Gattuso fractures wrist in fall! Sunday 7 September, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another bizarre injury has struck the Azzurri, as Gennaro Gattuso fell into the dug-out and broke his wrist!
The Milan midfielder was taking part in a friendly run-out with the Beretti team of unemployed players at the Gradisca d’Isonzo training ground this afternoon.
He tumbled into the dug-out where the Italian bench was placed, hitting his head and left wrist.
Gattuso has been taken to hospital for X-Rays, as the initial diagnosis is a fractured wrist that could well require surgical intervention.
Even if it is only a bad knock, it is likely that will rule him out of Wednesday’s encounter with Georgia.
It is the latest odd injury to strike the Italy squad during these 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Fabio Grosso fractured two ribs during a fall in the 2-1 win in Cyprus last night and Alessandro Gamberini dislocated his right shoulder just 60 seconds into the same match.
Gamberini’s shoulder was in such a bad state that he had to be put under general anaesthetic in the local hospital for medics to pop it back into place.

I hope Rino recovers soon!
That said, the fact that we've got Flamini (who hopefully won't get hurt playing for France) doesn't exactly leave a huge gaping hole in the center of midfield the way Rino's injury would've done last year.

Same here, I feel there wont be that big of a hole to fill by either Ambro or Flamini, but Milan would be lacking heart in the middle of the pitch, the tenaciousness

But anyways seriously... who knows about Gattuso... he's a very fast healer, and he could be back by the time of the Milan-Merda derby... besides that we're pretty well covered in that position... with Flamini... I'm glad we kept Gattuso instead of selling him... he could be important for Flamini's further development as a player.

I've seen the 'he heals fast' thing repeated several times. It's true, but broken bones are a little different from soft tissue injuries. Therefore, I'm far from certain that Gattuso will be back in time for the derby - and I think it'd be unwise to rush his return, given that we've got cover for the position.

Exactly what I've been thinking while seeing all the fast healer comments.
Broken bones, especially like the ones Rino broke in his hands have nothing to do with the player's ability to make a quick recovery, this isn't some muscular injury that he can recover through by working hard in physio therapy.

Looking at it that way, it does seem like he got out of it lucky.
Why is the dug out like that? It's unsafe. Gattuso was running backwards probably to get back into position or recieve the ball and he fell in, that could happen to anybody. Those dugouts should be level with the playing surface

I think the pitch was that of a training ground surface, and considering Milanello doesn't have those dug outs, I guess he grew a bit more confident in backing into things

Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho has mocked the return from injury of AC Milan's Rino Gattuso.
Ahead of next week's big derby, Mourinho sarcastically said: “Dejan Stankovic can recover before the derby and should already be in the side on Wednesday against Lecce.
“I like telling it like it is and giving out the correct predicted recovery times for players. Others prefer to suggest far longer lay-offs so it’s all wonderful and marvellous when someone manages to return ‘ahead’ of schedule.”
Gattuso suffered multiple fractures to his hand and wrist when accidentally falling into the dug-out during an Italy training ground test at Gradisca d’Isonzo, but he was back for Milan's victory over Lazio last night.

I mean honestly, sometimes he ought to just keep quiet.

I think he's saying clubs over-estimate injuries, so when players come back the fans are like "Wow, this is great news". If they gave a true estimate, and they came back a week later, the fans would probably complain.
