Goodness gracious me,...can this get any worse? I mean,...it's like Liverpool and Chelsea fielded 11 classic offensive players with no sense of positioning, order, or man marking. This is only possible with Liverpool and Chelsea I suppose. Like the 3-0, turning into a 3-3.

There's only one thing I can't make out. how come it looked so hard for Madrid/Juve to score against Liverpool/Cheslea, if they are not good at defending...? do they forget how to defend only against EPL sides?
Habitant
Apr 14 2009, 09:49 PM
most of the goals were either deflected or due to poorl GKing, the defending wasnt that bad. keep in mind liverpool opened up since kick off. they needed a min of 3 goals played like that all match long which in turn gave chelsea plenty of space to attack.

Went down to the pub for Chelsea vs Liverpool although the game starts at 4:45am Australia time lol pub was still packed.
Gotta say it was some game, how the hell do 2 sets of quality defenders (supposedly) all disappear at once?It made the game more interesting but it was comical.
Petr Cech............Seriously if Chelsea had lost that guy wouldn't hear the end of it he was terrible and the Chelsea fans at the pub were going nuts at him lol...Maybe his helmet was on too tight.
oh btw Drogba is a machine!

Well if you're a football fanatic in Australia that's what you gotta do =/ there's a huge EPL following here.
They were certainly serving beer,i think that's their incentive to stay open all night for CL games and it's usually packed out too.

Be warned, it's Goal.com, but the ratings are somewhat eyebrow-raising nonetheless.
QUOTE (Goal.com)
Petr Cech (2): There is no word to describe just how bad a man once considered world class in his position was tonight. He was so nervous and hapless you'd have been forgiven for thinking he was on Liverpool's side. Shaky from crosses, culpable for the first two goals (could have claimed the cross before penalty award) and left two open goals that could have killed his side's chances either side of half time. the first Chelsea goal, he also set up the fourth. Decisive if nothing else.
Pepe Reina (4): Claimed crosses comfortably throughout the first half. Looked unflappable. AND THEN. Then he made the most unbelievable error of the entire game, palming an innocuous cross, with just the slightest of flicks from Drogba, into his own net. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
It's sad to see two otherwise excellent keepers have such piss-poor outings. But were they
that bad? I'd like your opinions.

peter cech was awful. even after it was 4-4, he was caught completely out of position again, and the pitbull terrier michael essien was there on the line to clear the ball with an awkward, crucial goal saving header. The number of times cech misplayed crosses and allowed the ball to bounce around in the 6 yard box was shocking.
reina was also worthy of that rating. simply watch the first drogba goal to see why. liverpool were absolutely bossing chelsea around until reina made a blunder our beloved dida would be proud of...

, and allowed drogba/chelsea to get a sniff of blood, and once they smelt it, they came with force. reina single handedly allowed chelsea into the match with that blunder. and it was a shocking blunder.
drogba was absolutely immense.

I did not watch the entire game so I can't comment on these ratings. I just recall what Torres said about Reina taking Casillas' starting place in the Spanish NT and laugh...

I only saw the second half of the game but yeah. Both keepers were poor. Cech has, I think, lost his mojo. He looked dreadful last night. Reina was marginally better but still he let in 4. Of course neither keeper was helped by their defenses which, let's face it, sucked donkey balls.
