Great start!

Totally on Juve's side tonight, we need an Italian team to do well in the competition
KillerMax
I think I just heard a Milan chant at the Valencia PSG game... blink.gif

Commentators seem unsure who's goal it is. It should be Matri's, but nobody seems sure if the ref gave the original goal or not.
kurtsimonw
Hooper is a diving cheat. Glad Lichsteiner's not taking his ****, or the ref. Ref has been absolutely outstanding.

It's Matri's but the ref definately did not whistle for his goal he left play to go on. In fact Matri was already half way to running and screaming his head off at the ref behind the goal

Great game so far. I predict handbags to be thrown about at some point tonight. Too heated
han2503
They've now assigned it to Matri
X-Offender
Man, it sucks having to see Juve play so well when we have to witness Allegri's horror show every week. sad.gif
han2503
My question is. Had Marchisio not scored the follow-up, would they have given Juve the goal?

Because it was clear that the ref had no intention of calling it after Matri scored and waited until Marchisio scored to whistle it.

So they can use replays to assign the goal but to decide on giving the goal they don't
KillerMax
Are there chants similar to this one across Europe? Because Valencia fans were singing it. Were they making fun of PSG? biggrin.gif

If we played like this against Celtic people would be criticising. Juve have had 1, maybe 2 shots? Celtic have dominated.

I agree that I don't think they called it. In theory it should be Marchisio's goal, but I hope they use sense and since it was a goal anyway, just give it to Matri since it crossed the line. It's not like it affects anything.

Yeah they have given it to Matri.

But that's just it. Had Marchisio not followed up with his goal the ref would have most likely let play go on, thus no goal. But they did use the replay to then re-assign it to the rightful scorer, because Marchisio DID score. Had he not it would have just been another incident that's looked over
kurtsimonw
Love it. biggrin.gif

**** Celtic.

Does it matter? They trashed Celtic, totally cool and in control of the game. They let Celtic keep possession in the second half and hit them hard on counterattacks. We can't even make tow passes in a row.
Zed.D
Scott Brown... I wanted someone to punch that fucker in the teeth. too bad it didn't happen.

Anyway, great game from Juve. once again a 3-0 thrashing of a British side and once again I'm a bit jealous because they play great football (in CL at least) while we're almost unwatchable. imagine if they go on to win the CL... I know they're not that good, but it's football. can happen.

You said it at 1-0 when Juve could barely even get the ball forget making a pass. wink.gif

I remember complaints from you and others when Juve had all the possession and we won too.

Part of me wants them to start to run away with the league. Because if they still have to fight hard in Serie A (which Barca, Bayern and Madrid basically have nothing to play for in their leagues) it will only hold them back in the CL.

If we go out, I'd happily see Juve win it to be honest. I'm foremost a Milan fan, after that, it's Mourinho/Serie A for me.

First half Celtic had all the possession, tonnes of corners and basically all the attempts. Juve were mostly pinned inside their own half.

Juve defended well overall. I think Barzagli was brilliant. Celtic's only real idea was to put cross in, they had no idea from open play. Small team, small team mentality.

2nd most reds in CL history now apparently.

Good performance from PSG with a harsh red for Ibra. It really wasn't the worst challenge I've ever seen and he could and should have got yellow.

2-1 is a great score to take away from Spain.

I was thinking the same tbh... that they couldn't string a few passes together in the opening 20 minutes and that they'd employed the "long ball" tactic. but they held on well and after 20-30 minutes, they knew this was their game.

I think Neil Lennon summed it up how I saw it "First 70 minutes we pressed hard and played well, dominated possession. They scored their 2nd and then we didn't see the ball as much".
Jack Bauer
We need to steal one of PSG's creative players - they just have too many while we can barely find one sleep.gif

Lucas was amazing in their second goal.

It does not affect anything but it makes sense thus it goes against UEFA's philosophy... I'm totally surprised they assigned it to Matri in the end.

That's strange. If we played Valencia and their fans sang this, I don't know who it would cheer on more, Milan or their own team.

I guess players are used to hearing it... since it would be in Spanish too I don't think our fans would feel like home in any way... but even in Italy with fans of different teams using the same rhythms, players know when it's for or against them... I suppose.

Good result for Italian football, I wish Juventus success in the CL and to go as far as possible. Alas, Italy needs a strong representative in Europe, and if Juventus is better equipped this season then I will cheer for them to push on further in the competition.

Especially given Germany has three teams in the last 16 ... Seems hopeless, but here's to hoping king.gif
Danny
btw - cannot rise above it - I loathe Juve second only to Timmy so I didn't give a f*ck about that match last night or about who won.

All I knew was my telly would melt if I went anywhere near that game.

Agreed. It's got to the point that I don't even care if Juve become the superpower they were in the mid/late-90s again if it means it's good for Italian football in general. Hopefully if they do succeed, more teams will push harder for their own stadiums to try and compete.

1 team is not going to help Italy anyway.

We need strong representation in both competitions just like in the early 00s

And even when Juve were at their strongest, they were never really a huge force in Europe. That's always been our domain

Indeed. I like the balance. Juve rule and always ruled in Italy, but on a European scale, Milan tops them easily.

Any takes on the big match today?

Agreed, and personally I can't see them winning it, not by a long shot. There are far better teams in this competition than Juve. Juve are more of a darkhorse to the Barca/Real/Bayern/Man U. They'd be hard to beat over 2 legs but at the end of the day, they don't have the quality to win this, especially someone in attack to lead them

I think Real will shade it today. Too good upfront while Man U are very mistake prone at the back this season

You're the first to give Real a hope.

The exact opposite description has been applied - that Utd are too good up top while Real's defence isn't up to scratch.

fwiw I think it's a very even game - Utd comfortable in the league and looking very strong while RVP is actually on lava never mind fire, and Real with C Ron can't be ignored.

I'll be watching with interest.

Really? I've heard a lot of pundits expecting Real to just do the job today to get the win.

Yeah you're right that Real have their own problems at the back as well but Man U have been leaking a lot of stupid goals this season.

And while United have a great attack, I think Real have the better overall attacking power through their midfield.

But yeah, like you said, it will be a very interesting tie no doubt.

And Real don't have much to fight for in their league either...

I think RM have the advantage in this match-up too. Both teams have weaknesses but RM have Mourinho and CR.

'Other woman' troubles? The guy is a f*cking slime! Cheated on his wife not only with a Big Brother contestant, but his own brother's WIFE for 8 years.

What a total turd.

biggrin.gif yeah, I was just trying to put it nicely...

The same could be said for Man U's defense though. Both teams are great attack-wise, but their defensive issues is what will most likely keep them from winning this. The tie is still far from over though, that game at OT will be great to watch no doubt
