So, all the games in Serie A are played today.

Fiorentina won the early game, beating Atalanta 2-1. Goals by Jovetic (penalty) and Gilardino. Gilardino's goal was very late in the game, nicely taken.

A Totti penalty has put Roma ahead of Bologna.

Watching the Flying Donkeys play the Gobbi right now. Through the first 15 mins or so, it's been pretty even. Both sides have had chances.
whoarethepatriots
WTF is up with the kick off times? 1:00 CET kick off for the viola, we play at 21:00 CET

What happened to the classic 20:30 kick offs?
Tennie
Somewhere, a donkey just took flight.

Goal Pelissier. Gobbi 0 - 1 Chievo. Total brain cramp by the Gobbi centerbacks.

Goal Samp (over Napoli) - nice free kick by Palombo.
Bologna have equalized.
Siena have taken the lead over Lazio.

Times are wonky this week because of the internatioinal break, whoarethepatriots.
Tennie
Chiellini just made up for his massive mistake in not challenging Pelissier. Nice goal from a Camoranesi assist. Gobbi 1 - 1 Chievo.

EDIT: Hah. that didn't last long. Pelissier outran Mellberg this time. gobbi 1 - 2 Chievo.
Tennie
Camoranesi equalizes for the Gobbi.
ANOTHER penalty for Roma which Totti converts.
Goal Palermo over Toro.
Fillipo Simone
Juve defense in Milan Senderos-Kaladze style today.

2-2 via Trez Yepes-owngoal.
Tennie
Palombo is having a good day. He just scored a second goal for Samp.
Tennie
But Pelissier is having a better day. Iaquinta scored for the gobbi, giving them the lead, but Pellisier scored for Chievo at the death. FT Gobbi 3-3 Chievo.

The CRA tip their feathers in salute to the Donkeys.

Juve 3 -3 Cheivo!

(Fishdoll really WOULD cry if you said you'd had cioppino for breakfast, Miz.)

LOL! I'd have it for breakfast maybe if I was a millionaire, so I don't think Fishdoll has anything to worry about for right now.

Didafan does admit that she's eating some cold leftover crab rangoons right now, though. smile.gif

So, a little mystery is being clarified somewhat. link

Apparently on Wednesday night and well into Thursday, Adriano was at a party. A big party, given in honor of a drug lord currently in jail. Also present at the party was another drug lord who was being followed by the Brazilian police. According to police records (says Mediaset), Adriano was observed with two guns in his belt, drinking constantly and smoking marijuana.

If there was legal trouble after the party or if he was too strung out to get to the airport, might explain why he's STILL not back in Italy.

this can't be true... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

edit: No really. I'm sure it's made up, this story does not make sense; why would anyone limit him/herself to smoking marijuana in a drug lord's party?
MizNelson
Good Lord. Udinese keeper Bellardi (sp?) is down after getting his bell rung by Stankovic.

Edit: He's up now and staying in the game.
Tennie
Well if it's fake, all the main Italian news sources are carrying the story, including the part about 2 guns. They're all also quoting that the info is coming from police reports. If it's fake, then someone with a really good imagination is pulling one over on folks.
MizNelson
JCesar is out of the match after hurting his thigh. He came down wrong after catching a ball and bobbling it. Old man Toldo is now in.
Tennie
I always liked Toldo.

That said, big oops for Udine. Own goal gifts the cugini the lead.

Inter 1-0 Udinese. Isla own goal. dry.gif

I always liked Toldo.

Same here, due to his sense of loyalty; he was willing to stay with Inter and sit on the bench after losing his spot to JC, and was recently rewarded with a contract extension.
Darunia
How has Zapata played? I'd like to see him in Milan..
Tennie
Decently enough, Darunia -- Udine have been desperately unlucky today. They don't deserve to lose.
MizNelson
What sucks is that it's a freak goal that did them in despite outplaying Inert for a good portion of the game.

Inter has to be the most boring Serie A champ in recent memory; even they can't put asses in the seats.
Tennie
I think their season ticket sales have gone down actually. It's well below ours.
MizNelson
Lazio are going down the tubes after their two-match win streak. Muslera had an airshot that allowed Siena to take a 2-0 lead, which would be the winning margin. sleep.gif

Meanwhile, Buffon played his 300th match for Juve in their 3-3 draw with Chievo.
MizNelson
Not sure where to post this, but early this morning, there was a terrible earthquake that struck in Abruzzo (Oddo's hometown, I believe). I went to Gazzetta's home page, where it said that they and Corriere della Sera were accepting donations.
Tennie
Put the BBC report in the 'natural disasters' thread in OT. Thanks for the heads up re: donations. The damage is really devastating and the loss of life likely to get higher. sad.gif

Wow. Yeah, it's Goal.com, but this article pissed me off nonetheless. What a bunch of thankless ingrates, some of the Juventus fans.

QUOTE (Goal.com)
Juventus Fans Fed Up With Buffon
A number of fans have voiced their disappointment about goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and the team's form following the 3-3 home draw against Chievo.

It seems clear that Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon hasn't managed to look like the same player following his most recent injury, and today he was given some harsh treatment by newspapers all over Italy after conceding three goals against Chievo.

While none of the goals were really his fault, in other years he would surely have kept out at least one of them with a masterclass save, the kind he has not shown very often recently.

The fans are also starting to lose their patience with 'SuperGigi', who had always been a fan favorite until now.

One fan wrote a message to Turin newspaper TuttoSport saying, "How long will we have to endure these humiliations? When will we get back to being the real Juve? We have an unacceptable defence, with Buffon conceding two-three goals a game, he doesn't deserve to be starting right now! Give us back [Alex] Manninger!"

Another fan wrote the following about coach Claudio Ranieri, who has always been given a hard time by the Bianconeri faithful, "Dear Ranieri, for two years we always been giving away the first half to our opponents. We are tired! Remember, we are Juve! We want to win, you gave away points and victories at home against small teams... We've had enough of being made to look like fools!"

Some have suggested that Buffon has been distracted by the transfer rumours surrounding him. His agent Silvano Martina did reveal that, if a major offer comes in, a move away from Turin will not be ruled out.
Tennie
The talk in Italy is actually more anti-Ranieri than anti-Buffon, at least the stuff I've read (which does not include Tuttosport). That said, I do think that Manninger has a better reacord for the Gobbi this season than Buffon does, shocking as it may seem.

Perhaps, but it's wrong for the fans to railroad Gigi for Juve's recent misfortunes, especially since he stayed with them for their season in Serie B when he easily could've bolted.

It's not about passion as it is about misplaced anger.

Buffon is nowhere near the real Buffon at the moment. he's doing just like an ordinary to half-decent 'keeper would do. Chievo's second goal (if I'm not mistaken) was really something the Buffon of three-four years ago would never have conceded.

Adri could quit the game
There are whispers in Brazil that Inter enigma Adriano could quit football after his latest bout of wanderlust.

If that's true, then that could spell doom for Adri-happy Channel 4. About half of their "news" coverage on the site would therefore be wiped out.

Nah. 90% of that is about what he does off the field and they will still be able to report on that...

The full slate of Serie B fixtures that were set to be played Friday have been postponed until April 21. Friday will be a national day of mourning in Italy and there will be funerals for many of those killed in the earthquake on Friday.

Ignore Rome derby, Mazzone roars
Friday 10 April, 2009

Outspoken former Roma Coach Carlo Mazzone has encouraged fans to boycott this weekend's Derby della Capitale. “It should have been postponed.”

The Serie B fixtures this evening have been rescheduled, as it is a national day of mourning in Italy after the earthquake in L'Aquila on Monday.

However, the top-flight fixtures will go ahead as planned, including the Eternal City battle between Roma and Lazio.

“They should explain to me why the Serie A games are being played,” Mazzone bellowed on Radio Incontro.

“Although to be honest it is clear that there are financial motives behind the decision.

“I think it will be a sombre derby. You need to be fully focused on this kind of game and you cannot be under such sad circumstances.

“Even I don't care about Roma-Lazio right now. I don't think Romans should go and watch it. Don't' go!”

::channel4::

I'm 100% with Mazzone. We all love our clubs but we can take a week off. They should have postponed the games now it's up to the fans to show them the way they feel about it.
MizNelson
I really don't have a problem with games being played, as many teams are donating the gates to quake relief efforts.

I think the games should have been postponed and I hope many games are boycotted today!

Postponing the games doesn't solve any problem. donating the gates money does.

The people have already been helped financially by the government but anyway... donating the money is not the reason why the games were not postponed.
Tennie
So at halftime it's Genoa 2 - 1 Gobbi. A deserved lead; the Gobbi defense looks like it's taking lessons from...kaladze who's having a REALLY bad day. Buffon is also looking terrible.

EDIT: And as the second half starts, Chiellini takes out Molinaro (headbutt; both going for a ball). Molinaro looks like he'll be okay.

Also a shot of Milito-with-baby-Milito-in-lap in the stands.

EDIT2: and a very naughty Camoranesi is sent off. Not a good day for the Gobbi. Genoa look good even if Milito isn't playing.

Genoa again and again justifying their position in the standings. I'm happy for them.

Can't even imagine how Palladino is feeling now. it must be amazing to score the winning goal against the team that treated you that way.
