“We came here to win and Germany are afraid of us, as they know we can cause them problems. There is the same hunger as in 2006 and Germany play the same way, with more fans behind them, but we are on a par with Spain in terms of our midfield."

So,you read only the titles and conclude stuff?Bias is ok unless you're not blinded by it.

What did I say wrong this time oh football god of the universe?

Germany KNOW that Italy can cause them problems? Italy on par with the current Euro and World champs? Since your psychic abilities have informed you that I only read the article headline, how about finding some bit of fact that enabled your fellow psychic Pirlo to base his ridiculous comment...this Italian team is vastly inferior: Zambro, Totti, ADP, Rino, Canna and Nesta all missing. Not to mention their vital role players
Ooh they have hunger...scary stuff ohmy.gif
I hope Germany drops double digits on them this time cool.gif
Zed.D
I think technically Italy are inferior to Germany (not by a huge margin though) but that doesn't mean Germany will necessarily win. it hasn't always worked like that. this time I excuse Pirlo because Bierhoff was a bit arrogant with his comments on the game ("we've been waiting for revenge, we are ahead of Italy, etc. etc.") it's better if someone talked **** back at them and who better than Pirlo? wink.gif

QUOTE
Juventus star Andrea Pirlo continued to taunt Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart yesterday after his triumphant spotkick for Italy.

Pirlo is happy to talk up his cheeky chip in the Euros semi.

“I saw Hart was practically down on the ground already, so I tried it. I didn’t think about what would happen if I’d got it wrong, it was just a spontaneous thing,” explained Pirlo.

“Hart looked very confident in himself, so I thought we had to bring him down a peg or two.

“The nicest thing about all this was when my football colleagues complimented me for the penalty. That is always pleasing.

“Gigi Buffon reassured us all before the penalties and made us feel calm. He was proved right.

“I do not dedicate it to Juventus President Andrea Agnelli, nor Milan’s Adriano Galliani, but simply to all Italians. I have no desire for revenge on anybody."

Oddly enough the title of the article above reads: "Pirlo happy to continue Hart taunts": tribalfootball

I used to be his biggest fan here, and I'm not even remotely surprised at his performance for Italy. The rest of the world is, they're like "Huh?? You mean there's really other players than Xavi who can pass from deep?"...but while I do dislike a LOT about the way he left us and talked a bit, I think he hasn't really done too much to be crucified.

He talked trash about Milan- a club that gave him everything. I cannot forgive him for that. BUT he did nothing more, nothing less.
kurtsimonw
He's really turning into quite the arrogant person isn't he?

I suppose that's one positive from Istanbul, he would have felt completely awful after missing that penalty. Knowing he felt like that is now a good thing. May it happen again.
Jack Sparrow
huh.gif

My post was supposed to show how the media are twisting his words completely. They keep asking him about the penalty and he keeps talking non-committally as possibly...but they're quite literally putting words in his mouth.

Like Ronaldo's outburst against Messi and his Coppa America elimination. If you read the media, you would think it is a completely unmotivated attack, by a 'second-place' against the reigning champion.

It's really cheap. (I seem to be using that word a lot these days. It's used a lot in India but not sure if you understand the exact context).

For me it's really simple. It's after a long time that the international population as a whole have stood up and applauded an Italian as a complete superstar/best in his position etc etc. Not even in 2006 did Pirlo (bronze ball winner btw) get so much attention. So now the media is all over it, and we read different things twisted different ways,
dst
I looked back in this thread to read Pirlo's infamous comments and I'm surprised at how people feel about them. I don't think he's said something that bad, he does sound bitter and he could have chosen to stay quiet but it feels normal as I think he was treated unfairly because I don't believe he was as bad as people are saying.
Jack Sparrow
Exactly. I was surprised too. Personally, I think it's just anger that he never performed like that for us in his past few years, whereas he moves to a new team and has an immediate impact. (imagine how Inter feel about it!).

I think the difference is tactical. The 'new-motivation' is for me only 20% of the difference. I once made this similar analogy, under Leo and then Allegri, we were asking Picasso to paint a fence and complaining it wasn't good/fast/cheap enough.
dst
I did not watch the majority of Milan's games this season but the ones I did our midfield looked worse than the seasons before... so come he was that bad? And before anyone jumps to it, no, I'm not saying he was great.

I'm surprised the management chose to side with Allegri over Pirlo and that's why I think Pirlo is so bitter.
Jack Sparrow
Allegri had the scudetto in his favour, won arguably without Pirlo in the side. So it was clear Pirlo was no longer gonna be the beating heart of our mid-field.

Allegri wanted to move into a team structure without any reference points anywhere in attack. And Pirlo was hampering us in that department.

I don't agree with it, but well..there you go. He'd won a scudetto with his 'philosophy'....and came close the next season. But for me this year is the acid test. If he wins nothing, then I think he must leave.
dst
I would not say he came close this season. I'd say he let it slip.

I'm surprised the management chose to side with Allegri over Pirlo and that's why I think Pirlo is so bitter.

For the simple reason that they have a new policy to only hand out 1-year contracts to senior players. huh.gif Why insist on a 3-year when he can prove it on the pitch and earn another one at the end of the season. Pirlo earns less in Juventus, he could have gone onto ANY other club in the world if he wanted.

Instead he chose to go to our direct most rival (I consider Juventus worse than Inter, not just because they are, but they know how to win domestically unlike our cross-city cousins), performed like the word is ending this year while riding the vendetta train. mad.gif angry.gif realmad.gif An egotistical multimillionaire who refused a one-year deal at the club where he made most of his name, while everyone over the age of 30 was getting on-year contracts.

All that was okay with me, until he won the league and then started opening his beak.

I'm putting MY opinion as to WHY he said that. If he missed the penalty with his effort he'd have been silent as a lamb with his usual "meh I would have done it again sleep.gif " attitude (see Istanbul 05) You cannot separate the shootout victory and his fancy shot from these statements.

Giving your teammates confidence is great but saying a stronger team fears you without having a leg to stand on is just motivating the opposition. I hope Germany drop ten on them.
Jack Sparrow
Well here this should make you happy then:

QUOTE

"Our approach to the game against Germany will be the same as against England," Pirlo said. "This is the only way we can play. But unlike England, Germany can create many threats to our defence.

"England played a very prudent and careful way. They were sitting back all the match, like Chelsea did in the Champions League final. They tried to keep that same shape. For them going to the penalty shoot-out was a good result.

"There have been many games in the past when I've had as much possession as against England. In football it happens.

"The difference is against Germany, whereas Wayne Rooney stayed further up I expect Mesut Ozil to be a great threat in and around the areas where I am playing, even though he will not necessarily do a man-marking job on me."

^ No offense, but how come these arguments only come into play with Pirlo? There seems to be no need for exact translations when we pass judgement on CR7, Totti ...heck even Mourinho who speaks English.

It's like when Pirlo does something there's always a perfectly understandable explanation for it.

$heva leaves: many fans call him a traitor
Kaka leaves: he's called a money hungry mercenary
L3-0 leaves: ditto

Pirlo leaves: he's a professional and is within his rights to make a career decision dry.gif

again this isn't directed personally at you dst but it's just the general feeling I get from MANY fans.

Here's another example:

Dinho wins EVERYTHING before 2007 and plays without motivation: he's the scum of the earth
PIRLO F**KING SAYS THAT HE LOST MOTIVATION AT MILAN BUT WILL HAVE HIS REVENGE ON US ANYWAY and most see nothing wrong with it.

Yes I see...just can't help wonder if I'm such a despicable person...why do you bother with me? Why unblock me? You seem to go through an awful amount of effort to argue with someone as "biased and corrupt" as myself.

You are an insufferably arrogant hypocrite. YOU TOO dislike Allegri.....buuut because I don't dislike him for precisely the same reasons as you do, then I'm corrupt. Cool story bro!

Also EVERYTHING I said about Pirlo is true. I mean HE HIMSELF ADMITTED THAT HE WASN'T MOTIVATED AT MILAN FFS!! This in indisputable! Yet I am the corrupt one?

Did I make up the Ibra fights as well? Did I kick Strasser or Onyewu? His red cards? Don't hate me because I'm not bought like over by a plethora of goals against league fodder and continual disappearance in the CL!! I'm not going to turn a blind eye to things that drag our club's name into the gutter.
I didn't make that up. Records, stats and facts simply speak for themselves.

The fact is that we are all biased in some way. But only the utterly conceited and dishonest like yourself with your self promoting agenda can't see it. It's either your opinion or nothing at all right?

But to top all of this off you call me arrogant huh.gif

You guys can assemble yourselves into the most vicious n00b tsunami if you want and it still doesn't affect the TRUTH.
I remember the early days when I used to say that Pirlo played without passion for Milan I was insulted in all manners and called so many names. I'm pretty sure if I used the words contained in the above post you and the hoard of dru trolls would have been clamoring to the mods for my head. I'm asking for this thread to get back on topic and less about my opinion of the turncoat fairy.

You want class and verve? Go read some of the disgusting comments about Seedorf while he was a current player. Where is the outrage at those things? I'm not required to sugarcoat or tone down anything as long as I'm not breaking the forum rules. It's not my fault that the truth is hurtful and you are reduced to turning your anger at me personally than being able to comeback with the thinnest of rebuttals to my claims.

I didn't make Pirlo show close to zero emotion here (think of Clarence's tears after Tottenham) but get fired up as heck for the Azzurri. Sweating blood for Ladri and the Azzurri while nonchalantly jogging and assisting opposing attackers for us. Don't get mad at me when the times he had to take the lead to actually help us, such as in the Arsenal game '08 he flopped majestically. The only thing that got him going was the bruising of his evidently gigantic ego.

Again please let's get back on topic.

Pirlo: Italy have not done anything yet
The Juventus midfielder compared the spirit in the Azzurri camp to that in the successful 2006 World Cup campaign, but has urged his team-mates to keep their feet on the ground
Jun 29, 2012 12:06:00 AM
By Luis Mira

Italy playmaker Andrea Pirlo has warned his team-mates not to get carried away following their 2-1 victory over Germany in the Euro 2012 semi-finals.
Don't Miss

The Azzurri put in an impressive display on Thursday evening to see off Joachim Low's men - who had been tipped as favourites for the match - and join Spain in the final.

Italy have performed well above expectations in Poland and Ukraine, but Pirlo insists it will count for nothing if they fail to go on and win the tournament.

"We have not won anything yet," Pirlo told reporters. "[Not to win] would be like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope.

"We are convinced that we will have a great match against Spain. But if we want to have a chance to win, we will need to show the same spirit and desire we showed tonight and in the match against England.

"After the 2006 World Cup, we had some problems in the national team because successes were not coming. Now, we have reached the final."

The 33-year-old midfielder also drew parallels between Italy's campaign in Poland and Ukraine and the 2006 World Cup - where they defeated France in the final.

"The feelings are more or less the same," he explained. "There is the same desire to win and also some youngsters who were not in the squad in 2006."

Call me an incorrigible fanboy, but I think for the first time they're actually printing what he said, instead of taking snippets and twisting it to fit the tone of an article.
The English language media can be wildly spectacular at times.

The way they have made T.Silva sound like a money hungry so-and-so. Etc.

Andrea Pirlo has written an autobiography, which covers his Milan leaving gift, how he nearly returned to Inter and dodging bottles thrown by ‘viper’ Antonio Conte.

The midfielder is set to publish his book, titled ‘I think, therefore I play,’ and La Gazzetta dello Sport published some extracts today.

Pirlo reveals he was less than impressed with his parting gift from Milan – a Cartier pen with the club symbol on it.

“A lovely pen, but still a pen. Filled with banal blue ink. Adriano Galliani told me ‘Make sure you don’t use that to sign a new contract with Juventus.’ At least he got the joke right.

“As a goodbye gift I expected something more than that perfect comic timing. My 10 years of Milan, gone like that. I smiled anyway.

“It was a mutual decision to leave, as I did not want to risk suffering from boredom. That is why I was disappointed at the end of that final meeting, but only to the right degree. So was Galliani.”

Pirlo also wrote about the fact Massimiliano Allegri wanted to move him to the left side of midfield rather than in front of the defence.

“I still thought I could give my best there. A fish breathes when it is in deep water. It makes do when near the surface, but it’s not the same thing.

“We never discussed money that afternoon in the spring of 2011. Never. In those 30 minutes, we didn’t broach the subject of economics with Galliani. I just wanted to be considered important, at the centre of a project and not a player heading for the scrap yard.”

He had joined Inter as an Under-21 international, but reveals then-Coach Leonardo tried to bring him back there when his contract expired with Milan in 2011.

“He told me great things about Inter, how happy and fired up he was. It could’ve been a great challenge to go back where I had already been, to cross the city after 10 consecutive years at Milan, nine of which had been extraordinary.

“Leonardo could’ve helped me with that, if he hadn’t gone to Paris Saint-Germain a few weeks later. I couldn’t do it, though. It would’ve been really too much and the Milan fans did not deserve an affront like that.”

Pirlo also considered an offer from Roma, but was “suspicious” when the new American owners wouldn’t go into detail about the kind of team they were building.

“I have dealt with many Coaches in my career, but Conte is the one who surprised me the most. He needed just one speech, with many simple words, to conquer both me and Juventus. We arrived together on the Planet Juventus.

“He presented himself to us on the first day of pre-season training in the gym at Bardonecchia. He already had fire running through his veins and moved like a viper. ‘This squad, dear lads, is coming off two consecutive seventh-place finishes. It’s crazy. Shocking. I am not here for this, so it’s time to stop being crap.’

“If Arrigo Sacchi was a genius, then what is he? I expected him to be great, but not that great. I thought of a Coach with a lot of grit and charisma, but instead I discovered he has much to teach his colleagues in terms of tactics and technique.

“Going back, there is one thing I wouldn’t do again – choose the locker right next to Gigi Buffon at the Juventus Stadium, the one in front of the door,”
wrote Pirlo.

“It is the most dangerous spot in Turin, especially at half-time. Conte storms in and – even when we are winning – throws anything he can get his hands on towards the wall, which is my spot. He’ll throw anything he can find, almost always plastic bottles full of water. Very fizzy water.

“He becomes a beast and is never happy, as there is always some detail that isn’t perfect and he can see in advance what could happen over the next 45 minutes.

“One time we were losing to Milan and he couldn’t get over it. ‘Against them! I can’t understand how we can’t be beating them! They even play badly.’”

Those are ten years of his career we're talking about. Pirlo has won far more important things than the Scudetto. Those are not the point but it's clear he was p!ssed off about how he was treated because Allegri couldn't fit him into his team because he's too small minded to make that work.

Two small details:

1) Why is it important to dwell over a parting gift? I mean, what did he expect? A cake?

2) It's interesting how 1 miserable year can destroy 9 great years. That's the thing with people. You can help them and be generally good and compassionate. Then you make a mistake, and now suddenly all of your good work in the past vanishes.

Those are ten years of his career we're talking about. Pirlo has won far more important things than the Scudetto. Those are not the point but it's clear he was p!ssed off about how he was treated because Allegri couldn't fit him into his team because he's too small minded to make that work.

Like he can't fit Montolivo (similar player) into his team?

Pirlo was crap for the last 2-3 seasons, I'm glad we let him go. Montolivo is doing a much better job than Pirlo would have as far as I'm concerned.

Not small details, man. king.gif Totally, totally agree with both points. Well noted! These are the things that make a man, but sadly not everyone seem to possess these values these days. It's Pirlo's mouth, he can say whatever under the pale blue sky that comes to his mind. But his performances before he left, and his interviews after, are meh.

I can't forget Pirlo's last year or two at Milan. mellow.gif You know when he moved funny, just like bugs bunny.
