This will really only make sense to folks who live in North America but I'm going to post it anyway.
Fox Soccer Channel does a 1 hour news broadcast each night. It generally focuses on the EPL and MLS but things got way out of hand with the way things were presented in Sunday's show. So I sent a complaint.
QUOTE
I would like to lodge an official complaint regarding the news readers who took part in the October 25, 2009, edition of the Fox Soccer Report. At times they sounded bored and disinterested in what they were reporting. The general tone of the stories about things not relating to MLS or the Barclays Premiere League was, to me, rather offensive and demeaning. It may well be that the newsreaders only care about those two leagues – or that the producers only care about them – but that is no reason to treat football everywhere else with contempt. Mr. Machado and the gentleman who stood during the program were particularly offensive. The only person to come out of that broadcast with a shred of dignity was Mr. St. Louis, who I think actually tried – and mostly succeeded – to do a good job.
If the attitude displayed in Sunday’s broadcast is emblematic for what the powers that be think at FSC, then I suggest the channel devote itself solely to the two leagues it cares about. It’s better hearing no news about the rest of the world than to have it dismissed by an unprofessional newsreader who wants to be cute or who thinks it is boring.
Much to my surprise, I got a response. And a nice one, at that.
QUOTE
You are referring to the segment of Serie-A done by Nabil Karim. He was not present on camera but DID do the hilites.
I actually did a set of hilites prior to his – and threw to him from my set “With more from Italy, here’s Nabil Karim”.
While I cannot comment on any performance other than my own, I will let you know last night was Mr. Machado’s FINAL show with ‘Fox Soccer Report’. He has taken a job with another TV company.
Mr. Karim will become more of a face in the coming weeks as he fills in while we find a replacement for Mr. Machado.
We are doing our best to work with him to get him to where he is presentable – or as presentable as the rest of us.
Speaking from my own point of view – I enjoy what I do and try to show as much enthusiasm as I can while still trying to have a bit of fun.
Some times this may go a bit too far and if that is the case, I apologize.
Rest assured I will forward your email onto the people above me so they can comment on it further if need be.
Thanks again for your email – good or bad, we always encourage our viewers to share their voices with us.
If you have any other questions/comments/concerns – please do not hesitate to email me personally.
Cheers, Jeremy St. Louis
+1 cookie to Jeremy for responding personally.

Interesting; I didn't know that Machado was leaving. In all honesty, though, the show was never the same when Michelle Lissel left in 2007 to work with Toronto FC.

Even in canada they don't consider Serie A real football.
Here is how far the ignorance has come to: 2 coaches at my club who are UEFA A liscences have labeled italian football as:
"a bunch of divers playing in a second rate league"
Now these guys are supposed to be Representatives of the game and shouldn't be making statements like this, but sadly thats the reality.
EPL is looked as god's gift to earth and every coach and player in NA for the most part tries to immidate their style in teaching/playing to the EPL. When talking about football its always about Manchester, liverpool or what chigago or toronto fc is doing.
Its sad, serie A gets absoloutly no respect. Spanish gets a little but not much.
Ps: nice email btw but I personally dont' see the point to sending it. I highly doubt they will change how they run their show because the majority of viewers want to see EPL/MlS content, not other leagues.
Tennie
Oct 26 2009, 11:52 PM
I doubt they'll change either, Blue. But I'm a viewer too even if I do now only view on the rarest of occasions (before big CL games if Bobby's doing commentary or if there's something special like Nesta's double/Dida's big save). Just because I'm not a sheep doesn't mean my opinion shouldn't at least be heard.
For real football stuff, I tend to focus on the non-English language broadcasters. It's more balanced.

Oct 27 2009, 01:30 AM
I think very little is balanced nowadays.
Football is taken too seriously by some. When we beat Juve in the Peace Cup Final I was watching it on an Italian stream, since it wasn't shown here, and the commentators were practically crying. No different than Andy Gray being pro-EPL in Champions League games.

So, the cugini issued their financial statements. They ended the fiscal year with debts of 154.4 million euros - after the summer sales and the season ticket sales this year (in which they were supposed to have earned money). Moratti is putting 70 million euros of his own money into the club so they have working capital.

That's really unfortunate. Siena's crappy results this year aren't entirely Giampaolo's fault - their management sold most of their best players including their captain.

How can anyone not consider Serie A real football, it is one of the greatest leagues in the world. The league is currently undergoing a transformation and is not really comparable to ten or 20 years ago. I found this football blog
here which agrees that Serie A can no longer be called a defensive league with some of the attacking flair on show.

Roma investors want Sensi out
Thursday 29 October, 2009
Roma shareholders have urged President Rosella Sensi to resign during today’s meeting. “We’re working with passion, not snacks.”
The club is in turmoil after three consecutive Serie A defeats to Milan, Livorno and Udinese while fans protested against the squad.
For many months a hardline section of the Ultras have pushed for Sensi to sell up to new investors, but now the call is coming from her own board.
“Today I officially demand Sensi’s resignation and the nomination of a specialist of this sector who has known credibility,” shareholder Claudio Rossi Massimi stated during the meeting.
“I want the current owners to realise we are working with passion, not snacks. Lacking passion is a sin that cannot be absolved.
“We are the ones who buy the Roma product and have poured money into the stock market, for shares that have depreciated in value by 80 to 90 per cent.”
Another shareholder, who identified himself only as Quinzi, was also furious.
“I am a simple butcher, but watching the game last night I made some notes. I want to publicly thank Luciano Spalletti, a true professional and gentleman, not one of those who climbed on the bandwagon.
“I want to know which genius decided to buy Artur, Pit, Simone Loria and Julio Sergio while selling many young talents like Daniele Galloppa, Giorgio Chiellini and Alberto Aquilani.”
Pizzicaria was more focused on Sensi herself and the growing unhappiness in the fanbase.
“If Roma run as an autonomously financed company, it is thanks to us. If the fans weren’t here to pay your wages, the club would be wrecked.
“I will be a Romanista again only when the club is sold on. In my eyes, Roma died with Franco Sensi. If 50,000 fans are chanting for Sensi to quit, there must be a reason, right?”
Meanwhile, President Sensi presented her new staff to the shareholders, including ‘optimiser of human resources in the sporting area’ Gian Paolo Montali.
“There was a change on the bench that we certainly had not predicted,” began Sensi in her speech referring to Luciano Spalletti’s resignation.
“Eras are completed and renewed, even if we would’ve preferred to decide that transition in a different way.
“For the new leadership of the team we looked to Claudio Ranieri, choosing a Roman and a Romanista who has had great success at home and abroad.
“He brings further guarantees to a club already known for its tradition of homegrown values, to this day working with three Roman World Cup winners like Bruno Conti, Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.”

Well, maybe he was holding his nose 'cause his attitude stunk.
QUOTE (CCTV)
Just 6 minutes into the match, Palermo's Giulio Migliaccio and Cristian Melinte teamed up to foul Inter's Mario Balotelli. The Palermo defenders ganged-up on Balotelli and brought him to the turf. Balotelli demanded to take the spot kick and captain Javier Zanetti had to pull him away from designated penalty-shooter Sammel [sic] Eto'o. Eto'o scored. Inter 1-0.
According to Moanin' Ho, Balotelli suffered from a high temperature (he believed it was an allergic reaction to medication he was taking) and had to come off momentarily.

Buffon makes World Player list
Friday 30 October, 2009
Juventus and Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is the only Italian to feature on the 23-man shortlist for the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
The news is yet another blow to the game on the peninsula as no Italians were picked among the 30 players in contention for the prestigious Ballon d'Or.
FIFA will present the award in Zurich on December 23. The current holder is Cristiano Ronaldo, although the favourite for this year's prize is Lionel Messi.
Buffon's Juventus and Italy international team-mate Fabio Cannavaro is the last Italian to pick up the award.
He received it in 2006 after captaining Italy to World Cup victory in Germany three years ago.
No disrespect to St. Gigi, but he got in this year mostly on reputation, as he was injured and off-form for a good portion of last season.

So did Kaka. I mean he was not even our best player last season (he was fundamental to our play and that's different). I hate it when players are chosen because of their 'names' rather than what they did on pitch.
