Rino trusts in Milan mentality

Milan midfield dynamo Gennaro Gattuso believes that Milan’s secret weapon for success in Europe lies in the spirit in the dressing room.

The Rossoneri start their defence of the European throne against Benfica at the San Siro on Tuesday evening.

After having to settle for a point against Siena last weekend there is a feeling in the peninsula that the Diavolo may struggle against the Portuguese giants, but Gattuso tells a different story.

“The key lies in the dressing room and that’s no big secret,” he told Spanish newspaper El Pais.

“When you see someone like Paolo Maldini who at 39-years-old can play in a Champions League Final and give blood, sweat and tears to the caiuse you’d be an idiot not to see how he is an inspiration.

“Then there’s Clarence Seedorf who has won four Champions League titles with three different sides, but I saw him cry with the emotion of winning last year’s semi-final against Manchester United.

“We are the kind of club that finds motivation in the hardest times and has winning in our DNA, Silvio Berlusconi has seen to that.”

As for his own role, the ex-Rangers man was typically modest as he described the pugnacious spirit that has defined his career.

“At times I look at my feet and curse them as they never gave me any joy,” he chuckled. “I’m always telling Carlo Ancelotti to imagine what I’d be like if I had silky skills – we wouldn’t have space for the trophies!

“There are players like Kaka who are born as stars and then men like me who have to build a career from endless passion.”

Andrea Pirlo is set to overcome injury problems to feature against Benfica, but Ronaldo’s absence limits the attacking options to just Alberto Gilardino and Pippo Inzaghi.

Milan squad: Dida, Kalac; Bonera, Cafu, Favalli, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Nesta, Oddo, Simic; Ambrosini, Brocchi, Gattuso, Emerson, Gourcuff, Kaka, Pirlo, Seedorf; Gilardino, Inzaghi

He is the best and most complete DMF I've ever seen play but still, he wasn't as creative as Pirlo is! Pirlo is unique, a no.10 in a deep position! Both spectacular!!!

I love that quote from Rino, thanks rb!

Gattuso returns to Rangers Friday 28 December, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gennaro Gattuso has found an unusual way to spend his winter holidays. While teammates have flown to Florida for a warm Christmas, he has returned to Scotland to train with Rangers.

The Milan midfielder, who played for the Ibrox outfit in 1997-98, is in Glasgow to visit the family of his wife Monica and has been allowed to train with the Scottish team, and will do so until his return to Italy next week.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder has previously stated that he would like to play once again with Rangers before the end of his career.

The Rossoneri fly to Dubai on January 2, where they will resume training and play a friendly match.

Meanwhile, Milan agent Leonardo is trying to sort out some problems with the contract of Alexandre Pato.

The Brazilian youth should make his debut with the Rossoneri on January 13 against Napoli, but his contract hasn’t yet been given to the Lega Calcio.

The Milanisti could hand in the contract on the January 4, but the Brazilian Federation may make them wait. If so, Pato would have to wait one more week before kicking his first ball at San Siro.

I got this link from the Rangers Website aswell

So in the 'today's training' article on acmilan.com's Italian page, there was an interesting little postscript:

RINO GATTUSO TOOK PART IN THE ENTIRE TRAINING SESSION WITH THE TEAM.

Who needs Superman when we have Rino?

Forza Gattuso! devilsmiley.gif devilsmiley.gif

One of his worst seasons, if not his worst. He's a disaster. I hear people talking bad about the way Ambrosini plays, but some has to say it - Rino is terrible this season. Terrible.

acid911
Rino is terrible this season. sad.gif Yes, he is, both when considering the 2006/07 season and his own high standards. Him and Pirlo have wired timings to get out out form, and the worse part is that both are out of touch at the same time. We keep loosing balls and passes in the midfield regularly, and it has come back to haunt us more than once.
dst
It's only normal in my opinion he runs (I mean running not distance covering) more than anyone else in the squad and he has rarely been changed in the past 3 seasons... he has played till two CL finals one semi-final, a WC final, ... who in Europe has played more games than him?
I_Rossoneri
It all boils down to the fact that we haven't strengthened in previous seasons when we should have, and now we haven't got adequate replacements for our first team.

In the summer we need quality young replacements for Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf and Rino as well as a quality first choice keeper and possibly another forward. and that is without covering the players we will lose who are out of contract.
kurtsimonw
Yep, we need to get him a backup. He really has been terrible this season, by far the biggest disappointment in our squad, in my opinion.
Fillipo Simone
Apart from being "just tired", he turned 30, did he? Loosing pace,..I wonder...are we loosing a good/great player?

He was still great a year ago... I don't think the change can be so drastic... but yeah considering his non-stop running and marking is his greater quality as a player, he will become less effective year by year... sleep.gif
bigmacmtl
this is what scares me about this team.

instead of looking for a potential replacement/sub for gattuso they'll wait for another 3-4 years until he's complete shite to even consider benching him.

we should have got a like for like sheva replacement when he left but still dont have it.

we needed a quality creative mid replacement for rui when he left, still dont have it.

and now other problems like pirlo and gattuso getting older are creeping up and we havent even delt witht he problems we have right now.

i mean we arent in a terrible situation, but at the rate our management our dealing with prbolems we are going to be soo fcked couple of years down the road....

Galliani: "Gattuso hasn't asked me for a transfer, and there are no problems!"

Adriano Galliani talked about the rumors that have surfaced about the possibility of Milan's midfield dynamo, Gattuso, leaving.

Galliani told SKY: "I don't know if he is having problems with any member of the team. But for sure he doesn't have any problems with me, the president, or any of his team mates. Also, he hasn't asked me for a transfer and I am positive that he would never ask for such a thing. Milan's champions will remain at the club, be that in good circumstances or bad circumstances."

Galliani: "I had stated that Kaka' wont leave, and that happened, now I'm telling you Gattuso wont leave."

We can't forget the conflict that happened between Milan and Madrid last season, about the fabricated transfer agreement between Kaka' and Madrid that was orchestrated by the Spanish news.

And with the rumors of Gattuso now moving away from Milan, Galliani stands up, the same way he did for Kaka'. Milan's general manager who know takes the reigns of the club after Berlusconi won the elections: "Again I will concur that Gennaro Ivan Gattuso will remain with Milan, he is not one of the players who are available for sale as his long contract stresses. At the end of the season we will meet with him and his representatives. The Milan tifosi can all but rest assured that Gattuso is not going anywhere, just how I assured about Kaka' not going anywhere."

He continued: " Gattuso hasn't and wont ask for a transfer. It is true that we will bring in a midfielder, but that will not be at the expense of Gattuso, he is an integral part of this team."

His agent: "Without a doubt RIngo's desire is to remain with Milan"

Ringo Gattuso is a name that has been in the Italian press for quit sometime and it is also linked with a move to England or Germany. But his agent, Claudio Pasqualin has confirmed that Ringo's desire is to remain with Milan.

Pasqualin told radio "Kiss Kiss Napoli" : "Ringo i a Rossonero and wants to remain Rossonero. We will meet with the Milan management within the coming month, as we need a few confirmations. But the there is no doubt in that RIngo wants to remain at Milan. At any rate, we will need to talk to the club and then see."

He talked about Ronaldinho and his imminent arrival: "I think that what Barca are asking for is an exaggerated number. Milan seem to be on course to finish up all their transfer negotiations ohmy.gif  And I am sure it will go through, because no other team has followed Ronaldinho the way that Milan have."

Ole Hones (Spell) Manager of Bayern Munich had confirmed that there was contact between Bayern and Milan over the sale of Gattuso, but Milan were made it too difficult for them to negotiate.

Ole Hones said of their interest in Gattuso: "It's real, we tried until the end, But we weren't able to take him, the reason ? Milan wrote down a number that was too much, actually more than that!"

I think he'll struggle to ever be a permanent captain, as he's not much younger than Ambro. But he'll captain the side ever now and then when Ambro isn't playing/subbed off.
