I still don't understand how the Roma of last season who took Inter to the wire concerning the title have declined so rapidly over the course of a couple of months.
Yes they lost a couple of players during the summer (mainly Mancini who personlly I don't rate so highly) but I didn't think that could result into this mess called Roma that we are seeing before us today.
Valencia recovered - I'm sure Roma will by next season too, if not before!

Valencia were a much more dynamic and complete team than Roma unfortunately.
Besides the brilliant Villa, there's Morientes and Zigic.
Joaquin, Vicente, Silva, Angulo, Miguel, Albelda....it's just a much more rounded team. Valencia was a case of poor management.
Roma has got poor management (financially etc.), a coach out of ideas (which may or may not be coz of the thin team), and a out of sorts, thin team.

Well Roma are in a bad state but it does take class to beat them 4-0 in Rome.
They could have taken the lead in this game.
Mancini was not such a vital member for them. Totti is but they should be doing much better with him anyway... I think it has cost them to lose two titles in a row when they were so close. Do not forget they were champions for an hour last season... their players are not experienced enough to deal with this loss quickly.
It still is boggling me though...
They haven't won or even played well in a long time, Inter might have had a good night when playing Roma but it was still way to easy of a win so was tonight against Juve, they just don't seem to have the fight left in them
Who knows maybe they are doing as bad as they are doing because of the reasons you mentioned above, but to see them struggle as badly as they are now is still something I just can't understand

If they don't make the CL spots they will be forced to sell. And "forced" means they won't be in a position to ask for much... I'd certainly welcome Mexes and/or Aquilani.
That'd be great... for us

They definitely won't make the CL if you ask me. there are just too many better teams that could fight it for the CL spots.
They have one way out and that is to sell the club to an Arab or an American!

Well, if Bologna or Chievo win tomorrow, Roma will be in the relegation zone by Sunday night. Given the financial issues management has, the lack of depth of the squad, the inadequate replacements for players who left, the injury issues of key players, etc etc etc, it's more a matter of hoping they don't get relegated at this point. They may be forced to sell some of their big names, which is a sad thing to contemplate.
(Fishdoll would prefer De Rossi if he could pick one guy from Roma).

Yes, their situation is rather sticky .. I too think De Rossi might have a future outside Roma (I hope Milan), if the club is forced to sell.

Aquilani would be my pick. There's something I don't like in De Rossi's behaviour and attitude.
Roma had their chances last season and the season before. Both times they proved inadequate to the task. And as usual - after too many seasons ending up second best they lost both confidence and ideas.

I too wasn't a fan of De Rossi's behaviour and attitude.
But shortly after WC 06 - i began to like him as a player, he actually is a very good person as well.
And From Wikipedia the 2nd paragraph under his club career section:
QUOTE
De Rossi was praised by referee Mauro Bergonzi after he had scored a goal with his hand in a match against Messina. Bergonzi allowed the goal until De Rossi showed a great piece of fair play when admitting to the referee that he had pushed the ball in with his hand, the goal was disallowed and Roma went on to win 2-1.
I respect that alot as well^ (though this is not why I now like him)
If you've ever seen him play I am sure you would agree he is a really good player though.

I'd take Vicinic and Mexes. De Rossi and Aquilani are great but we don't really need 'midfielders'. Vucinic could be a great addition to Milan IMO.

Yep, but he is a creative central mid, it's probably impossibly to find someone that can replace Pirlo and do the exact thing he does, so we'll have to readjust a bit since the time will come when Pirlo won't be able to play in every game anymore and gets more injury prone in the coming years

So in Italy, there are usually a number of seats near the pitch reserved for the disabled (not sure if it's the same in other countries). After the Reggina-cugini game yesterday, Mourinho stopped on his way to the dressing room and spoke briefly with a young boy who was disabled.
The mayor of Reggina (keep in mind that Calabria is the poorest region in Italy) apparently made a snarky comment about handouts to the poor from the (rich) northern coaches. Bad move.
It turns out that what Mourinho had in fact given the child was a crucifix that had been blessed at Fatima (for the non-Catholics, Fatima is a pilgrimage site in Portugal) that his wife had given him.
I still don't like the way the man coaches and the way he behaves in public, but for what he did yesterday, +1 cookie to Mourinho. Very classy - not-publicity-seeking - gesture from him.

This statement can be true both ways.

More so this way: A miracle that a guy like Riise won the CL with a club like Liverpool. Miracles really do happen, then. At least, Dida saved his penalty in the 2005 final.
Locke can probably tell you more about this, but in my professsional opinion Riise should concentrate more on sending duplicate romantic messages to various celebrity women after the stunt he pulled some times back.

He's known as the SMS Kongen, (meaning
SMS King) in Norway for this. I mean I can understand sending multiple messages to various celebrity women, but sending the same lines. Ha! An average footballer at most, just like Baptista and Manchini.

Chivu has knee ligament lesion Sunday 2 November, 2008
Cristian Chivu’s knee injury is worse than previously thought, as the Inter defender has torn the ligament.
The Romanian limped off during Saturday’s 3-2 victory away to Reggina and there were fears he had sprained the left knee with a strain to the ligament, requiring a three-week lay-off.
However today the official club website announced that tests performed at the San Matteo clinic in Pavia discovered “a lesion of the interior collateral ligament in the left knee.”
The medical staff have decided not to pursue an operation for the problem, instead trying to cure him with non-surgical therapies.
It remains to be seen how long Chivu will be out for, but it is likely to be a month at the very least.
Channel4 Sorry for Chivu, but good news for us! I expect them to make a January singing for defense though.

For me, the symbolism of that gesture means very, very little.
I am a bit touchy on spiritual charity, and that cross won't change anything for the boys condition, nor will it alter Mourinho's, not a bit.
