Juventus Reveal New Stadium Plans

Juventus will unveil the plans for their new stadium this evening in Turin, and it promises to be a special occasion...

The Bianconeri will invest around €100 million in order to have a stadium which will compete with the best around Europe.

The facility will be ultra-modern, secure and open seven days a week with a state of the art shopping complex; the new venue will be built on the site where the old Stadio Delle Alpi is still standing.

Delle Alpi, which was built for the 1990 World Cup, will be demolished and Juve's new arena will be built. Work will begin in spring 2009 and everything will be ready two years later for the beginning of the 2011/12 season.

Plans will be presented at 1800CET at the Gianni Agnelli Auditorium in Turin and the pitch will be just 8.5 metres away from the stands, which is a far cry from their old venue.

Delle Alpi became infamous for its poor views of the action as the stands and pitch were seperated by a useless running track. 500 guests have been invited to the event and Italian FA chief Giancarlo Abete will be present as will Lega Calcio president Antonio Matarrese.

Juve's squad will also attend to enjoy an exclusive preview of their new home. The stadium will hold 40,700 fans and there will be 120 executive boxes. A shopping area as well as parking for 5,300 vehicles.

A Juventus museum is also planned like the one Real Madrid have at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Naming rights have been snapped up by sports marketing company Sportfive and they will be responsible for coming up with a title.

Juve will continue to play at the Olimpico grande while construction work takes place.

Good for them.

I certainly don't want Milan to move away from San Siro but it needs to be restructured. it looks like a Roman colosseum compared to other top leagues' stadiums.
Jack Sparrow
That's a new one. The San Siro is usually compared to a cathedral or an opera house. Especially because it's view for spectators is really amazing (R7 gives me proof of this).

But I agree it needs, heavy restructuring. Problem is, it's not the property of the clubs. It belongs to the Municipality and that can be sticky.

Galliani said something about restructuring San Siro a few weeks ago... he wants to first get rid of Inter and then do it rolleyes.gif

By the way, check this out.

To be honest I can't blame him zd. Remember the season before when all the security concerns were raised, and we had to install emergency turnstiles. Guess who footed the bill. Yup..the big AC!! rolleyes.gif Maybe it's coz Inter knew they were going nowehere in CL or whatever..but that kinda attitude is just not on. It's like you know..having an unco-operative roommate. Hey..you want to clean the room, you do it. I'd like it clean too, but I don't feel it's worth the effort!! rolleyes.gif

If Inter are gonna keep up with this attitude, then I can't blame Galliani. Why should Inter grow fat over AC's efforts?
Zed.D
Are you sure they didn't pay a penny for it? unsure.gif

My own interpretation of enthusiastic people!
Jack Sparrow
So Rino is Latin?? tongue.gif

About the payment thing....I know for sure, they didn't pay anything then. It was there in some Galliani interview, when he was explaining the finances, saying a large chunk went into installing turnstiles. Mainly, coz it was an emergency for Milan, coz we had a CL home match coming up, and UEFA said the stadium wouldn't be used unless the turnstiles were in place. Maybe we recuperated that money through installments later, but I can understand how in the Italian mentality, Inter's attitude then would leave Milan nonplussed.

Being a Sicilian is, in fact, very good in my eyes. rolleyes.gif Mafiaso isn't that bad either, unless you're a real evil guy. In fact, I like Italian people in general - Northern or Southern. We have four distinct provinces here in Pakistan and sometimes it gets pretty touchy. sleep.gif

Reports: Aquilani demands fourth

Thursday 20 November, 2008

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani will only commit his future to the club if they secure Champions League qualification, according to the latest reports.

The Azzurri ace has been widely linked with a transfer to Juventus, who reportedly saw a big-money approach rebuffed last summer.

Homegrown talent Aquilani has always stressed his commitment to the Giallorossi cause, but has refused to sign a contract extension in recent months.

The 24-year-old has just recovered fitness after a month on the sidelines and seems to have become frustrated in the Eternal City after watching his teammates struggle in Serie A.

According to Il Romanista, Aquilani is only happy to stay with the capital club if they manage to book a place in next season's Champions League.

Despite last weekend's victory over city rivals Lazio, Roma are still 12 points behind fourth-placed Napoli and will need to dig deep if they are to meet Aquilani's demands.

Who's willing to bet he will be a Bianconero next season, given that Roma will not make the CL?
Jack Sparrow
Italian kid....national team potential...up for sale and cheap too (since otherwise Roma would lose him on a free)...don't count Milan out yet. We might give up on Yoann though so this goes through. Use the money from selling Gourcuff.

The thing is Aquilani strikes me as having a bit of a chip around his shoulder. Not a 'good boy' like Fabregas.
Tennie
Oh, the Aquilani to Juve rumors are going strong the past few days. smile.gif

As for Italian regional rivalries, it's rather interesting. It's often seen in north-south terms, which is to an extent accurate. But even south of Rome, there are rivalries. For example, Campania (where Naples is) is not necessarily well viewed by people from Calabria or Sicily. Personal example: my grandfather is from Calabria and while his best friend is from Tuscany (the area around Florence, and they do sometimes get into yelling matches about their regions. used to scare me to death, the two old Italian men hurling insults back and forth), he utterly despises anyone/anything from Campania.
acid911
Scary stuff, Tennie. sad.gif At least Pola and his kins don't have to deal with this North vs South stuff. No racism too as all polar bears are literally the same. Makes me feel pretty ashamed of being a human, this racism thingy.
Fillipo Simone
Honestly, I don't see anything THAT special in Aquilani. He's good and has his moments, but nothing special.
Tennie
I don't know if I'd consider the regional rivalries in Italy to be racism. Bias? Yes. But I think it's in may ways reflective of the way that the country was only united in the 19th century and the fact that people still tend to identify themselves as being from a certain region (which, honestly, is pretty obvious as soon as they open their mouths. Regional accents are distinctive). The only time it really seems to border on what I'd think of as racism is the dislike of things/people from Campania. At football games, you don't see the nasty banners about southerners when Palermo, Reggina, or Catania come to play. You do when Napoli comes, though.

I don't want it to be bigger or better, just more beautiful. tongue.gif I don't know if it's just me, but some of the images look plain ugly. Benfica's stadium is much, much more beautiful piece of architecture than this. Most of Portugal's stadiums are well done. Or take German's for example.

This one will fulfill it's duty well, but a looker it isn't. From the outside that is. Inside is very nice.

To be honest it's been inter all the way in the first half. sad.gif Juve has one chance at most. It's their keeper that's saving them, Caesar hasn't even had to touch the ball. Ibra missed a very positive chance, otherwise they'd have been at the lead.

They have Napoli next weekend, and it is only 30% of the Serie A season .. There is still 70% to go .. And the deciding factor is when the merda will have to play the latter stages of the CL .. Now its too early to judge, if Milan win tomorrow, it wont really make as much a difference, since Milan are within 5 points of the top spot, and considering how much of the season is left, its too early to conclude anything .. As Juventus are still capable of mounting for a challenge too.

If we keep going on the UEFA Cup, both clubs will have the same amount of matches by the end of the season. And there are some good teams in the UEFA Cup. Some are better than ones in the CL.

About the match, I liked it. It was entertaining. Inter the best team there though Juve was not bad.
Inter got 4 clear chances before the goal: 2 from Muntari, 2 from Ibra (left-foot bah). Juve... I can't remember 1.

MOTM: Stankovic

PS: Adriano must re-learn how to head the ball.
