That is why I said they have a voice much bigger than the smaller clubs. They are a legitimate organization and I agree, but they are playing in a UEFA competition under FIFA rules. That is all I am saying ...

I think the G14 huff and puff, but under all the hype, they need UEFA much more than UEFA needs them. The G14 help each other and all that, and they get their way with UEFA in certain instances ... But UEFA don't need the G14 permission if they plan to implement anything.

Do not think of the G-14 as a number of strong clubs only. Football is money and everyone who earns from football wants the big teams in! Sponsors, TV broadcasters they ALL want the G-14 to be strong! And they are backing them up...

Rick Parry has confirmed the club's opposition to plans for FA Cup winners to get a Champions League spot.
UEFA president Michel Platini is behind the proposal, which would see only the top three from the Barclays Premier League enter Europe's premier competition.

Parry said: "Contrary to the claim only Liverpool and Manchester United oppose this in England, all the Premier League clubs at the UEFA meeting did so, and this position is supported by the Premier League itself.

"It's not a question of self-interest by the big clubs, because if you look at the recent FA Cup winners, all were in the top four. It's just more of a lottery in the cup.

"There's a strong feeling the Champions League place should be based on Premier League performance.

"Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle all feel the same way."

G14 Oppose Platini's Planned Champions League Changes


G14 - Europe's most powerful clubs - will not back Uefa president Michel Platini's plan to give domestic cup winners a Champions League place.


The elite G14 group of Europe's top clubs, who this week announced plans to expand membership by the end of the year, possibly to as many as 40 or 50 clubs, have made it clear they will not support Michel Platini's to change the criteria for entry into the Champions League.

Uefa president wants to allocate a Champions League place to domestic cup winners.

But G14's general manager Thomas Kurth said: "We're opposed to giving cup winners a place in the Champions League.

"We're very concerned about the quality of the competition and the damage this could cause," he added.

Platini's proposals, which could begin in 2009, would mean that in England, for example, the Premier League's top three and the FA Cup winners would qualif for the Champions League.

His proposals would give 16 cup winners a separate qualifying route into Uefa's premier club competition, and an allocation of four automatic places in the lucrative group stages.

The proposed changes were discussed by Uefa's Professional Football Strategy Council last month, but after some opposition from the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL), Platini deferred the final vote by Uefa's executive by one month.

The EPFL, which represents leagues such as the English Premier League, Spain's Primera Liga and Italy's Serie A, was given until the end of October to come up with alternative proposals.

Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick has described Platini's plan as a "perfectly reasonable suggestion."

I'm not /too/ surprised that Donestk won at home; they're a notoriously difficult team to beat at home. It'll be interesting to see if they can reproduce the form they showed today when they play at Parkhead or Luz or the San Siro. (With all due respect to Misha, I'm not too sure they can).

From the highlights of Chelseas game: Sheva played great and besides the goal was involved almost in every dangerous move, and gave good passes (Kalou missed 2-3 certain goals). Plus Chelsea was really unlucky not to score more goals in the second half, and wasted so many chances.

IF Shevchenko finds his form and the main Chelsea players don't get injured then I'd be sure of them winning it this season.

But is it a matter of form? We all know how great he is in the CL and we all know how great he used to be in the Serie A. But the EPL is a lot different, much more physical and requires different characteristics but his game has already been formed and it is difficult to change it at 30...
