What's the betting that when Wenger was asked about that foul after the game, that he said "I didn't see it". laugh.gif

Of course. Cynical french.
If it was the other way around he'd say something like "should be banned for life".

"That was just le ball. He didn't even touché Sneijder."

Nasty injury for Sneijder. Ow. sad.gif (Still don't like the player though. He's quite good but I mentally put him in the [insert Porty's favorite word] category along with C Ronaldo, Vieira, etc.) Not as bad on the face of it as Eduardo's injury -- though the last I heard about him is that he's started to run again, which is great news.

Don't you realise Wenger is trying to shield Diaby from the press? He lets the blame fall on him instead, and I'm sure he'll have a few words with Diaby about the incident. Besides it's still uncertain how serious the injury really is.
Hell, when that happened to Eduardo that **** who was managing Birmingham just went on with "Martin Taylor is such a nice chap, he really is, he'd never do it on purpose, it's unfortunate this happens, but etc."

Oh, and:

But since Eduardo according to you isn't world-class, then you don't care, right?

Until a crazy guy like Matrix breaks Diaby leg, he won't learn. The number of tackles he puts in that are just insane.

Right.

Eduardo and Sneijder are lucky, they don't really have a right to complain about their injuries. What the hell is a 6/7 month injury in a 15 years career.. especially when they're both still very young.

But when you're 33, one swing of the leg can mean that an injury will retire you, and mean that you can't walk again for 5 years, they're lucky the same didn't happen to them. Poor Luc Nilis. sad.gif

You don't need to leave football to get a testimonial, you are allowed to have one after you've played 10 years of football for one team. The reason it's been postponed is the way he's handled himself over his proposed transfer to Liverpool. A testimonial is mean to be a tribute to your loyalty.. would seem a bit silly that we're celebrating his loyalty when he's leaving. tongue.gif

He'll be going to Liverpool, no idea when, but sometime in this transfer window. Maybe after we play them on August 31st.

In that case, I don't see why a player like Parejo would like to go play with QPR (no offence to the club or the Championships) but in my opinion a player develops his capabilities best when he's playing against and with the best. So if he had choices like Arsenal and other Spanish top-flight clubs, he should have gone there to further his career, develop his talent better and stay in the limelight.

So, Manchester United played the Zebras today in a friendly. It ended in a 0-0 draw.

One nice moment -- when Del Piero was subbed off, the Old Trafford fans gave him a standing ovation. Kurt will probably hit me, but I think that was a rather nice gesture by the MU fans.

United fans are usually pretty good with respect towards 'legendary' players. I remember when Ronaldo scored a hat-trick at Old Trafford, eliminating them from the CL, and they applaued him when he was subbed.

BOBBY ROBSON has won countless battles during a career which has earned him a permanent place in the nation’s hearts.

But his latest fight, sadly, will be his last.

English football’s favourite knight has admitted that a fifth bout of cancer affecting his lungs will be the one which sends him to his grave.

He knows his time is coming to an end in a matter of months.

Yet his legacy will never die. No one would ever let that happen.

Sir Bobby has taken on and outwitted many a top-notch coach and team in his glorious life.

From memorably leading Ipswich to domestic and European triumph to taking England unforgettably to the brink of World Cup glory, Robson knows what combat means.

But taking on the illness that has hit him so cruelly once again is beyond him. Specialists have told the 75-year-old to prepare for the worst.Typically, he will fight until the bitter end.

Emotionally, he revealed to SunSport: “I have accepted what they have told me and I am determined to make the most of what time I have left. I have been fortunate to survive this long. It is thanks to my doctors and their dedication.

“My condition is described as static and has not altered since my last bout of chemotherapy.

“They have arrested the growth of the tumours on my lungs and I have my next scan shortly.

“I am going to die sooner rather than later. But then everyone has to go sometime and I have enjoyed every minute.

“I don’t even think about it and my biggest problem today was unrelated, just old-fashioned laryngitis.” Caring, charismatic and with time for anyone, Robson is loved by all.

He may have been struggling with cancer for 17 years but continues to spread his warmth over everyone.

Donating a £500,000 cheque on behalf of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation for a new dedicated cancer research centre in his beloved Newcastle yesterday simply said everything about the man.

Troubled times? The worst. You will not find him, though, shutting himself away in despair.

He added: “I am not going to sit around at home thinking about what might or might not happen.

“I have always found it difficult to turn down good causes and invitations from people I know.

“My family and close friends have always said I should say ‘No’ more often and now is no different.

“It has been a hectic summer. I have watched a couple of days of Wimbledon, several days of Test cricket and Durham county cricket.

"I had my own celebrity golf tournament in Portugal and managed to enjoy a few days holiday afterwards before returning to London, where I was honoured by the Football League Managers Association.

“They not only inducted me into their Hall of Fame with a host of celebrities but it was at a special dinner, the first of its kind.”

The word legend may be used too freely in the modern world of egotistical football stars. Yet it was made for blokes like Bobby Robson.

Will anyone ever repeat what he did with Ipswich, after a playing career which saw spells at Fulham, West Brom and Vancouver Royals plus caps earned for England?
...
An operation for a brain tumour in 2006 was negotiated. Then in May last year, cancer returned yet again — this time in his lungs.

Despite that, he is still bursting with an enthusiasm and love for football that should be studied by many of the money-grabbing mercenaries polluting the beautiful game today.

And the man is so special that Alex Ferguson even put to one side his bitter feud with the BBC last December to present him personally with a lifetime achievement award.

There will be only one Bobby Robson.

We must enjoy him while we can, as we will certainly miss him when he is gone.

Very sad news. Certainly will be a oss to the footballing World when he's gone. sad.gif

Chelsea have made a £19.7m bid for Real Madrid player Robinho. Not sure why Chelsea are in for him, if there's a position they don't need it's Winger/AM types. With Ronaldo now staying at United, I don't know if Madrid would be desperate to sell.

Yes, we've also signed Luke Young - who is the replacement for Mellberg.

I have to be honest and say I don't know a tonne about either of them, Shorey's made the last few England squads which is decent, and the Boro fans felt they got the bad end of the deal when we bought Young for £4m, which must mean good business for us.

Not a big fan of Robinho however I do think this fee would make him a worthy signing. I was hearing figures like £48mil a few weeks ago which would have been ridiculous.

Hopefully it would mean the end of Joe Cole as well so he can go to a mediocre club like Newcastle and show that he really isn't World Class like everyone in England seems to want to believe.

Anyway at least Robinho is only 24 so he has a lot left of his career not like usual Chelsea past-it buys. #cough# Deco #cough#...

Yeah, decent fee for him.

You don't like Joe Cole? I'm a fan to be honest, much better than that over-rated **** Bentley. Was one of Chelsea's best players last season in my opinion. I'd cry if he went to Newcastle, Citeh or Portsmouth though. dry.gif

I'm not sure what to think about Deco, Laoporta said they failures of the last few seasons have all been his fault, a bit harsh, but he can't have been playing well to be sold at such a cheap price and that said about him. laugh.gif

Well, Guardiola seems like another one in the Wenger mould. You know, great with kids but not a fan of ageing players. I'd say that Deco just didn't fit into his plans and noone would want to keep such a player on the bench. It would be a disgrace and expensive as well. the cheap price only means that they were quite eager to offload him. As with Ronaldinho. Deco is one of those "class is permanent, form is temporary" kind of players as we saw that in the Euro he was quite brilliant. I'm sure Scolari would get him back to his best. Though what I'm more interested is who will he choose between Lampard (who's the fan's favourite), Ballack (who is immense and the true workhorse of the Chelsea midfield) and Deco (who is the coach's favourite and the one who can play the attractive football that Abramorich wants). One more weekend to go. cool.gif
kurtsimonw
In my opinion..

Cech

Bosingwa - Carvalho - Terry - Ashley Cole

Essien

Deco - Lampard

Anelka - Drogba - Joe Cole

SUBS: Cudicini, Ferreira, Alex, Ballack, Malouda, Kalou, Shevchenko.

That's my opinion on it anyways. A few are interchangable. Wouldn't be surprised to see Kalou or Malouda starting, and SWP/Belletti/Bridge/Mikel on the bench. They have too many players!
Jack Sparrow
Scolari would probably go on a 4-5-1 I'd guess. I doubt he'd bench Ballack, who's much better technically than Lampard. And Ballack contributes to bella calcio more than Lampard. Who if not for the fact that he can bend the ball off defenders behinds, is rather ineffective(yes he has improved a lot, but he's still no Ballack when it comes to vision!).

Robinho's bid amount of 20 mill pounds? Madrid will laugh at their faces.
kurtsimonw
It will be a very good dilema for him. My personal favourite of the 3 is Lampard, not just for the obvious reason. But 10 goals in 18 EPL games last season? I don't believe there's a better goal scoring midfielder in the World, and Lampard is even a true AM, he's more of a box-to-box guy as he finished Chelsea's top tackler the other season. Of course there is one, and Chelsea are lucky to have him in their squad --> Ballack (of course Lampard is very good as well). At almost 32 he's better than ever in his career. He might have been unlucky last season to loose both the CL and the EURO final but Balle is not the kinda player who'd start whining over it. He's desperate to win the CL now.
Besides that Chelseas transfer policy has been really stupid this summer. Buying Deco..he's done plus it doesn't make any sense to buy a central midfielder when already have Balle, Lamps and Essien. unsure.gif

The transfer would have made sense if they sold Lampard after buying him but with that unlikely it is a bit weird. They don't need him but for Abramovich it's probably like seeing a 1/2 price offer in a supermarket, I mean 8 million's nothing... They will probably release him next year and buy someone else so it doesn't matter.

Bar a couple of players (Cech & Carvalho spring to mind) I can think of few that have consistently season-in, season-out done well for Chelsea since the Abramovich era and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

You snooze, you lose in big twos bid to sign Roque Santa Cruz

Manchester City and Aston Villa each want to sign striker Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn.

City boss Mark Hughes is now understood to have put Santa Cruz at the top of his wish-list but must wait for the funds from defender Vedran Corluka’s stalled £7million move to Tottenham.

Corluka has not been able to agree an increase on his City wage of £45,000 a week.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has also prioritised Santa Cruz and, if they are forced to sell, then Blackburn would rather the player head to the Midlands than join up with his old Rovers manager at City.

Villa are believed to have had an initial offer of around £10m turned down.

Meanwhile, Blackburn striker Maceo Rigters is heading to Barnsley on loan. The 24-year-old Dutchman has flopped at Rovers despite winning the Golden Boot at the 2007 European Under-21 Championship.

Mail on Sunday

Great news if true. And of the 2, I just don't see him going o City as they're on bad terms after the way City went about getting Mark Hughes from Blackburn, while they commended us on how we went about signing Friedel. If we signed him I'd be excited for the new season!

Well, besides todays result, disasterous times for Man City. Shinawatra has had his assets in Thialand frozen, and City are now unable to pay off the necessary installments for Bojinov, Petrov and Elano. This is forcing him to sell Vedran Corluka and Stephen Ireland against the wishes of manager Mark Hughes, rumour is that Hughes may walk out on City before even taking charge of an EPL game with the club.

Players they they have "bought" but can't afford to pay the remaining installments for will have to be sold as it would be in fact illegal to keep them. They're quickly looking like the new Leeds. The only good thing for them is that the tv money comes in next week, so that should help them a little, but it seems that that will be just delaying the inevitable. Liverpool Set To Make £12m Barry Bid

We want £18m and have rejected offers of £10m, £12m & £15m.. so I don't see why we'd accept £12m, but we may as I think MON has got to the point where he just wants Barry out. Reasoning behind the low bid is that Hicks and Gillett are sick and tired of Benitez asking for money all the time and they are as infuriated as Villa at Benitez at his handling of this whole saga. I just thought of something... maybe Milan could get Jo if they are forced to sell him... because Jo was the big name transfer that cost what... 20 million Euros? The only way they could afford that transfer is by Shinawatra's fortune.

I thought Shinawatra had big dreams for the club, but his past caught up with him... I thought Man City was pretty decent too.
