Nice, I love this stuff.

A friend of mine has a Nesta's Lazio banner signed by the whole team... lucky *******! dry.gif

Yes, very lucky!

So Platini says the Euros may be a continental event in the future. I think it's a bad idea. I like a country getting to host, it makes it special for them and in theory is going to be good for them with all the tourism. People I know that've been always have great stories about being in a square with 5,000 other England fans, or mixing with the hosts or other teams fans and how much of a great experience it is - you would lose that.

FIFA OK goal-line technology
By Football Italia staff

The International Football Association Board have voted in favour of FIFA introducing goal-line technology into the game of football.

The IFAB, the body that determines the laws of the game, met today to discuss the implementation of two specific technologies to aid match officials in determining goal-line decisions.

A number of high-profile cases have hit the sport in recent years, including Frank Lampard’s incorrectly disallowed goal for England against Germany at the 2010 World Cup, Ukraine’s incorrectly disallowed goal against England during Euro 2012 and, at club level, Sulley Muntari’s incorrectly disallowed goal for Milan against Juventus last season.

FIFA are now in support of assisting their referees with technology and its ratification from the IFAB means that the governing body can now consider which of two systems - Hawk-Eye and GoalRef - to progress forwards with.

Technology could begin to be implemented in stadiums as soon as the start of the calendar year of 2013.

Finally.

Oh look, England benefit (well, we didn't really) and they want to push it through.

If you need anything in football, just get England to benefit from it. smile.gif

You just can't be satisfied, can you?

Oh god biggrin.gif

I have no problem if a players jumps in the air/dives to avoid getting kicked, after all not all fouls necessarily need a contact, but what's with them faking being in pain/injured?

One lie let to another. If you gonna dive, you better fake the pain as well, to make it seem real.

And you gotta respect the players their reasons for it. There is high pressure in football, one goal more or less, one win more or less, it can change your career.

Santos were only leading with 3-0, 22 minutes to go. That was a great spot to get a free-kick, and have the other get a red card (shame only yellow), to ensure the win.

I mean, if a player choose to put on such discrage, at least let it be worth it. Players are way too much used to do stuff like this, they forgot why and when it may be a good idea doing it, and when it simply is stupid.

Now the whole world can see him doing this. For what?
kurtsimonw
The issue with diving for me is that players who do everything they can NOT to go down, never get rewarded.
dst
Who are these players and how could they be awarded? In my view, there should be no award for that, it's what should happen anyway. Divers should be heavily punished instead.

It happens all the time. Though this is one that always stands out for me (the run at the start of the video).

No diving - no reward

He could easily have gone down numerous times. The last guy to try and tackle him makes a wreckless attempt to foul him and had he gone down, it would've likely been a penalty. Instead he stays up and tries to make a last effort on the ball.

To me it's still a foul really, just because you try hard to stay on your feet you shouldn't not get anything, there's no advantage.

I've never understood why the leagues can't/don't go back to video replay after a match and assess cards/suspensions/fines for blatant dives like this one. The ref shouldn't have to have seen it for a punishment to be levied.

At the risk of being criticised, sometimes when the word 'loyalty' is thrown around it makes me laugh. Ryan Giggs has earned a fortune playing for United, winning everything multiple times in the proccess - is that necessarily loyalty?

Totti and Gerrard of those are the most loyal given their teams fortunes, but even then they won a lot.

People like Matt Le Tissier who didn't earn a tonne and played for a team who won nothing, for his entire career despite interest from much bigger clubs are better fitting for the word.

Not sure Mandzukic/Ramirez/Asamoah should be above Maicon and Kagawa.

Leaving out Kagawa for examp., doesn't make any sense to me.

Except for the top 3 or so, it looks random.

And now Serbia's most famous sporting hero Jaric has waded into the row, raking up Britain's centuries-old links to the slave trade, which was officially abolished in 1833.

'Could Englishmen teach us about human rights? They invented hooliganism and slavery. Shame on us if they can teach us anything,' he tweeted.

blink.gif

Pretty sure nobody from the slave era is ailve anymore, it's stupid that people should be punished for something they haven't done. And where does this myth that we invented the slave trade come from? We originally bought our slaves from Africa from their owners.

Maybe his black teammate Luol Deng needs to remind him how much good the British have also done in the recent past. Or he needs to remember where he is, there's little chance the US is the way it is without British intervention.

Or he just needs to be asked what he thinks of Genocide, being a Serb and all...
Fillipo Simone
Hmh, I'll respond to you questions Kurt, just need time to make a plausible argument.

But in the meantime something very random...it occurred to me that especially Brazilian players playing in the Bundesliga get often surpassed by their NT coaches. Obviously, Ze Roberto and Lucio are more or less exemptions, but one has to note players like Elber, Paulo Sergio, Augusto or Dante. Is something to it or just a coincidence?
kurtsimonw
Dante has never played for Brazil!? That one really surprised me.

Kolorov to be questioned over racism allegation

Ah, politics in football..

QUOTE
It is understood 27-year-old Serbia international Kolarov became involved in a lengthy exchange with a supporter carrying an Albania flag as he warmed up on the sideline during the game.

There is a long history of tension between Serbia and Albania, particularly over the disputed Kosovo region.

Have you noticed, that if you check which Brazilian player scored more goals in all clubs from 5 major european leagues - the answer would be Hernanes from Lazio with only 7. Pretty amazing stat considerig how much talent they had over here in not so distant past.
Fillipo Simone
It also tells you the level of crisis Brazilian football is going through at the moment.
kurtsimonw
Surprisingly, their biggest strength is possibly their defence at the moment.
Fillipo Simone
Yep. But it's also not as strong as it could have been, since Cesar, Maicon and a few others deteriorated.
