Umm..what?

QUOTE
Clarence Seedorf is facing a suspension of up to 12 matches in Brazil after being red carded for leaving the field the wrong way following a substitution in the Rio de Janeiro state championship last weekend.

Brazil's sports tribunal charged the Dutch midfielder with unethical behavior and being disrespectful to the referee during the incident in Botafogo's 2-1 win over Madureira on Sunday.

Seedorf was heading toward Botafogo's bench in stoppage time when the referee stopped him and pointed toward the nearest sideline to save time, but Seedorf refused and left the other way.

Referee Philip Georg Bennet said in his post-match report that Seedorf called his decision a joke, and that the player said he would leave "anywhere he wanted."

I saw the incident, Seedorf acted like a douche.

I don't get what happened. so there was a substitution right? why should seedorf leave through the nearest sideline? unsure.gif

Seedorf isn't totally innocent, he should have obeyed. But this is a typical southamerican thing with the refs who think they're gods or showmen. Idiotic. The referee should get a ban.
acid911
Oh, I have so much to say on this, but I'd rather not. happy.gif A lot of it you guys have posted above, but really, it will be quite interesting to see how many matches he gets banned for. And for the record, this is not the first time Seedorf has done this, he has this uncanny habbit of blabbering at substitutions.

I still remember all he shenanigans here when Carlo and company subbed him off during matches.
X-Offender
Seedorf has an awful superiority complex. Sure, he's been one of the greats of the last 10-15 years, but sometimes his behavior gets on my nerves. One of the reasons why I wanted him out, besides being half a player for years now.
servbot
I could understand the red card for dissent, but 12 games? People throw elbows and try to injure other players and get 3 or 4 games in most leagues.
X-Offender
Yeah, 12 games is crazy.
han2503
Come on! He shouldn't get a red for anything. The ref is the douche in this scenario. Look at the way he ran after him to give him the red. So ridiculous, and since when does a ref dictate on which side you leave the pitch?

If he gets banned for even just 1 game, let alone 12, it would be one of the most ridiculous bans I've ever seen in football.

Football makes you laugh sometimes.

Racism is a smaller fine that taking your shirt off.
Racism is the same length of ban as leaving the pitch on the wrong side.

The ref is obviously being a ****. It happened to Villa recently where a player left at the wrong side of the pitch because he'd twisted his ankle and instead of wasting time hobbline to the other end, he just went off where he was. Nobody cared. This ref is obviously one of those that thinks he should be the centre of attention. What a ****.

+∞ wink.gif The referee may be an idiota, say all what you want about him, but we probably would not be talking about this had Seedorf not pulled off the attitude he did. In fact, I may even go as far to say that this was a complete opposite of what one would expect a sportsman (of his caliber, at that) do. Childish and juvenile, and utter disgraceful.

The rules are in place (not talking about which side of the pitch to go off), the general rules, a code of conduct. Imagine if each and every player were doing this, where would that leave the sports off.

Seedorf: "The reason I left Milan was because of Allegri. We didn't have a good relationship. He would play me for important games and then bench me for the rest. That didn't work for me. I was used to always playing. Staying out, the rest of the world thought I wasn't physically fit. However, to stay in top form, even if you're not young anymore, you must continuously play. Giggs and Scholes are good examples. But Allegri wouldn't permit this, which was a shame"

For once I'm with Allegri on this one. Playing Seedorf in every game? Oh, the horror...
dst
He mentions Giggs and Scholes so I don't think he was looking for a starter role. I would not mind him coming off the bench.
han2503
But he did look to him in the major games, and I agree with Seedorf. You can't sit on a bench for 4 weeks and then come on against Barca and be at your best
kurtsimonw
And you can't play every game when you only can be bothered in the major ones.

Clarence has made a bit of a faux pas here. He just sounds bitter and wants to blame someone for his Milan career ending. Because, lest we forget, he did NOT play every match under Carlo either. Or Leo.

He was always used sparingly. Particularly in the latter 4 years of his Milan career.

Under Carlo? Seedorf was probably the first name on the team sheet under Carlo, and he was used a lot with Leo as well.

I think first season under Allegri he was used sparingly, 2nd season a bit more then that but still not a full regular. Let's not forget that Allegri preferred to go out in games using 3 DMs. Remember the VB, Nocerino, Ambro mids we were treated to?

Seedorf has part of the blame, definitely as kurt said, in the league he played like he couldn't give 2 sh!ts about anything so expecting to play consistently is just ridiculous

I'm lost. The first part of your post disputes me, but then the second part agrees with Kurt. And he and I are saying the same thing.

Seedorf wasn't a regular starter in the last 6 years under any manager and that's a fact. As he got older he played less. 2008/09 was the last season he started 30 times in the league. It just went down after that as he aged, manager irrelevant.

He wasn't the first name on Carlo's sheet, c'mon!

Under Carlo he wasn't a regular? I think you remember a completely different Milan because Seedorf was a Carlo favourite, and we all complained about it here. If he wasn't playing then it was because he was injured.

Think back, we played a 4-3-2-1 under Carlo in his final 3 seasons or so, Kaka and Seedorf behind Gila/Pato/Pippo, that's how we went out in every game

I didn't say he was a regular with either Leo or Allegri

Also, what you and kurt are saying is completely different. Kurt is saying that a player cannot expect to play like he doesn't give a sh!t and be given a starting spot each time, what you're saying is that Seedorf hadn't been a regular at Milan well before Allegri came into the picture, which imo is not correct, because he was a regular under Carlo, and that includes every year that he coached us. Seedorf was always a hugely important part of his system, no matter how crappy he played at times

I remember at the end it seemed like the only thing he still cared to do was hold possession and pass backwards. He never lost his close control and ability to shield the ball with his body but he rarely showed any fire to press the ball forward. Basically only useful when trying to kill off games.

Seedorf: "I want to become the best coach in the world. I want to start from scratch and build a whole new career. My model? Phil Jackson, even though he has nothing to do with football. I have an appointment with him. He accepted my request of meeting him and talk. He's someone who Michael Jordan meditated with. He managed to make some of the best players in the world accept spiritual values. It was a special group that managed to beat opponents like Lakers, Boston and Utah"

So, yesterday was the last week of the Brazilian Serie A. Botafogo managed to win 3-0 and qualify for next season's Libertadores Cup. Seedorf scored the third goal, and after the game started crying.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was his last game as a football player. Given his previous declarations, the guy wants to become a coach, and he's Berlusconi's first choice for Milan's bench next season. The guy has about 6-7 months to get the coach's license and prepare.
Jack Sparrow
He needs to work with the youth setup. But then there is Pippo already. Can two tigers live on the same mountain?

If we move Zee directly to head coach, what message does it send to Pippo?

The 'right thing' to do would be to promote Pippo to head coach and Zee into Pippo's place. Screw what Brocchi thinks. But then where is the future for Zee. He won't accept anything less than head coach position.

It's not said that Pippo has to coach the senior team at all cost. After he gets the necessary experience, he can go coach somewhere else. That said, he's my first choice rather than Seedorf.
Jack Sparrow
Exactly. It's tough for me coz I loved both of them in our colours. But as a person I would think Pippo would just be the nicer person.

Zee is cerebral. He'd be a great coach I think.

What would be great is if both of them were willing to work together as coach and assistant without any egos.

I think he does both. (maybe at the same time?) He's well known, at least here in Chicago, for his practice of Zen Buddhism. He's written several books, but the one I've read, called Sacred Hoops, talks especially about the first Bulls years, and how he got the players to buy into some of his Zen Buddhist practices. Fascinating book, well worth the read even for those who aren't basketball fans.

If Seedorf wants to pick his brain for ideas, that tells me good things about the effort Seedorf plans to put into his coaching career.

Absolutely. laugh.gif And that's why I don't want either of them around. Find an outsider, that is a real coach. And then get him the require players, give him time, and we should be back to where we were. Heck, I'd rather see Ancelotti as coach than both Seedorf and Inzaghi. Both were immense players, but both were full of themselves.

Seedorf the bigger culprit here, and the last thing we need is sticky situations on our hand due to the coach.
