I think some people are over-estimating Roma. If they get within 2 goals of United over the 2 legs, I'll be surprised.
*

It's just a different point of view... I think you are underrating Roma with this comment... in the end all I hope for is two great games. But there won't be no 7-1 this time... that night was their luckiest night ever... you know because Evra scored! biggrin.gif The difference was never so big and this year I don't think Roma should fear United.

^^^

Ditto!

I still think Man Utd will qualify but of course something like that will never happen again. it was a one-off performance, though the real difference was not that huge like you said. United saw their every ball in Roma's goal.

I think Roma should kill the tie in the first leg if they want to qualify, absolutely with a clean sheet, like a 2-0...

Here we Goa: Champions League draw mystery deepens

A MYSTERIOUS informant in India was behind the tip that led to the Champions League draw prediction on the ECHO website.
All four ties were correctly identified on a Liverpool FC forum 90 minutes before the draw in Switzerland. The man behind the prediction today revealed it came in a tip-off from Goa.Identified on the website as “Confused”, the internet user asked to remain anonymous, but said he had been told the draw by two different contacts. He said one of them received a “one-off” call from Goa on Tuesday.

The forum poster was so convinced he decided to place a £200 stake on the draw – but couldn’t find a bookmaker to take his money. He said: “A friend received the call from abroad but was struggling to find someone who would take his money.
“No-one would take my money either.” Several bookmakers said it was usual practice not to open a book on cup draws. But William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe insisted the company would have offered 7-1 as the odds on one particular team drawing another. He said: “Football fans are very interested in the outcome of a draw, but they are generally not interested in putting money on it. We were taking bets but there weren’t many made.

“It is hardly surprising someone had guessed a draw with limited options.
“There is nothing untoward going on. What would be the point? There would have to be so many people involved.”
The man’s post sparked a huge demand to log onto the ECHO website.
Former Russia goalkeeper Rinat Dasaev made the draw, which was televised live from Nyon, standing beside Uefa general secretary David Taylor.
Uefa spokesman William Gaillard said the draw was 150% honest and claimed the ECHO forum user “must have supernatural powers”.

Thousands hit website

MORE THAN 500,000 people logged on to the ECHO website over the weekend.
News of the Champions League prediction spread quickly, with more than 200,000 having a look within 12 hours of the post at 10.30am.
That figure shot up to half a million by Monday. More than 700 people replied to the post.
Papers and websites across the world picked up the story, making headlines as far afield as Malaysia, Thailand and Australia.

Interesting tidbit in the Italian press today. link

Apparently, Arsenal's Alexander Hleb left the hotel in Milan the night before the game with Milan...to meet with officials at Via Durini (home of the Merda). That's the hypothesis of the article, anyway. Hleb's publicist has admitted that he and his manager left the hotel, but insists the cab ride took them to a gelato shop, not to the Merda HQ. Wenger, so the story goes, is furious. Tapping up like that is still illegal, isn't it?

The thought of leaving one's hotel the night before a big game for GELATO? is ridiculous. Granted the ice cream in Milan is very good, but...you'd think players would have a little more discipline. The night before a CL game is NOT the night to go out for ice cream.

That said, the hotel the Gooners were staying at (the Melia) is way out of the center of town and quite near the San Siro, so if Hleb DID want an ice cream, he'd have had to take a cab or the metro. There's not a lot in the way of restaurants in the neighborhood.
kurtsimonw
I think it's very illegal. I remember Chelsea/Jose/Cashley getting huge fines for it, I'd have thought Inter/Hleb would be the same, if found guilty.
Darunia
Sagnas out for 3-5 weeks, not good timing for Arsenal.
kurtsimonw
They could play me at right back and be okay in the CL. It's not like Liverpool have an almighty left winger is it? tongue.gif
Darunia
Babel is decent tongue.gif

As long as they don't use Hoyte they'll be okay. Prob move Toure to RB.

CL Resumes this week.. go Liverpool and Roma, although Totti might be out sleep.gif

Somewhat interesting news on call-ups.

Here are the call-ups for Barca for the Schalke game at Veltins:

Valdés, Pinto, Milito, Márquez, Puyol, Xavi, Gudjohnsen, Iniesta, Eto’o, Zambrotta, Henry, Edmílson, Sylvinho, Giovani, Thuram, Abidal, Touré i Bojan.

No Deco (who, as I understand it, really has been injured). No Ronaldinho.

The Italian press reports that the Spanish press is saying that Ronaldinho may do a Figo and transfer to Real next year.

^^^ fits perfectly biggrin.gif

hmm, i don't know... here are my predictions for the games:

Roma 0 - 2 Man U
Shalke 2 - 1 Barca
Fenerbache 1 - 1 Chelsea
Arsenal 0 - 1 Liverpool

huh.gif Okay, those of you who watch the English league more than I do: is it a sign of (perhaps) overconfidence that MU are starting Ji-Sung Park against Roma today? I know some folks are injured but I didn't think Park was particularly good.
kurtsimonw
It would seem that way, Park is awful.
Darunia
2-1 Roma now tongue.gif

Forza Roma!!!

I want Roma to go through and I want Liverpool out. The latter is a stronger feeling... biggrin.gif
Tennie
I'm hiding from La Palma while I do this (because of local rivalry) but...FORZA SCHALKE! 96.gif
kurtsimonw
Oh I see how it is, he plays a full strength lineup at the weekeend against us, only to rest players against Roma. The b@stard! dry.gif

It would be really nice for the Bundesliga if Schalke manage to beat Barca. That chance is a very small one though.
Schalkes main advantage is Barcas arrogance IMO. Thierry Henry said that he doesn't know much about Schalke blah, blah... but he does fear one guy...Manuel Neuer. With a performance like that against Porto it won't be easy for Barca...even for players like Henry devil.gif
My guess: 1-0 for Schalke

Roma - ManU 2-1
Arsenal - Pool 0-2
Fener - Chelsea 0-1
kurtsimonw
0-1. Bojan.
Tennie
Vidic out (injury) - O'Shea in
kurtsimonw
What on earth is wrong with Ferdinand this season, he's actually living up to all his hype!
kurtsimonw
Ronaldo, 0-1. Superb header.
whoarethepatriots
Stupid Roma, they cant do anything properly
Portman
Cristiano now kicked Roma out of Europe.

Best player in the world by a country mile.
kurtsimonw
Roma need 4 goals now in my opinion. Even if they went on to win this 3-1, I'd be sure United would go through.
dst
Roma took a nap there...
Habitant
it's funny tho everyone is on ronaldo cuz he doesnt play as a winger apparrently. watch his header and see how he comes late and how there was over 4 man u players in the box and he wasnt sitting there as some claim or watch his amazing playmaking skills against aston villa on the weekend
Tennie
Well. He showed up for this one.

Although I still don't like categoric statements like the one a couple of posts above this one, I do think that right now on form, there are not many (if any) who can match Cristiano Ronaldo. Pity he's such a jerk.

EDIT: oops. edited to put the 'not' in the right place.
kurtsimonw
That's why he's so great. I'm not sure you can call him just a winger, or a striker or anything. He has the attributes to play anywhere in attack.
whoarethepatriots
Roma need to up their game

or break Ronaldo's leg

He is turing more into a forward than a winger now, he drifts into channels but i would hardly classify him as a winger

I think Roma could try and make their 'kick Ronaldo off the park' tactics a little less obvious..

They are stupid! They had stopped him easily but then they fell asleep / CR made them think he's out of the game and now they are frustrated and are not playing fairly... they should have not left him any space in the first place but now that they made this mistake they should go on as before not with kicks...

Yeah, the smart thing would have been to shadow him with a player, that usually stops him dead, but Roma didnt and know they are paying for it
kurtsimonw
Roma really miss not having a real striker in their team. They just have no-one in the box, ever.
kurtsimonw
Nice effort from Tonetto, unlucky.
