Cudicini to deputise Buffon?
Wednesday 23 April, 2008

Juventus director of football Alessio Secco is reportedly in London to discuss the transfer of Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.

The Bianconeri want a quality stand-in for Italy No 1 Gigi Buffon, who has been suffering with a back problem since the turn of the year.

Juventus' current back-up 'keeper Emanuele Belardi has deputised for the World Cup winner three times this season, failing to keep a clean sheet on each occasion.

Cudicini hasn't played in Italy for nine years since he left Castel Di Sangro in 1999. The 34-year-old played under Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri between 2000 and 2004 when the Tinkerman was in charge of the Blues.

Ranieri gave Cudicini his chance at Stamford Bridge, allowing the former Lazio stopper to establish himself as one of the Premiership's best goalkeepers.

Secco is also believed to be meeting with Mathieu Flamini to discuss a transfer to the Turin giants.

Further to Flamini's signature, the Italian Press have also reported Juventus' interest in a string of Premier League stars, including Xabi Alonso and Emmanuel Adebayor.

A great back-up for the best keeper in the world!

Christian Maggio has admitted he is flattered to read reports claiming Aston Villa are interested in snapping him up this summer.

The 26-year-old is impressing observers for his form with Sampdoria, although he is co-owned by Fiorentina.

After being asked directly about the link with Villa, the full back seemed enchanted by any possible move to Birmingham.

"It is a strange feeling to read these things," he told Tuttosport.

"I never knew it had happened, not until this point at least. But it's nice knowing that such an important club followed me as it's a demonstration that your work is being appreciated.

"But I live for the day, even if the dream is beautiful."

Maggio, who is under contract until 2011, is keen to force his way into the Italy side after starring at Under-21 level for the Azzurri.

"It's the target for everyone," he said. "I hope to get a call soon.

"Not for Euro 2008, unfortunately, because the choices are decided but next season I hope."

Villa are in the market for a new right back with Olof Mellberg departing for Juventus under the Bosman Ruling in the close season.

Setanta Sport

I can't say I know much about him to be honest, any good?
Tennie
Yep, he's pretty good. Not stellar, but a good solid player. Netted a goal in the Genoa derby, if memory serves.
kurtsimonw
I'll have tp pay attention to him the last few games. Though it's probably nothing more than a rumour. We need a RB, so we're being linked to everyone!

A legal loophole means Juventus’ next Scudetto could still earn them a third ‘star’ on the jersey, as the club can count it as their 30th.

The Bianconeri were stripped of two titles in the Calciopoli scandal, the 2004-05 and 2005-06 campaigns, after former director general Luciano Moggi was found guilty of attempting to influence referees.

The 2005 edition was left unassigned, but the 2006 title went to Inter, who had finished in third place, as runners-up Milan were also penalised in the Calciopoli trial.

Clubs in Italy place a permanent star on their jersey for every 10 Serie A titles won and at the moment Juventus have two.

Although their next Scudetto will legally be counted as the 28th, the club intends to mark the ‘lost’ seasons by putting on a third star.

“Juventus have won 29 Scudetti and soon the third star will arrive,” President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli was quoted as saying in Tuttosport.

The real news is that legally there is nothing to prevent the Bianconeri from doing this.

“A club can put however many stars it wants on its shirt. There are no rules defining the question and the Lega Calcio does not have it under its jurisdiction,” explained undersecretary for the Lega Calcio, Fabio Santoro.

“Let’s just say this is an ethical question. If Juventus wanted to put the third star when they won another Scudetto, it would be their choice and certainly not a violation of the rules.

“The only thing we would point out is that for the official Lega Calcio history books the Bianconeri have 27 Scudetti right now and not 29.”

Good day for us, we're 2pts from the 4th place and have 3 games to play!
By the way, there's 5 points between the 7 last teams (Catania, Cagliari, Torino, Empoli, Reggina, Parma and Livorno) the good thing is that la Viola will play their 3 last matches against one of these clubs cool.gif

I would hate to see Parma being relegated, but unfortunately its looking very likely

Yeah, I'd like to see Parma stay up, too. They have such a horrible away record though, I don't think they've won 1!

This day went good. We're 2 points away of the 4th spot. But Porty's sig is telling a lot. We have to play 2 tuff teams plus the derby with Inter. This doesn't sound good. Fiorentina on the other hand have 3 easier fixtures. I'm sure Cagliari, Parma and Torino will fight, but I've been watching does teams and their chances are...minimal. Cagliari is our hope.

How to win Inter? Hmh,..for this we need 90+ minutes of concantration and pure brilliance. We need Carlo to come up with something special..

Moratti To Madrid: Ruud For Ibra
According to DiarioSport, Inter Milan are ready to sell Zlatan Ibrahimovic if Ruud Van Nistelrooy is included in exchange.

Madrid are looking for a new first striker this summer, as Van Nistelrooy, who is set to turn 32 in a few months, is likely to move on to pastures new.

In the last few days the Spanish champions-elect have been heavily linked with a bid for Ibrahimovic, with some sources claiming that they are prepared to pay up to €70m.

The Swede has been dreadfully poor in the second half of the season, and hasn’t scored in open play for over three months.

More worryingly, and a reason for this dip in form, is the fact that the 26-year-old is suffering from a chronic knee injury, and there are fears the forward may require an operation.

Inter President Massimo Moratti is now considering selling Ibrahimovic to Madrid, providing Van Nistelrooy moves to San Siro as part of the deal.

One problem in this exchange could be the Dutchman's £6 million-a-year wages, which the oil tycoon is reluctant to match.

There were also reports in the media a few days ago that Ibrahimovic could be on his way to Barcelona in exchange for Lionel Messi, after Moratti admitted to liking the Argentine superstar.

It is difficult to tell how much credibility should be attached to these conflicting reports, but what has seemed apparent is that Ibrahimovic's future is far from secure. Whether Madrid, or Barca for that matter, can land him is another matter.

Now that would be stupid! Unless Ibra's knee problem is something permanent... unsure.gif

Tomorrow is the 59th anniversary of the Superga disaster.

On May 4, 1949, an airplane carrying the Torino team back from a testamonial game in Lisbon crashed into the Superga hill on the outskirts of Turin. All 31 people on board the plane died, including almost the entire Torino team. This was a disaster not just for Torino, but for the Azzurri as well. In the late 40s, Torino utterly doimnated Serie A (and were referred to as Grande Torino) and made up most of the Azzurri call ups. There's a memorial on the Superga hill and there's one outside the Olimpico in Turin.

Respect to those who perished.

Next week:

Napoli (10-4-4 @ home) vs. Milan (10-3-5 away)
Fiorentina (11-4-3) vs. Parma (0-7-11)

Napoli is a very good team at home, although Milan is good away, so this match could go either way. Given recent form Milan should have the advantage, also since Napoli have little to play for except maybe revenge for the 5-2 loss earlier in the season.

Parma is terrible away from home, so I'd be shocked if Fiorentina didn't win.

Milan can clinch 4th place if Fiorentina drops points and Milan wins biggrin.gif

Yes , and when they played Juve 2 years ago at one of the last matchdays they were losing 0-3 after 10 minutes or something.

I have no faith in serie A anymore. And Inter losing it would be soooooo sweet , but it will never ever happen. Expect too see a very strange game against Siena .

Some good news for our fight for 4th spot !

Mutu suspended for season Tuesday 6 May, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adrian Mutu will be suspended for the rest of the season, while Livorno are hammered by bans after the brawl that followed their defeat to Atalanta.

Fiorentina’s hopes of recapturing fourth place have been badly hit with news that Mutu has received a two-match ban for insulting the referee.

The Romanian was dismissed in the final minutes of their 2-1 defeat at Cagliari on Sunday afternoon, as he received a booking for a challenge, then continued his protests until he was shown a second yellow card.

This means his campaign is effectively over, so he will miss the Viola’s crunch ties with Parma and Torino.

After Atalanta-Livorno, the sporting judge has suspended Grandoni for five matchdays, Emanuele Filippini for three and Pasquale for two. Two matchdays and a 10.000 euro fine for Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu.

So Livorno have six suspended players ohmy.gif it's probably a record in Serie A blink.gif

There was some really naughty stuff between Livorno and Parma (I think it was Parma). The game ended with far fewer than 22 players.

Actually it was after the end of the Atalanta-Livorno game (3-2). La Gazzetta is reporting that Padoin the 3rd goal scorer (a great lob) was hit or something (I didn't understand the word "caccia" sad.gif ) so maybe there was a fight.
