll be really something if Villa can somehow at least finish 4th this year. We have one of the top 2/3 academies and youth facilities in the country, always have. Maybe because we get all of our players from when they're in their early teens and train them up the way we want, while most other top clubs just steal from other clubs and these players have been trained in a different way.

We won't finish 4th. We lose games that we shouldn't, we struggle to break down some teams and we conceed too many late goals. But nothing will surprise me with MON in charge to be honest, he's under-rated because he hasn't had any high-profiled jobs. But I think even the likes of SAF and Wenger would struggle to do what he's done. Just 27 months ago we'd finished 16th and just missed out on relegation, now we're one of the top 6 teams in the league. He is a genius.

And to relate to what Zdrs graph, we're doing it the proper way, 7 English starters with a further 5 English players on the bench. So it can be done! It's a shame that so many foreigners are coming over here.. they're obviously money greedy people. biggrin.gif

Just something about CR out of the blue since I don't know when the next argument will appear. People say he would not score as many goals as he scored in the EPL if he played in Italy or Spain. Well I doubt that Kaka or Messi (the other two contenders...) would score as many as he did if the played in England too! wink.gif

And something more: I hate it how people only talk about how many goals one has scored. Was CR better last season that he was the season before? I don't think so. His contribution in goals was of course higher but football is not goals, football is football and CR does many thing other than score goals!

Bit test for my lot tomorrow. We haven't lost to Chelsea since October 2005 and the last 5 games have seen 4 draws and a Villa win. We were unlucky not to win their last season, but their home record is incredible. Can't see us avoiding defeat yet again, 2-0 Chelsea I reckon. Either way, it's been an incredible start to the season for us!

FT Blackbur 0-2 United.
-Brown and Rooney. So much for top sides not having any English player.
kurtsimonw
FT Chelsea 2-0 Villa. Joe Cole and Anelka. I really thought we could take something from this game, but our first half performance was by far the worst this season and they just ripped us apart, 2nd half we were better but you can't afford to go 2 goals down and expect to come away with something. Chelsea have the best squad in World football, and Ashley Cole on the basis of this season is easily the best LB in the World, incredible yet again.
acid911
There's a reason they're called Chelsea. mellow.gif Oh well, hopefully the least Villa takes from this is some good, healthy experience. Haven't seen it, but I wasn't too thrilled with this match - had a feeling Villa are in for a little beating.

As long as they finish 4th, whatever it takes, I'll be backing Villa up till the end! biggrin.gif It'll be fun not seeing Liver's Pool in the Champions League next year. Hamma, hamma, it will be fun!
