If our refs went by the proper rules, Berbatov wouldn't even have been on the pitch in the first place. 2 dives = yellow cards, he should be off.

So what? Lampard's was still a yellow card...

Nah, I'd have to disagree.

I don't see what yellow cards has to do with me liking Lampard, though. WHy would I care if he got booked? unsure.gif

Anyways, he and Essien have ran the midfield so far. Zokora and Jenas have barely touched the ball. Spurs need to make changes.

True, I don't see how they are playing differently now to how they played under Mourinho, it's exactly the same type of style and approach they had to what they had under Mourinho

With Mourinho, Chelsea did not play football they just won matches. Now, they still don't play football and they win less matches, this is the difference! tongue.gif

Spurs could have won it in the end, they did well in the counter attacks. Zokora missed a huge double chance!!

To those who used to say Chelsea's success was a result of Abramovich's money, not Mourinho's tactics.

Abramovich and other managers deserve this loss. that's the price you pay when you sack the coach who brought you success.

Exactly.

The thought of Mourinho losing a Cup final while having a 1-0 lead is laughable. I think it shows how great a manager he was for Chelsea, maybe people will appreciate his success a little more, they don't look like winning anything this season.

Eduardo - I am determined to overcome this injury
By Richard Clarke

Eduardo has given his account of the terrible events at Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Croatian, 25 on Monday, broke his leg following a challenge from Blues defender Martin Taylor in the third minute of the game at St Andrews. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery that night. The striker has since returned to a London-based hospital for further treatment.

Speaking for the first time after the incident, the summer signing from Dinamo Zagreb ruled himself out of the rest of the season and Euro 2008 in the summer however he added that he is 'determined to overcome this injury'.

“I don't remember the incident very well and it is not something that I want to see again on television or in the newspapers," said Eduardo.

"All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank. It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football.

“I am unsure at the moment of the extent of the injury and how long I will be out of action for but I know that I won't be able to play for Arsenal for the rest of the season or be ready in time for the Euros this summer.

"But I'm not worried about that. My concentration and determination is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury.

“I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at Selly Oak Hospital who carried out the operation on Saturday night. Everyone there made me feel as comfortable as possible.

"I would also like to say how touched I am by the many messages of support I have received and to be surrounded by my loved ones at this time.”

Anfield fans turn on son of Hicks

The animosity towards Liverpool’s American owners deepened over the weekend when the son of Tom Hicks was heckled by angry fans and spat at in a pub outside Anfield after the Barclays Premier League match against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Since admitting that he had held talks with Jürgen Klinsmann, the former Germany coach, about succeeding Rafael BenÍtez as the Liverpool manager, Hicks has incurred much of the wrath from supporters opposed to his and George Gillett Jr’s regime.

Tom Hicks Jr, who was appointed to the Liverpool board of directors in the wake of his father’s takeover of the club a year ago, had been to watch the 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough when, against the wishes of the small party he was with, he decided to visit the Sandon pub, a popular haunt among diehard fans situated in the shadow of the Kop, about an hour after the game had finished.

Although not immediately recognised, Hicks Jr was approached a few minutes later by one supporter with whom he is understood to have had a constructive discussion about his father’s long-term intentions, but after ordering drinks at the bar, the atmosphere changed. Hicks Jr and his party, which was thought to include at least two other Americans and two drivers, became the target of antiAmerican chants and when they went to leave about 15 minutes later, Hicks Jr is believed to have been confronted by one fan, who spat at him but missed.

About £1,000 worth of damage is also understood to have been caused to the car chauffeuring Hicks Jr as the remonstrations turned ugly. One onlooker told The Times: “It was just after 6pm that Hicks’s son and the group he was with came into the pub. After a few minutes people started to recognise who he was. They were at the bar ordering drinks when the antiAmerican chants started and they carried on until they left ten minutes later. You could say he was a bit naive coming in somewhere like that.”

Hicks Jr is not the first of Liverpool’s American contingent to visit the Sandon. Gillett’s son, Foster, did so twice before Christmas last year and was warmly greeted, although there was not the opposition to the takeover that there is now.

Despite Hicks Jr’s apparent claims that his father remains committed to Liverpool in the long term, Hicks was in Dubai last week, fuelling speculation that Dubai International Capital (DIC), the private equity investment arm of the Arab state, is on the verge of buying the club. Informal talks between DIC and the Americans have been going on for several weeks, but while Hicks’s intentions are unclear, Gillett is thought to be ready to sell his 50 per cent stake in the club.

That's uite pathetic behaviour, and not how you act towards a member of the board on your team.

Hopefully it just gives Hicks and Gillett more incentive to stay, even if it is only to annoy Liverpool fans.

ARSENAL: EDUARDO ACCEPTS TAYLOR'S APOLOGY
2/29/2008

LONDON - The Birmingham City defender Martin Taylor, who caused the injury to Arsenal attacker Eduardo da Silva, spoke: "I thought he didn't want to see me in hospital, something which would have been understandable. I explained to him that I did not want to hurt him and I hope he recovers soon. He listened to me and he nodded. I was very happy of being able to talk to him. After that I read that he was pleased with my visit, that made me happy. I will be really happy the first time he scores a goal for Arsenal."

I think everybody likes Eduardo more than before now. hope he recovers the best way possible.
Locke Lamora
Arsène Wenger believes Eduardo’s injury was an accident waiting to happen.

The Arsenal manager looked on as his Croatian striker suffered a broken leg at Birmingham last Saturday and has urged the authorities to give players more protection against dangerous tackling.

“What we want to have is the right protection,” said Wenger. “That is the second player we have lost to bad tackles.

“We are the team in the last three years that has committed less fouls than any other team, and the numbers are available. We are the team that has been fouled more than any other team and the team that has been punished more than any other team.

“We try to behave how we want to behave and how we think we should behave but we just want the right protection from referees.

“I can show you the legs of [Alex] Hleb for example when he comes out of a game — he doesn’t get the protection he deserves."

The man in the middle though is not the only one to blame, according to Wenger.

“I can give you examples many times,” he continued. “Journalists with smiles on their faces ask me, 'they got in your face today and you didn’t have the answer'. That is encouraging violence.

“And how many times do I sit in a press conference and people are looking at me thinking 'you try to play football but when people kick you, you don’t have the answer'.

“They have to take responsibility as well.”

Wengers basically saying football should be a none-contact sport. With all the complaining he's been doing recently, I see Reo-Coker getting a red card tomorrow.

Hopefully we can keep our unbeaten record at the Eimirates, but I don't think so. Arsenal 2-1 Villa.
Tennie
I think Wenger has a point to an extent -- some of the harsh stuff needs sorting -- but in some respects it's also a pot-kettle-black issue because there are (sorry, Locke!) Gooner players (Eboue, for example) who've more than once been on the giving end of nasty fouls.
kurtsimonw
Locke. Any chance of Arsenal resting a player or two for the Villa game, ready for Milan? I'm hoping Wenger does that and under-estimates us. We've only lost 2 away games so far. biggrin.gif
Locke Lamora
Tennie, I agree with you on Eboue, never really liked the guy.

Kurts, I think Wenger will field as many fit first-team players he can.
Senderos and Gallas in defence, Fabregas and Flamini in the center, Hleb and Eboue on the flanks and Adebayor and either Walcott or Bendtner up front.
Almunia in goal, by the way.
Darunia
Eboue is suspended I believe.

Probably something like

Almunia
Sagna Gallas Senderos Clichy
Walcott Fabregas Flamini Hleb
Bendtner Adebayor
Locke Lamora
Yup, EBoue is out, so we'll probably use Walcott on the flank, and play a 4-5-1 with Adebayor as lone striker.
kurtsimonw
Carew vs Senderos certainly puts a smile on my face. Sagna will have trouble with Young, especially with Walcott not likely to come back and help too much defensively. But Barry and NRC will need to keep Fabregas & Hleb off the ball as much as posibble!
dst
^^I think Senderos is a very good defender but he usually does a big mistake. If he manages to put this right he will be a great player. I remember Toure was no better than him at his age and was a joke at some times. But he's an awesome defender now...

I think he won't have any problems against Carew.

Considering some excessive comments he has made in the past I don't think it's very unlikely. tongue.gif But I agree with him to some extent; In most games, I see tackles that are clearly on the player and with no intention of going for the ball. These tackles deserve a booking in my opinion especially when it's more than clear that the tackle is made intentionally to cause frustration and hurt the players. Maybe the refs cannot see it but on the TV I believe we've all seen "smart" tackles that can even cause a player to lose control of the match. Being a defender I know that there are many ways you can hurt someone and make it look like an innocent foul not worthy of a yellow. And before you b*tches make any comments I have to say I follow Maldini's step being a clean defender and don't use suck tricks! tongue.gif

I hope Walcott has a good game like against Birmingham. But this time I wish Arsenal win. It was a big disappointment to see them draw last week even more because the victory was in their hands. I'd like to think that Arsenal won't be affected but these mistakes usually decide the winners... I'm really mad at Adebayor who could have simply passed to Bendtner for an easy 1-3 (I hope everything's alright between them now. Locke?) but instead chose to go for it while we all know he's no Henry... he's not a great tete-a-tete finisher in no way and he should learn from this mistake of his. He put his own record above the team! Had he done that, Clichy's utterly stupid kaladzity combo would not even matter. Not that it's excusable in any sense...
Locke Lamora
Adebayor and Bendtner are on friendly terms I think.

Oh and another little suggestion for the refs: When Adebayor's shirt is pulled, tugged at by an opposition player, that a FOUL. Just the same that applies for anyone else. Just because he's over 1.90 cm it isn't allowed for the other teams defenders to hang on to his arms and chest...wich they did at Birmingham, wich we should have had a PENALTY for...

Two. Man City and Newcastle, both away. But we've scored in our last 22 straight. But we also haven't kept a clean sheet for 13 games! Stats can be a little deceiving though, even though we can't keep clean sheets, we have the players with the most tackles in the league (Reo-Coker) and the player with the most clearances in the league (Martin Laursen), so we're obviously doing something right defensively!

Don't worry, Locke. Carew's the same, he's not allowed to win the ball in the air otherwise it's a free-kick. Refs seem to think their height is some sort of unfair advantage. And they usually only fail to win the ball when somebody's climbing al over them, but the ref still won't give a foul rolleyes.gif

Hmm, this could also mean that you are not doing something right defensively. I imagine it could mean that you are under too much pressure and/or you cannot clear the ball away and your defenders have to interven a lot.

In any case, stats are not so important in my view.
kurtsimonw
Well, Laursen has the most clearances because I hardly doubt there's a better headerer of the ball around at the moment. And we're built on pace, a counter attacking team, so yes, that's why NRC gets so many tackles.

Anyways. Precition: Arsenal 2-1 Villa. Adebayour + Hleb - Carew.
