Basically, it's a bit more detail on the Emerson-to-Portsmouth rumor. The article says Milan will send him to Pompey on loan if it helps increase the possibility of keeping Beckham at Milan.

EDIT:

There's a long article on Mediaset about the whole thing. Basically they think there are three options as to why Emerson wasn't called up.

1. Technical choice. Carletto really did want to give the spot to Cardacio, who hasn't played a lot.
2. Transfer. He's so close to his way out that they didn't want him near the pitch.
3. Punishment. The club is Not Happy about the AS interview.

Maybe it's a bit of all the scenarios combined...? unsure.gif

Thanks 10e.

I would never believe the #1. it must be the writer trying to be funny or something! #2 and #3 sound logical!
Fillipo Simone
I'd rule 1) and 3) out. Why? Well, we were winning against Bologna after 45 minutes. There was plenty of time and space, and if Carletto had the slightest intention of putting in Cardacio he'd do that.
As for the interview, are we sure the interview is true? That he really said what AS wrote down?

I think he'll be gone. But I'm not so happy about it. IMO he still was valuable, if only with limitations.
Milan should then get another midfielder. Cause without him and Beck's, we miss a man at least.

I didn't fully understand it, but it still cheered me a whole bit! tongue.gif And to think I used to like the guy, a few years back. I never too much minded Brocchi either, it's just how both these players have been used recently is what turns me off. They always got more playing time and nod ahead of youngsters and Gourcuff.

Wouldn't want to do that, Habitant. We'd need to find something else to point and laugh at. smile.gif

So, there seems to be a definitive break between Panucci and Roma. His contract is up at the end of the season and they've only just started working on a renewal - he wasn't happy at the delay and there seems to be a big difference between what he wants and what the club is offering. Then today, big shock in the lineup for Roma. not only was a Totti who declared himself fit to play left on the bench - so was Panucci. when he found out he wasn't going to start, he refused to sit on the bench and was sent to the stands. There's an article on mediaset's website quoting him as saying he's leaving and quoting his agent as saying he might yet leave in this window.

hehe, i think i've only gone on it a couple of time since the summer (to confirm transfers), and the italian version is pretty cheesy as well.

Just to elaborate on what Tennie mentioned earlier:

QUOTE (TEAMtalk)
Roma fuming with ace Panucci

Roma's Christian Panucci could be on the brink of leaving the Giallorossi after being left out of the starting XI for Sunday's win at Napoli.

Panucci was named among the substitutes but refused to take up his place on the bench and watched the match from the stands instead.

The 35-year-old, who before Sunday was in the midst of negotiations to extend his contract, reportedly announced on the train back to Rome that he wants to leave the Serie A giants.

He is set to meet with Roma officials next week to discuss today's events and clarify his future at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma sporting director Daniele Prade revealed that the club will come down hard on the player.

"Panucci should have started on the bench," he told RaiSport. "But then he went to the stands because he didn't accept this choice.

"Inside the dressing room we tried to tell him the rules and we didn't like Panucci's action.

"He will be fined."

Panucci has been a key player for Roma since moving from Inter Milan in 2001.

In situations like this, who do you side with, the player or the team?
Fillipo Simone
Totally for the team. Till Panucci isn't coach it is not his to decide wether hr plays or not. Such behaviour isn't professional.

But the fact that his contract is running out has to do with it. I belive it's a provocation, or a "casus belli" to say...
Tennie
Panucci has always been rather difficult as a player. But the whole contract thing is probably part of it.

That said, I wouldn't mind him coming to Milan so long as there aren't any tantrums about guaranteed starting spots. Short term solution but let's face it - he's better than the available options.

There's an article on Mediaset that now states that Milan is willing to talk to Portsmouth about Emerson's transfer as he doesn't fit into the team's plans.

It's just been announced that he wants out after the season.

QUOTE (Channel 4)
Panucci: I quit Roma!
Sunday 25 January, 2009
Christian Panucci has confirmed he wants to leave Roma immediately. “Luciano Spalletti does not respect me.”

The defender refused to sit on the bench for this afternoon's 3-0 win at Napoli, so he was sent to the stands.

“I have made my decision, I'm leaving Roma, as Spalletti does not respect me,” announced Panucci on Sky Italia.

“I spent eight splendid years in Rome and I have not yet contacted any other club.”

His agent also backed up Panucci's position against the Giallorossi tactician.

“Unfortunately, this is the rapport between Christian and the Coach,” said Oscar Damiani.

“I will try to find him a new club and at least a solution to end the season. If he does have to go, I will have to work to find an alternative.

“Roma have to be willing to release him, though, then at the end of the season he will be free to make his decisions.”

Panucci's contract expires in June and he will be a free agent at the end of this term. Much of the tension within the camp is because Roma have hesitated in renewing his deal.

I heard he is going to Torino. He is a decent option for us as a player, but as a person, I'm not sure.
Tennie
Where'd you hear the Toro rumor, Max?
acid911
I still remember Panucci as that guy who funked up Paolo's last match (in the Superman shirt), in the FIFA World Cup 2002 against Korea. So yeah, I don't want him here, let him go to the Gobbi. dry.gif Besides, it's not that we're missing out on something big, his best is past him, anyway.

Tennie
See, I choose to remember him as the kid who stepped in in Athens in 94 when Billy was suspended. smile.gif He's certainly a difficult personality and would be more a short-term expedient, but I still wouldn't mind if he came.
I_Rossoneri
No more short term replacements please. We have Janks and Antonini for the LB slot so don't see the need for Panucci anyway.

He was great for us then. biggrin.gif But then again, why not renew with Paolo for an year or two, if we want to bring in players like him. Talented yes, but he's 35, and I can't see him playing for more than a couple of seasons, that too, if he comes in. Perfect case would have been for him to retire at Roma or go back to his home, Genoa.

If he comes, then it would no where be a disaster of a transfer. He can partner Favalli. Lol.

I think he's being targeted for a CB spot for us. unsure.gif We're comparatively okay on the flanks.
dst
As my friends always tell me when there's a 35 year old available or retiring... "why don't you take him in Milan, he's still got 5 good years there!"... biggrin.gif he can still play and we all respect him for what he did for Milan but the way he's behaving right now is just pathetic. I like him, he still has two very good years of football but we need more than two years and we need them by someone who's a bit more modest...

Hsm. thanks for the link, Max. Honestly, I still wouldn't mind Panucci here for a year and a half, but I admit it's very much a sentimental choice on my part. Given a choice between him and seeing Darmian get time...I'd easily pick Darmian, though.

I think he was being sarcastic?
Tennie
Not, apparently, to either us or the Gobbi. Secco and Galliani have both come out and said 'no' to a possible Panucci move.

Daniel Agger gave an interview to Danish paper Ekstra Bladet (which is...kind of the Danish equivalent to the Sun. Very gossipy, naked girl on page 3, etc). He says that contract negotiations with the dirtyrottenscousers have been stalled for 3+ months - they said they'd get back to him and never have - and he's really frustrated by the whole thing. Take that one as you will.

I'll take him. Over Panucci, anyway. cool.gif Remember if we buy the Italian, he'll most probably retire with us. Who in their right minds would buy a 37-38 year old CB, so that's money blocked. With Agger, that won't be the case. If he comes out good, we can keep him for as long as he wants, and sell him after wards.

Rossoneri7
Panucci ... Hell no dry.gif
han2503
Well too bad we lost a potential future star and it's all our fault.

Why we included the buy out clause in the deal I'll never know, or atleast why we didn't make it higher then 15 million a fee that a club like Bordeaux could never match.

Expect him to end up at a CL rival in a year or 2
Tennie
If we did indeed lose him, I am honestly not all that upset. Yes, he's quite good. But he just never quite fit at Milan. Don't think he'd have fit any better had he come back from his loan.

If he fits into another big team's formation it will mean we had a problem not him.

Not necessarily, zeddie. Some players do quite well at one big team (ie, sheva) and suck donkey balls at another.
