If I were in your shoes, I'd be more disappointed if he announced he was retiring. Besides, he could've done a lot worse than Corinthians; just be thankful he didn't go to Anorthosis or the like.

Yeah, I suppose. king.gif

Ronaldo Explains Corinthians Choice And Flamengo Snub
The Brazilian legend has reacted to the major uproar his move to Corinthians has caused...

Corinthians striker Ronaldo has explained his decision to snub Flamengo after fans went berserk.

The Brazilian joined the Sao Paulo-based side on Tuesday but not everyone has reacted well to his decision. The former Inter, Real Madrid and Milan striker knows why Flamengo fans feel aggrieved with his choice.

"I understand why the fans are upset," Ronaldo is quoted as saying on Datasport.it.

"I am a Flamenguista and I was at Rio for four months where I trained. However, no-one had a project for me. I am a professional and I like new challenges.

"Returning to the football pitch is a great motivation for me.

"When I played for Cruziero I was very young and now playing in the Brazilian league will be completely different.

"I have watched games on tv and now there is a chance to make some history. I won't make any predictions but I do have the will to do well."

Earlier, Flamengo fans were so annoyed with Ronaldo's move that they threatened to use a voodoo witch to cast a spell on the star.

Jerseys and photographs of the striker were also burned- such is the outrage in Brazil.

Ronaldo Makes Lively Corinthians Debut

The Phenomenon looked very sharp and even came close to getting on the score-sheet in his first appearance for his new club...

After more than a one-year injury layoff, Ronaldo finally returned to action with his Corinthians, for whom he signed in December.

The 32-year-old may have only played 29 minutes, but he looked very lively and even came close to finding the net.

He replaced Jorge Henrique in the 21st minute of the second half, and moments later he had his first touch of the ball.

The excited crowd at the Juscelino Kubitschek stadium in Itumbiara roared each time Ronaldo came close to the ball, and the former FIFA World Player of the Year tried to impress them with some of his trademark trickery.

He showed no signs of an injury, although it was evident that he was lacking the necessary fitness to play a competitive football match.

But Ronaldo constantly asked for the ball, and instead of passing as soon as he got it, he preferred to take on his opponents - and with good results.

Towards the end of the match, Ronaldo looked to mark his debut with a goal.

He fired a long-range effort wide of the right post, and minutes later he forced his way into the area, but was penalised for pushing.

The former Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan striker was without doubt the main focus of attention in a match that Corinthians won 2-0. The match corresponded to the first round of the Copa do Brasil.

At the final whistle several excited reporters mobbed Ronaldo, and he was hurt in the process. He quickly made his way into the tunnel while touching his sore head.

Ronaldo is likely to start for the first time in the top-of-the-table Paulista derby with Palmeiras on the weekend.

Dunga opens Brazil door for Ronaldo

SAO PAULO -- Brazil coach Dunga says he will summon Ronaldo if the striker returns to top form.

Dunga praised Ronaldo for his return to football more than a year after knee surgery, saying the striker will have his spot in the squad secured if he plays well again.

"If he becomes the Ronaldo of old, why not?" Dunga told Cultura TV late Monday.

Ronaldo returned to action last Wednesday playing 28 minutes for Corinthians in a Brazilian Cup match. On Sunday, he scored a late equalizer after 31 minutes on the field against Palmeiras. It was his first goal since the left knee injury while with AC Milan in February 2008.

Dunga said it's natural Ronaldo was far from his best after more than a year out of action, but liked the way he performed in his first two matches.

"He has the will to become the great player that he once was," Dunga said. "He feels pleasure playing football."

Dunga and Ronaldo were teammates in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups.

The 32-year-old Ronaldo told SporTV channel on Monday that his goal was to return to the national team, but that he feels he has enemies in the Brazilian football federation.

Ronaldo was never recalled to the national team once Dunga replaced Carlos Alberto Parreira after Brazil's elimination in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The president of the Brazilian federation dismissed any animosity against Ronaldo.

"There is no veto," Ricardo Teixeira said Tuesday. "If Ronaldo becomes the player he was in the 2002 World Cup, he has the chance to return to the national team and play in the 2010 World Cup."

Ronaldo, the all-time leading World Cup scorer with 15 goals, helped Brazil win its fifth world title in 2002 in South Korea and Japan with two of his eight goals coming in the final against Germany.

Ronaldo's return to action has been praised across Brazil, including President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

"He wasn't 100 per cent ready, played five minutes, got five balls and was still better than everybody else," Silva said, according to the Folha Online website.

So in other words we'll never see Ronaldo in the Selecao again, because no matter how phenomenal, he won't be able to become the player he was in 2002 again.

I think Ronaldo is such a media-personality, he'd earn probably more by not playing and doing marketing/promotive jobs then training, playing and still actively participate in any football league.

It's called greed, alot of people have it. The more you have, the more you want. Why else do these players take up sponsorship deals with Adidas and Nike when they're already earning millions at their clubs.

His lifestyle suggests otherwise. I can count on one finger how many times Beckham has been in trouble in the media due to his off-field actions. Like James Milner said in an interview last week "I am 100% dedicated to football and improving myself, there's more than enough time for drinking and enjoying my life when I retire". I believe this is the type of attitude Beckham also has.
Zed.D
Well, I still disagree because I don't see Ronaldo in any way as a greedy footballer who doesn't care about football! watching his recent goals and the passion in his celebrations is more than enough reason for me to believe he loves football.

Corinthians Star Ronaldo Piles On The Pounds & Admits He Is Overweight
The forward's dismal physical condition rules him out of Corinthians' next game, despite a full recovery from his previous injury...

By Daniel Edwards
Aug 13, 2010 6:31:00 PM

Brazilian football legend Ronaldo has recovered from a leg injury, which ruled him out for the past three months, but the striker admits that the excess weight he gained during his recuperation period will keep him out of the Corinthians team for even longer.

Ronaldo is currently at least three stone overweight after sustaining a muscle injury in his left leg, and Globoesporte reports that after rejoining team preparations, the former Barcelona, Inter and Selecao star could not even train on Friday due to his awful physical condition.

And the striker today admitted via his twitter page that his fans would have to stay patient if they wanted to see him back in action.

"Yesterday was my first team training for three months. It was ok, I am weighing too much and am struggling with my mobility. In about 15 days I'll be fine," he posted on the social networking site.

Ronaldo has not played a competitive game since May 9, when he scored a goal in a 2-1 win over Atletico PR in the league's first round of fixtures.
