I was guessing it had something to do with that. But Pirlo and Seedorf were a different story to this. For one thing everyone SAW them play for inter and fail. And then come to Milan and play like a boss.

Agreed. Turning down someone as a kid is very different to having a player in your squad and letting him go.

Who's the best Milan youth player that we didn't hold on to? (Not that Pirlo, Seedorf, etc. were Inter youth) I can't really think of many, doesn't seem like we've produced that many good players in recent years. About the only one at a top club that comes to mind at the moment is Matri.
Fillipo Simone
Francesco Coco was a talented fullback we let slip away - but he never turned out good. Best Milan product now? Matri and Paloschi for sure.

About Baresi...sure, it's different then Pirlo or Seedorf, but not so much as one would think. Bottom line is, every time I watched Baresi play live or on old tapes, the commentator told us the story of how Inter rejected him. Same applies to Pirlo and Seedorf who got stamped as "finished" at Inter, but turned out WC in our system. That's what I'd like to see with Santon happen.
KillerMax
Paloschi is still co-wned by us if I'm not mistaken. So haven't let him go yet.
KillerMax
BTW, when it comes to these new generation kids, like Paloschi for example, I think they fail because they try to be and do too many things at once. I think Paloschi is trying hard to be a more and more complete player. This is were they fail. If you look at Inzaghi, he was never concerned with that. All he wanted to do was train like a pro and sniff out goals. He was a specialist. Kaka, Pirlo, Rui, Gattuso, all specialists. Now the newer generation kids don't quite get this. It is truly a good thing for all these new players to develop in all areas, but that should be a project on the side and the main goal should be to focus on one area or one key element with a burning desire. I mean for f@ck sake Juninho made a career for himself that way specializing in Free-kicks. It has been easier for full backs to develop into good players in our youth system because they already have a pretty specialized role. But seeing someone like Plaoschi is kind of disappointing when we all saw he was developing into a very dangerous player with Inzaghi mentoring him. But now he has developed into a big and rather dull player that reminds me of the likes of Caracciolo and not Inzaghi.

Rant over.
kurtsimonw
Agree completely.

Stramaccioni: "I'd choose 100 times Milito over Pazzini"

Dear Strama, what if you had both? blink.gif
Zed.D
Milito is obviously better than Pazzini but so what? what's his fucking point? classless comment IMO.

I think he was asked whether he'd do the Cassano-Pazzini swap again, to which he responded that they needed a player to partner with Milito, basically implying that Pazzini was no longer needed. But I wonder, couldn't they have kept both? I mean, Milito's been a shadow of his former self ever since the treble, he's very injury prone, plus he's 33. I think they should have kept Pazzini and rotate them. It's not like he was earning a lot of money, either. Now they're stuck with only Cassano and Palacio, the crappy old Rocchi, and they were so close to signing freaking Carew from retirement! Total fail.

Udinese 1-1 Roma

Good.
kurtsimonw
Ref was crap. Udinese shouldn't have got a red, in my opinion and Roma should clearly have had a penalty just a few minutes later.

Napoli down by 1!

Flying donkeys take the lead in the 12min.

I'm pretty sure that if I switch over and watch it they'll score and eventually win... So I think I'll continue to follow from here.

2-0 Chievo!!!

Stay away han! tongue.gif
TriniKing_CE
Ohh... And for what it's worth Juve are tied 0-0 at HT with Catania
X-Offender
This is amazing. If Napoli lose today (which looks like that way), we'll be only 2 POINTS from second place. Who'd have thought that! C'mon Chievo!
TriniKing_CE
Cavani penalty saved!!!!

2-0 it remains!!

Edit: Paloschi could have made it 3, but threw away a one on one soon after. Damn!
kurtsimonw
Cavani's had a very tough last month or so.
TriniKing_CE
Less than 30mins away from a 2 & 9 point gap at the top!!!!

Of which of remaining fixtures contain both Napoli & Juve.

That will be me, thank you very much happy.gif It takes not a few good seasons to become a top club. Players just don't acquire the DNA that separates the elite from the pretenders. Everything just has to go right (or wrong) for that to happen. Had we won the Inter match, this would have sealed the deal.
X-Offender
Yeah, the Inter match was a must-win, and not just for standings reasons.
TriniKing_CE
Juve score in injury time.... dry.gif

Meh, doesn't matter. It's not like we have any chance for the scudetto this season. The good thing is Napoli losing.

We have some small chance but these are the points that Juve refuse to drop. I think we can finish like 6-7 points from Juve come the season end. who knows, if Juve get KO'd badly in the CL next round, they will start to drop more points in the league. just like we did last season after the Barca tie.
han2503
I think the further Juve go into the CL the more points they'll drop.

We've noticed the trend with them now, every time they play a game after a CL tie they struggle big time in the league. We're what 12 points away?

I think if we win that head-to-head against them then the door is open, at least slightly ajar if nothing else, all we can do is try out best. Really hoping Juve draw Bayern or Real in the next draw that should keep them occupied for a couple of weeks
Fillipo Simone
Don't forget our CL campaign as well wink.gif
KillerMax
Just tuned in to Lazio - Fiorentina and was immediately rewarded with a beautiful Fiorentina goal. They play some attractive football!

Meh, we'll see if we get past Barca. Should we do so and we get a relatively easier draw to the tougher ones on offer then yes, we should give the CL as much effort as the league, but Juve will give 100% to the CL no matter who they get because they feel secure in the league, thus potentially opening that door for us because they will drop points when their fixtures get rough.

But if we draw Bayern/Real our CL adventure will most likely end there so we shouldn't even contemplate slacking off in the league to try and win those games, but like I said above, Juve would most likely be happy to drop a few point just to go further in the CL.
Fillipo Simone
I don't know. We'll see. The last Barcelona match proved us that nothing can be predicted or foreseen.
Rossoneri7
Merda almost over, 0-1 Bologna

4 mins of added time and Bologna have their teeth sunk into the 3 points. They are clearing all balls coming into their quarter!
han2503
And Lazio just lost 2-0

Fiorentina now the closest team behind us by 4 points

Overtaking Napoli and securing our spot is looking pretty good right now, just need to win the up coming head-to-heads (we have Fiorentina, Napoli and Juve coming up) If we manage to get at least 7 points from those I think we could be safe
Rossoneri7
Is over haha laugh.gif

Well done Bologna

Inter really spiralling down the drain

Can't believe we didn't beat them in that derby!!
Fillipo Simone
Yeah, that really hurts me. We had them where we wanted, and if Balo could have been as cool and concentrated as Ibra for example, we would have sealed the win.

Watched the first half of the game, and my god Inter are absolutely abysmal.
Jack Bauer
It's not over yet though (I'm talking about top 3 place). We'll soon have to play vs Fiorentina, Napoli and Juve in a row, and if we beat Barca then we'll have a CL tie in between. Hopefully we'd able to increase the point cushion a bit more in the next two rounds vs Palermo and Chievo.

We have already gotten pretty lucky with regards to points against those teams. From now on we are just gonna have to win to save our lives so to speak. If Allegri and co somehow pull it off AND go through to the next CL round, then they will have emerged a whole new team on the other side. I'm watching without being neither overly hopeful or pessimistic. I believe we can do it, but we'll see what happens.
Jack Bauer
I also believe we can do it, but need to be careful not to relax too much in the league and think like at least the 3d place is in the bag already. Few unlucky results and you can find yourself struggling again.
KillerMax
Firoentina are turning to a real unit and catching up. IMO it's gonna be between them and Roma fighting it out for that 3rd position while Inter and Lazio continue their slump. They both seem to be suffering from a lack of good strikers. Lazio have no one noteworthy upfront and Inter can't depend on Palacio all that much. They are both going through a locker room crisis too. Radu and Dias(both Lazio players for those who don't know) were fighting each other on the pitch today while Moratti is already talking about selling Inter. But Fiorentina look like a team on the up and up with good potential and a real tactician behind them. And Roma have changed since Andreazolli took over. Now whether we will be fighting those teams for the third spot or Napoli for 2nd only friggin time will tell. tongue.gif I'm so psyched for this period of football!
X-Offender
Nah, Roma play some atrocious football and don't have what it takes to fight for 3rd place. IMO it's gonna be us and Napoli in 2nd and 3rd, with Fiorentina and Lazio making EL.
Zed.D
^^ I agree about Roma. they have no chance of finishing top 3.

Gasperini leaves Palermo...again
By Football Italia staff

Palermo have officially announced that Coach Gian Piero Gasperini has agreed to mutually terminate his contract.

The Rosanero lost a relegation six-pointer against Siena yesterday, which left them five points adrift from safety at the bottom of Serie A.

And President Maurizio Zamparini has decided to release the tactician for the second time this term.

Gasperini was sacked on February 4 to be replaced by Alberto Malesani, only to be re-hired 19 days later by the Sicilian side.

A statement on their website read: “Palermo Soccer, at the end of a meeting between director Giorgio Perinetti and Gian Piero Gasperini, can announce that there has been an agreement to mutually terminate the contract of the Coach.”

Reports have suggested that Giuseppe Sannino, who himself was sacked by Palermo on week three of this season, could, remarkably, be re-hired.

I can't stop laughing, what a joke!
X-Offender
Oh the comedy! laugh.gif
KillerMax
How can the players even be motivated to play their football at this point? Can't FIGC fine or ban the joke that is Zamparini somehow?
kurtsimonw
This shouldn't be allowed.
Jack Bauer
Sack Zamparini!

Hopefully he'll leave after their relegation this season and someone sane will take over.

We earned only 8 points in the first 9 weeks in the league. Inter have earned only 8 points in the last 9 weeks in the league.
