It's Matri's but the ref definately did not whistle for his goal he left play to go on. In fact Matri was already half way to running and screaming his head off at the ref behind the goal
Great game so far. I predict handbags to be thrown about at some point tonight. Too heated

My question is. Had Marchisio not scored the follow-up, would they have given Juve the goal?
Because it was clear that the ref had no intention of calling it after Matri scored and waited until Marchisio scored to whistle it.
So they can use replays to assign the goal but to decide on giving the goal they don't

If we played like this against Celtic people would be criticising. Juve have had 1, maybe 2 shots? Celtic have dominated.

I agree that I don't think they called it. In theory it should be Marchisio's goal, but I hope they use sense and since it was a goal anyway, just give it to Matri since it crossed the line. It's not like it affects anything.

Yeah they have given it to Matri.
But that's just it. Had Marchisio not followed up with his goal the ref would have most likely let play go on, thus no goal. But they did use the replay to then re-assign it to the rightful scorer, because Marchisio DID score. Had he not it would have just been another incident that's looked over

Does it matter? They trashed Celtic, totally cool and in control of the game. They let Celtic keep possession in the second half and hit them hard on counterattacks. We can't even make tow passes in a row.

Anyway, great game from Juve. once again a 3-0 thrashing of a British side and once again I'm a bit jealous because they play great football (in CL at least) while we're almost unwatchable. imagine if they go on to win the CL... I know they're not that good, but it's football. can happen.

I remember complaints from you and others when Juve had all the possession and we won too.

Part of me wants them to start to run away with the league. Because if they still have to fight hard in Serie A (which Barca, Bayern and Madrid basically have nothing to play for in their leagues) it will only hold them back in the CL.
If we go out, I'd happily see Juve win it to be honest. I'm foremost a Milan fan, after that, it's Mourinho/Serie A for me.

First half Celtic had all the possession, tonnes of corners and basically all the attempts. Juve were mostly pinned inside their own half.
Juve defended well overall. I think Barzagli was brilliant. Celtic's only real idea was to put cross in, they had no idea from open play. Small team, small team mentality.

I was thinking the same tbh... that they couldn't string a few passes together in the opening 20 minutes and that they'd employed the "long ball" tactic. but they held on well and after 20-30 minutes, they knew this was their game.

I think Neil Lennon summed it up how I saw it "First 70 minutes we pressed hard and played well, dominated possession. They scored their 2nd and then we didn't see the ball as much".

Agreed. It's got to the point that I don't even care if Juve become the superpower they were in the mid/late-90s again if it means it's good for Italian football in general. Hopefully if they do succeed, more teams will push harder for their own stadiums to try and compete.

Agreed, and personally I can't see them winning it, not by a long shot. There are far better teams in this competition than Juve. Juve are more of a darkhorse to the Barca/Real/Bayern/Man U. They'd be hard to beat over 2 legs but at the end of the day, they don't have the quality to win this, especially someone in attack to lead them

You're the first to give Real a hope.
The exact opposite description has been applied - that Utd are too good up top while Real's defence isn't up to scratch.
fwiw I think it's a very even game - Utd comfortable in the league and looking very strong while RVP is actually on lava never mind fire, and Real with C Ron can't be ignored.

Really? I've heard a lot of pundits expecting Real to just do the job today to get the win.
Yeah you're right that Real have their own problems at the back as well but Man U have been leaking a lot of stupid goals this season.
And while United have a great attack, I think Real have the better overall attacking power through their midfield.
