Their records in victories is equal but Juve were much more respected than these guys are.

They probably won't but I'm going to wait to see it. I always fear for the worst.

Well Zlatan's not exactly the player you're going to put your hopes on on a European night.

True, but against this Inter, I am of the opinion he would have really rubbed some salt in their wounds tonight. smile.gif

Against this Inter... even Kaladze would have looked great. tongue.gif It's not just their opponents that show no fear against them it's also Inter approaching these games looking worried.

Yeah, I mean, it's not as if Inter were playing Barca or anything.

And it's not as if when you're facing Barca you have to play as if you've already lost or anything.

Well even if they were pathetic Inter will still qualify... they just need to not lose their final game at San Siro (assuming Barcelona won't lose theirs).

Of course that's thanks to Rubin and Dynamo essentially eliminating each other with that draw between them.

It doesn't matter. Do you think United accepted defeat before the CL final last year? United looked terrible, it's like they were a 3rd division side that didn't care. Barcalona, on occassion, can do that to teams.
Suhail 3
Serie A just looks so much worse when the team thats won it back to back past 4 times plays like a freaking joke unsure.gif lets just hope milan and viola can fly the italian flag high in the cl inter will get dumped out at last 16 as usual

juve are a good side just unlucky in the cl
Warchant
if anyone could not qualify...it would definitely be inter

I agree with this. It's amazing they haven't won it in the past 10 years, God knows they deserved to.

I've never been more confident about something like this. they just don't have it in them when it comes to European football. the CL DNA talk is not BS. it's true! and I'm not even judging them based on last night. they kind of flopped in both of their Dynamo games.
Zed.D
Oh by the way, Perdo is one awesome player and I'm a fan.

If United looked terrible then Inter looked amateurish. They played not to lose from minute one, they were losing the ball in their own final third all the time and they could even string a couple of passes together. They also resolved to nasty kicks when they realized they could not stop them any other way... don't tell me about United, Inter last night were a disgrace.

+1. turning on the thuggish mode when you can't match your opponent football-wise is totally disgraceful. I'm glad they made themselves look pathetic though biggrin.gif

It is to me. it needs a little polishing though.

It'll be interesting to see Milan - Barcelona, we might lose against them, but we certainly won't humiliate ourselves unlike the merda.
Protagonist
I hope Rubin knock Inter out, if for anything, they are a real revelation in the Champions League this year.

I would like to ask, if we were ever paired with Barcalona this season. Would we be humiliated? I mean, sure I would expect a draw or to loose by a 1 goal margin, but would they have like 70% of possession and breathing down our necks when we win the ball back?

Its a frightening thought dry.gif

United can do that to other teams in Europe as well. Remember what they did to Roma two years ago? I haven't seen that kinda performance by Inter in Europe.

No one can tell. I think, out of 10 games we'd loose most of them. But in a competition like the CL, anything can happen.

krasic! amazing goal wolfsburg are losing, krasic is a really good player can we buy him plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

shame i kinda wished for a 1st place finish and then to be paired with unirea in the last 16 cool.gif still possible if marsielle an madrid hold each other an we win

Fishdoll is happy to report that Fiorentina-Lyon was MUCH more entertaining and fun than Milan-OM. the entire city got into the pregame stuff and there was a lot of celebration afterward too. it's still a sport in Florence, not JUST a business like it seems to be in other places.

Skint. 7th. Out of the Champions League.

laugh.gif @ Carragher. Unlucky Gerrard, you deserve better than this club.

Are you kidding? England's resident Louganis more than deserves to sink into the quicksand with them.

Nah, he could play for a much better team. I hate Liverpool, but feel sorry for him for the fact that he pretty much single handedly takes them to the CL every year, while nobody on the team seems to be able to do anything, they rely on him too much and it's not right. Oh well.

Random CL-related notes from Eurosport Italia:
* Lyon have sacked their coach, Puel. Apparently, Lyon's loss this past weekend was not well received.
* Chiellini is out of the Gobbi-Bayern game (pulled thigh muscle, should be out 2-3 weeks) and Buffon is a doubt (the meniscus injury he's going to have surgery for)
* Luca Toni wasn't called up for the same game and is expected to return to Italy in January; Franck Ribery is still injured and won't be playing either
* Ronaldinho IS expected to play for Milan

I can't believe this joke of a club, and they wonder why they don't do well in Europe? Maybe if they gave a single manager a real chance to actually build a team...

I hope Juve and Inter win. We need all Italian teams to qualify smile.gif

Joke of a club? I think they are one the best run clubs in Europe despite doing things like this.
rstevens
One thing which is certain about tonight's Champions League game for Fiorentina is that Liverpool are going to finally play Alberto Aqualini from the off. It is a time that Anfield must have been waiting for, but i like this Champions League article which claims that if he has been fit enough to sit on the bench like he has in recent weeks, then he should have been fit enough to play some part. Its strange times at Liverpool and Rafa Benitez must be scared of more bad results, especially as his side are now out of the Champions League.

Look, they've won 7 straight league titles in their country (who were World Cup finalists in 2006), yet they haven't progressed further than the quarter-finals in the CL. The reason? Take a look at their managerial story.
kurtsimonw
Bad times for Italian football. Todays clash between Juve and Bayern was huge for both countries as it would go a long way to deciding which country would be given 4 CL places next season.
Tennie
Possibly, Kurt. But Wolfsburg go out because CSKA won their game. Now it's wait and see for tomorrow.

btw, there's a long piece on Mediaset about how Juve's big spending on Diego and Felipe Melo has turned out to be a gamble that lost and that the team's in real trouble. I still haven't seen that game - won't for another couple of hours - but can also guess that Juve are probably regretting letting Zanetti and Marchionni go to Fiorentina for pennies and also bringing back Cannavaro instead of getting a real centerback.

December 18
Zed.D
I think Caceres (despite giving away the penalty) was easily Juve's best player. they have rated Trez higher only because he scored a goal - which is fair enough.

@ Jack Bauer

Thanks.
dst
^^I'd say Caceres was Juve's least bad player.

On the penalty RM and the 3rd goal OM conceded... what were Casillas and Mandanda respectively thinking? Awful decisions to come out of their areas, neither Niang nor CR were in a good position!

Juventus Ultras Advise Liverpool To Be Wary Of Fiorentina Link-Up
Tribute could ‘disrespect’ Heysel victims...

Liverpool have announced plans for a mosaic on the Kop depicting the word ‘amici’- Italian for ‘friends’ - amidst warnings that the tribute shown towards Champions League opponents Fiorentina could inadvertently be perceived as an insult to the Juventus fans that died in the Heysel disaster.

The Reds insist the mosaic is a show of gratitude for reception they received when the two sides met in Florence earlier on in the season, but it has been suggested that a section of the Viola supporters have been using the Anfield outfit as a means to taunt their Serie A rivals.

Photographs have emerged of Fiorentina supporters donning Liverpool shirts with ‘Minus 39’ printed on them in reference to the number of Juve supporters who tragically lost their lives at the 1985 European Cup final.

As quoted by The Telegraph, Juventus ultras spokesman Pino Leo said: "Liverpool fans do not know how their name and shirts are being used to offend the victims of Heysel, but we wish to inform them [about this]."

::goal.com::

(the underlined part:) Terrible! I thought the Viola supporters were classier than this. They first become friends with the 'fool mob and then this?
Tennie
I just looked at tuttomercatoweb, eurosport, gazzetta, and mediaset and not a one of them have anything about the Fiorentina fans doing that.

Here's a link to the telegraph article:
link

It doesn't mention the shirts. Just that the Juve fans are mad about a possible twinning.
dst
There are some pics of it here. If you read anything interesting in the comments below it please keep us updated.
Tennie
THe relevant stuff is already in English on that thread. Thanks for tracking it down, dst.

I've got to say I'm EXTREMELY disappointed in the viola fans. That sort of thing is really despicable. (Do they not realize or care that their COACH was one of the gobbi who played at Heysel?)

EDIT: And I have to say that I'm impressed by at least some of the residents of Turin. Eurosport is reporting that, this morning when the Bayern players left their hotel in downtown Turin to get on the bus to the airport, the passersby (ie, regular folks on the street) applauded them. Even if they were all Toro fans, that was a nice gesture.
kurtsimonw
That's shocking really.
MizNelson
I wonder how those pieces of trash sleep at night.
Tennie
Fishdoll gosh.

In the 15th min:

Dynamo Kiev 1 - 0 Barca
Stuttgart 3 - 0 Unirea (fishdoll especially gosh at this one cos Stuttgart are close to the relegation zone domestically)
Seville 1 - 0 Rangers (Fishdoll sorry to Danny)

Inter and Barca score, expect them to go thru

Liverpool 1 - 2 Fiorentina

Milan can draw: Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bordeaux, Sevilla, Barcelona

Personally, I'd like to draw Bordeaux or Sevilla for obvious reasons. I would not mind a rematch with Arsenal either.
