The guy who played the most major part in our 2007 CL final win.

It with his pinpoint accuracy of that free kick, his pass for the second goal and overall play. So long then, Pirlo. Have a good time for the rest of your career, and enjoy the new Juventus stadium. At least, we will be able to see you a few times through the season.

This is a new Milan, a new era, and sadly Pirlo doesn't really fit. Been a good servant but I can't really see us regretting his departure.
But he goes with our best wishes for sure.

May 18 2011, 07:04 PM
Agreed, he gave his best years to our shirt.

And that's all that matters! Sure, it's sad that a guy like Seedorf gets to play onto the age 36, while we know that Pirlo can still add quality for another 2-3 years, and he has to go. That's not to say his performance levels have dipped recently, but Seedorf's deteriorated even more.
Anyway, fingers crossed we find adequate replacements for these two legends soon.

Someone the right age!

Seedorf will make the management regret this decision when he plays 5 good games from the entire season. Terrible mistake imo, especially if we don't bring in at least 2 creative players! If Ganso and someone else is brought in, then it's a good decision, if not, we'll have trouble

Different ideas. Pirlo wants to play in front of the defense, Allegri wants him on the left. We didn't want to let him go, it's Pirlo who wants to leave.

From the comments being made I really don't think so. I think Pirlo is fine playing left of midfield. Allegri just doesn't think he fits in anywhere in the midfield which is complete cr@p imo

Pirlo only wants to stay as an important first team player, and we should not want that, and Allegri actually didn't, which is good, and lots of respect to Allegri, and so Pirlo will leave, which, to be honest, is in my opinion a blessing for Milan. Now, we can sign a replacement for Pirlo, a player that is obvious better for Milan than Pirlo has been for years now. Good riddance, seriously, beautiful this.

When has Allegri said this? Tassotti practically spelled it out for everyone 2 weeks ago that Pirlo does not fit into Allegri's plans. Pirlo has said that he would like to stay on multiple occasions, I don't even think the club even offered him a new deal...

I don't expect Gattuso to leave anymore, but if he does, and I hope Flamini will get sold, we get a good DM that's obvious starting material, along Van Bommel, with Ambrosini and Strasser as backups.

I do hope Gattuso leaves.

And we get some extra $$$ to splash on a new player. Just like Pirlo, who should have been sold to Chelsea last season for a nice 15-20 million. Even Seedorf who if leaves will be leaving for free. WTF is that all about. You buy players for millions and then let most of them leave for free. Oddo will have to be dragged out, Janku left for free. Ambro if he retires here will also not net us anything in return.
Not everyone is Paolo Maldini or Nesta, and the club should have sold them when they had the chance.

Good point, acid. For me the only reason why I would be happy with Gattuso's leaving is because it's a crazy amount of cashing in for someone his age. Milan should have sold Pirlo when we still could have cashed in on him.

imho we got the best years out of Pirlo. And I was always puzzled as to what kind of midfielder he is; is he a DM? An AM? A trequartista? He himself doesn't seem to know, and neither did Allegri.
Because of the way Carlo moulded him from an AM to a DM despite maybe not having all the attributes to do that job, it kind of left him in the unique position of being a midfielder who didn't really tick all the boxes of any of the midfield positions.
The way I view him is he has excellent vision and at times great skill on the ball, but lacks pace and many of his passes go astray.
He's not a player I think that we really need any more, and I also feel he's past his best so we're best to move on.
As for whose decision this was, Pirlo said one minute he wanted to stay, then next minute said bye. So I get the feeling it's weighted more on Allegri's shoulders.

He's not an AM/trequartista. He used to be a DM, but now he simply cannot do that anymore for us. Which leaves only 1 position for Pirlo: CM. Pirlo has become a CM, just because he sucks everywhere else.

Allegri benched Seedorf for a major portion of the season. When did Seedorf actually pick up his game? When his time was coming up! Sorry but he's not a reliable player, especially not when he's played a lot, play him twice a wekk and you end up with 10 men on the pitch.
No, we need someone who can come in, who is top quality and immediately take that midfield slot, Seedorf is only a sub, and if he cannot respect that then he should go. Also Carlo shouldn't even be considered in this, his midfield 5 of Rino, Ambro, Pirlo, Seedorf and Kaka was untouachable. Seedorf practically walked aound for the most part under Carlo and still got in.
Seedorf this season was on the bench once better and more motivated players were brought in, it was only when we had our backs to the wall with barely a midfield left that he got his chanc, which he took because he had his future to think about.

Pirlo was never a DM! He was played in the position but was never expected to do what a DM does, that is why he had Rino as his bodygaurd. Once Rino started to wain, Pirlo's defensive incapabilities started to show

Of course Pirlo is not a typical DM, of course not, but he used to be so much better in that position, and not only because of Gattuso. Like you said: he played in that position, so that makes him a DM I'd say... and years ago his defending skills were much better than it is nowadays.

Pirlo is a deep-lying playmaker. I never called him a DM just because of where he played. Pirlo started going down when Rino did imo, they used to complement each other to a T. Rino started playing bad and Pirlo was exposed. Then the tactical problems with Pirlo's positioning ensued. We had Rino and ambro playing higher up the pitch thn Pirlo, leaving Pirlo to do all the defensive work while Rino and Ambro played as box-to-box, that was the biggest tactical

I've ever seen...
Then under Allegri he had a lot of trouble adjusting the team because of getting hit by a lot of counters, and when things started to really work with Pirlo on the left he got injured and now Allegri just didn't even seem bothered with trying

I know that, but I wasn't given that option by Danny.

As deep-lying playmaker, he was a defensive playmaker, making sort of a defensive midfielder, I mean, if anything, it makes more sense than calling him an AM or trequarista.

Oh, and eh, Ambrosini can do everything, also box-to-boxing...

Well in Italy he's called a regista, a trequartista plays behind the strikers. Still it shows how great Pirlo s to invent a position that is all his own, and I wouldn't really call Sahin a deep-lying playmaker, he's a CM imo
Ambro can barely run anymore, let alone go from box-to-box
