ADRIANO GALLIANI said that four players from the Primavera squad of Giovanni Stroppa will join the first team next season. The youngsters in question are defender Michelangelo Albertazzi, midfielder Rodney Strasser, and forwards Nnamdi Oduamadi and Simone Verdi. They are key players of the Primavera squad who won the TIM Cup and progressed into the Final Eight of the Campionato Primavera with a great comeback victory. Their inclusion in the first team, as mentioned by the CEO, will bring freshness to an aged squad eager in recent years of young talent.
Albertazzi, central defender or full back, will definitely bring new life to the Rossoneri defense. He has yet to make his debut for the first team, though he has been called-up to the bench a number of times by former coach Leonardo. A season spent on the bench would not be good for a guy in need of playing time as much as possible. He must therefore agree with the project next AC Milan coach, so that he won’t be used solely for Coppa Italia games.
The same applies for Verdi and Oduamadi. The Nigerian, who debuted on the Derby della Madonnina on 26 July 2009, appears ready in the physical side but, nevertheless, find himself behind superstars such as Ronaldinho and Pato. He has shown great skill and a great eye for goal in his matches for the Primavera squad, though, and will surely be given playing time in the next season.
Regarding Verdi, perhaps the most talented in Stroppa’s squad, needs to gain weight, is still a bit too thin and light for the physicality of the Serie A. He made his debut in the Coppa Italia match against Novara on 13 January 2010.
Both could be important to the coming seasons, experiencing the “bigs” and may even surprise some of the skeptics. Despite their inexperience, the pair may make Milan regret signing Amantino Mancini, who arrived on loan from arch-rivals Inter and never excelled in his time with il Diavolo. Unconsciousness and the freshness, time and again, can be absolutely critical.
Strasser, physically and mentally, is more than ready to take the big step: not only more sophisticated in interdiction, but also greatly improved in terms of vision and the assists. The midfielder from Freetown, Sierra Leone, who made his debut in the Serie A match against Udinese on 21 December 2008, can provide fresh forces in a much experienced department, like the Milan midfield.
In conclusion, however, we must reiterate that the “Fantastic 4″, while bringing new life to Milan, should not be the only reinforcement for the next recruitment drive is not enough to bring the Devil to success.
