Ronnie’s return draws closer
Tuesday 2 October, 2007

Milan could welcome back Brazilian star Ronaldo in the near future, but they will have to do without Kakha Kaladze for at least a month.

Ronaldo’s injury was one of the stories of the summer after his recovery descended into an embarrassing farce for Milan’s medical team.

Having reported discomfort in his thigh on July 22 after the presentation of the Rossoneri side at the San Siro, reports indicated that he would be back in action for the start of the season.

However, it emerged that the diagnosis had been flawed and the problem was more serious, so a disillusioned Ronado went to Brazil to be treated by Selecao doctor Jose Luis Runco.

Rumours then started that Runco was using an experimental treatment that involved injecting live cells into the damaged tissue and allegations that the process was a form of doping emerged.

Finally, after Runco clarified that he wasn’t using this process, Il Fenomeno returned to the peninsula and is nearing a long-awaited return to the pitch.

“It’s not my job to discuss our injured players and I’m certainly not trying to stir controversy, but he seems fine to me,” Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani told reporters.

“Over the last week he has successfully completed all the rehabilitation exercises and I expect him to return soon.”

Georgian stopper Kaladze is set to take Ronaldo’s place on the treatment table after limping off in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Catania.

The 29-year-old’s groin injury is sufficiently serious to keep him out of action for at least a month and he may not pull on the shirt until the Diavolo’s Week 11 fixture against Torino.

We talk about a comeback and when he'll be ready to play, how many games should he play. This guy is a good striker but he will be a good customer for milanlab.

He is the Sheva equal and you need a player like him in front, someone who can handle the pressure.

Yes when he plays he's as good as Sheva (in his prime he was surely better) but we have not replaced Shevchenko with Ronaldo in any way... Sheva was not quite as fragile... we miss his 20+ goals per season!! Damn it we should have replaced him already!!! mad.gif
Rossoneri7
I know .. But he is Sheva's equal nonetheless ...

Fragile? He suffered a lot after that horrendous injury (@inter) ... But even so, his experience and sense of direction, I mean that is something valuable. We truly have a jewel of a player, who was unfortunately in rehab and now on his way back to training.

I think Ronaldo can score give or take 20 goals this season king.gif I really do.

I mean look at how Milan brought Pippo back after 2 yrs of absence .. After all he is Ronaldo, the one and only Ronaldo that is wink.gif
dst
He just can't produce 20 goals cause he can't play a full season without any injuries... in my opinion we never replaced Sheva!
Rossoneri7
We'll see in May if you still feel the same way

I wish I won't but I know I will...

We haven't disagreed for a long time have we? But for me, it's Pato and not Ronaldo to take Sheva's place in the larger scheme of things.

There are a lot of similarities, both from lesser known clubs, beating off competition, reputation more than money playing it's part in them coming to Milan. And of course, Silvio's insistence on both. Not to mention, they were both 17 when they came in right?

And they are both gonna start in apprenticeship under two great forwards. I even half believe that this was one reason Ronaldo was brought in.

Nope not for a long time biggrin.gif

Well, u see, when Sheva left Milan .. He left a HUGE gap to fill. No player can step up and fill that void. When Ronaldo came, you could clearly see that our game was more fluid and more concrete, thus that void was filled.

Sheva's equal doesn't mean that someone has to start his career the way Sheva did at Milan (no he was a bit older and a bit more experienced when he came to Milan..) ... They meant to keep the team moving the way it did by bringing in someone who can fill in his shoes. Someone with experience, a star, a protagonist, etc ..

Pato getting the number 7 shirt means that he will be taking over the reigns from Shevchenko. That will be a HUGE obstacle for him to takle. Oliveira couldn't do it, let's hope our new wonder kid can wink.gif But to call him Sheva's equal, I mean, he has yet to prove himself. But yes, Ronaldo is supposed to keep tabs on him and take him under his wing, that is how it looks like (as Rui did to Kaka').

R7 has a point,..

Pato is 17, Sheva was 21/22. He allready played in the CL and for the NT. But yes, the situation was very near to the one we have now. Weah past his prime a bit but still was dangerous and Bierhoff, well he is a special one. So, Pato has the same conditions that Andrij had,..

But Ronaldo, when able to play, is the equal. He is the one that did not needed any time to read our playing style or to settle down. He just came and started o score. Sadly he got injuried, but he allready made about 100 comebacks, so,.. devil.gif

Sheva was 2 month before his 24 birthday, already took Dinamo kiev once to the 1/4 and another time to the 1/2 of the CL, had already over 20 goals in the CL (plus voted the best striker and was the best scorer in 98-99 season), and was the leader of his NT. Pato came when he's 17, so there's a difference. Whether he can be what Sheva was for us is remains to be seen. He would have plenty of chances to prove himself.

It seems to me that you're trying as hard as you can to be incomprehensible... How can you say Ronaldo is Sheva's equal when at the same time you agree on that Sheva was, when at Milan, the best there was!???!

And how can you claim we have found Sheva's equal when there's nothing you can back it up with!?? To be Sheva's equal you have to be equal at everything!! Goals, assists, passes, .... every little or big thing! Ronaldo has not even had one full season with us and you say he's Sheva's equal...
Rossoneri7
Do u remember when Sheva left they said they were gonna find an equal ?! unsure.gif

That is what I meant rolleyes.gif

Not literally an equal. But someone who can fill the void.

p.s. to me Sheva was the best ever. But Ronaldo is a phenomenon and say whatever u want, he is qualified to take his place .. Back up Ronaldo?! I have his career for u to look at (Still who did I prefer .. Sheva).

Friday test with Athletic Bilbao

October 8, 2007 - The Milan friendly faces in the Athletic Bilbao on Friday evening at 20.45, in Spain. The company has formalized the red on its website. For Ancelotti will be an opportunity to see yet tested Pato and perhaps even for review in Ronaldo

I'm not entirely sure he'll play Friday.

He's still training apart from the group (though he IS training and not doing physiotherapy).

In the 'good news' department, Maldini IS training with the group. smile.gif

On Ronaldo's weight

I have just recently heard of the reason behind his weight gain from a friend (merda) who followed the Brazilian forwards career for sometime now.

When Ronaldo got that horrendous knee twist, he was considered finished! As one of the doctors that operated on him, told him that you are finished just like Van Basten was finished !!

He was then, by the help of Massimo Moratti, sent to an American specialist doctor in the states who brought Ronaldo back to the playing fields. He advised Ronaldo to put weight on, because his speed was the main reason for his accident (he would run lightening fast, then in a an instant halt). The doctor told him that with a weight gain, he wont be as fast as he used to be and thus he wouldn't put so much pressure on his knees and is able to continue his career.

p.s. this isn't me, this is a merda friend whom followed Ronnie's career. And in all honesty it makes perfect sense as to why he gained weight.
HasanHasanly
Wouldnt putting more weight put more pressure on the knees, due to thee simple fact that those same knees would need to carry a heavy weight?

Of course that is also a case for discussion on the subject.

But the ultimate thing that keeps him playing is that he isn't running as fast as he was, which refrains him from "running lightening fast then halting in an instant" ..

I'd be wary about what your friend's smoking, R7. Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me -- unless said friend has medical records and the like.
