Madrid-Milan is Skys main game tonight. Glad to see Ruud Gullit agrees with me re: Platini doesn't like the EPL. biggrin.gif

Atletico are really bad. That could/should have been many more.

who?

Lothar Matthäus. Fifa world player of the years 1990 and 1991, Ballon d'or winner of 1991. European champions 1980, World Cup winner 1990, germanies most capped player ever and the person on the planet who played the most WC matches.
Is it really that long ago that he retired?

QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Oct 21 2009, 05:43 PM) *
Nice knowing you. German torture is not as inhumane as the old Chinese dynasty...if it's any consolation...

Your fingernails have no idea!

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Oct 21 2009, 05:49 PM) *
All I remember about Matthaus is him coming off the field in the 1999 European Cup Final, very late on, with his team winning 1-0.. the rest, as they say, is history. laugh.gif

Still Ottmar Hitzfelds biggest mistake ever.

+ Matthäus is an idiot.

Just doesn't make sense really. There's no room for sentiment in football, unless the game is clearly over. But 1-0 up in a huge game against a team renowned for scoring late goals, you take off one of you best defensive minded players? Madness!

Just saw the highlights of Bordaux-Bayern, looked a great game.

got a bunch of match photos. i'll try to get them up this evening.

Nothing to do with you, don't take it personally. Rangers came for a friendly at VP a while back, we went 2-0 up and the travelling support basically trashed the stadium and attacked women and children at the stadium,

Don't hold speculative media reports against this club - there is a small hooligan element which has attached itself to the club and has tarnished the reputation of thousands/millions of good supporters.
One alleged incident does not represent Rangers just like not all Man Utd fans are thugs following their clashes with Roma fans.

QUOTE
alot of older Villa fans REALLY hate your club. We also have alot of Celtic links. MON, Robertson, Walford, Tommy Johnson, Alan Thompson, Shaun Maloney, Stan Petrov, Didier Agathe, etc. Just never much liked Rangers much in any case.

Well suck right on it ya tim tongue.gif
Tennie
So, all in all, not a bad week in Europe for the Italian teams. 3 wins and a draw. I'll admit that I'm a little happily surprised (especially because I was in the 'Real's gonna kill us' camp).

The dirtyrottenscousers lost to a good Lyon side. Even Barca were surprised.

Not a bad week at all. smile.gif

My two coworkers, oddly. One is a diehard MU fan and the other is a diehard Gooner. They BOTH made a point of telling me today that they were sure Milan was going to win.

Oh, it's not a report or something that supposedly happened. I know people who were at the game, it happened alright. I generally find the Glasgow support is terrible, not just Rangers as Celtic are as bad. It was like a nuclear bomb had gone off in Manchester after the UEFA Cup Final.
Tennie
So, Marca has reported that Cristiano Ronaldo had an MRI today. The results didn't show as much improvement in his injury as had been expected. His return is now set for mid-November, which is AFTER the return leg at the San Siro.
kurtsimonw
I just hope he's back for the Barca game, that could be incredible.

I repeat my post. Just because a small number of *ssh*oles have attached themselves to Rangers and peddle violence in our name does not mean the club or the majority of the fans endorse it.

People in Manchester who had their city destroyed by 100k Rangers fans probably disagree.

So would the relatives of the 39 Juventini who were killed in Heysel. Or the populace of Marseille when the English fans went rampaging around the city. Or even the family of the boy killed in the clash between Leeds and Birmingham hooligans in '85.
Out of the 100 000 Rangers fans taking the trip, only 49 were actually arrested, and while the number of rioters was certainly much higher, come on, do you REALLY think ever single one of them took part in the sacking?
Tennie
The Juventini have certainly not forgotten Heysel.

It'll be interesting to see what effect it has on Matchday 6 this year, for dirtyrottenscousers-Fiorentina. Not that the Viola fans are likely to do much on behalf of the Juventini, but Cesare Prandelli played for Juve at Heysel. He won't have forgotten.

laugh.gif Oh come off, surely you have to expect to actually take criticism as well as dishing it out?
Is it really so much worse of me to point out the events mentioned above than you naming every single Rangers fan who travelled to Manchester for the 2008 final thugs and barbarians?
I don't consider it particularly "English" to riot around in foreign cities, but neither do I consider this new self-pity emerging as anything very "English" either, you've got to be able to face arguements such as the ones I made above without throwing a "They're picking on us again" tantrum and retreating behind a wall of bitter sarcasm.

You know I like you as much as anyone in here Kurt, and it's partially because of my respect for you that I am as honest with you as I am this time.

Locke, I think you'll find I had made a post in reply to what you said to show my side of the argument and it would also show the reasoning behind my 'England is the root of all evil comment'. You know me well enough to know that I don't usually mind debating/arguing. But it's because I respect you so that I edited my comment as you're one of the few people I'd rather not argue with on here.
Locke Lamora
Well you edited it before I had the chance to see it...
I'd still insist that a proper arguement about this would be entirely possible, even more so because of the factor of mutual respect, but if you don't want to, then well, it's your call really.

Well you're the root of tennis, football,, badminton, cricket and rugby. If you expand to include UK, golf as well. So this shouldn't really surprise you much.

Hitler was born down the road? I knew he was a Midlander. It was obvious from the way he spoke on youtube about the XBox vs PS3. Do you know Hitler and I share the same birthday?

You share a birthday? You're practically related then.

Not at all. We're very different.

For starters, I don't speak German, and I have stubble!

By the way, Stevie Me was not called up by the dirtyrottenscousers for their game.

Topping our group is key, if current results hold, we'd play a team out of this group:

Wolfsburg
FC Porto
Dynamo/Rubin Kazan (I think Inter will finish 2nd, if they do we can't draw them in the round of 16)
Unirea Urziceni
Olympiacos

and maybe Liverpool if they finish 2nd.
amancik
I'd say bring it on, I don't mind getting anyone as long as we're ready.

Rubin Kazan 0-0 Barcelona.

The Russians are an athletic team, fast on the counter and they parked 4 buses in their half today.

So the group right now is like

Barce 4 5
Rubin 4 5
Dyna 3 4
Inert 3 3

then we get the raw end of the stick _ with the likes of barca and man united and chelsea all awaiting wink.gif so 1st is the key if we have any realistic dream of progressing to the quarter finals at least

The only teams I think we have no chance against are the EPL teams because they have plenty of pace and athleticism which we lack.
