Yup. smile.gif For all we know, it could have been an empty coffin. Unless they opened and showed the contents inside to the media. Still this is the last thing I would have expected to see in a football match. Scooters and chairs, I have in San Siro.
kurtsimonw
Not strictly football, but thought it would interest some of you. Milan are in 14th.

Top 200 highest paying teams

Now I can see why Randy was pissed at MON. 5th highest paying team in the EPL? Jesus Christ. Says alot when we're paying out the same as the Knicks!
Jack Sparrow
Anyone noticed the IPL teams in Kurt's list??!! The Royal Challengers Bangalore, The Kolkata Knight Riders etc??

At least with football you can say it's one whole year. But the IPL is on for 2 months!!! ohmy.gif
kurtsimonw
Yet the highest paid Indian sportsman only earns $1.8m. Strange.
Jack Sparrow
Don't think so. The IPL is a different tournament all together. Different salary. The captain of the Indian team for instance is making 10 million a year all added up.

Great find !! Thanks for sharing king.gif

Funny I always thought MLB and NBA had the highest salaries out of all sports, this proves otherwise.
Jack Sparrow
I think..because the press publishes NBA and MLB salaries as salary for the whole contract.

So while a 50 million salary for 7 years might sound big. It's no bigger than what the second string superstars of a top football club will earn. For eg. a pirlo or a essien.

Well according to ESPN in the same magazine as this, they have how much the top earner per country makes. For India it's MS Dhoni at $1.8m per year. It also says "IPL figures pro rata from weekly pay".

Same, very susprirsed to see 5 football teams in the top 10, including the top 2.

I'm not so sure, 50m over 7 years is still 135k a week which is still alot for a footballer. I think it's evened out by some very small contracts on players who don't play regularly or play positions that don't demand alot of money.

The top MLB and NBA players make the most (ie. A Rod at $26 million a year) but the drop off is huge to what normal players make in those leagues.
Jack Sparrow
But their salaries are gross right? Or is it like football where tax deducted salary is what is talked about. Coz even though Ibra earns 8, effectively Milan play like 14million.

How on earth is Yaya Toure the third most payed footballer (alongside Torres) in the world??? blink.gif

I know, but you'd expect Tevez or Balotelli to be the most paid, not Yaya Toure.

It would be a criminal offence if Balotelli was the most paid in that team. At least Yaya Toure and Tevez go some way about earning theirs.

Yes but the IPL is just one tournament that Dhoni participates in. It lasts roughly 45 days. Basically he gets paid 1.8M a season for playing for this team 'Chennai Super Kings'. On top of that there is the money he gets for playing with the Indian team, which is also pretty huge. And then his endorsements!

Though nowhere near Messi territory, a cricketeer(considering the spread of the game worldwide) earning 10 million a year all put together was a pleasant surprise to me.
kurtsimonw
Oh, I see. It probably doesn't include International earnings and such then. I think it's just base salary or something.
Jack Sparrow
Yes. And in cricket there's more internationals played than 'franchise' cricket. In fact till the IPL...the Indian cricketeers only played for the Indian cricket team. Maybe some country cricket. But that was it.

biggrin.gif Nice.

That's hopefully Gattuso's new team. biggrin.gif

So FIFA are investigated themselves regarding corruption. How is that even allowed? Surely it has to be an independant investigation. That's like me killing someone and being the judge and jury on my own trial. rolleyes.gif
LaPalma
FIFA is one hell of a joke. If I were Sepp Blatter I'd be ashamed to talk so much bs. How can he even go to a press conference and say that he's an honest man etc pp? Isn't he ashamed to lie in everyones face while the entire world know that he's the most corrupt man in sports history? And DFB-President Theo Zwanziger still supports this swiss joke laugh.gif
acid911
Aren't they going to choose a new man for the top, FIFA? unsure.gif On June 1. It's going to be Sepp Blatter and some guy from the Middle East. That's probably what the press conference was about, I reckon.
Jack Sparrow
Yes.And they had the MIddle East dude Bin Hammam suspended. biggrin.gif How convenient!!
acid911
Yup. laugh.gif There's corrupt, then there's FIFA.
X-Offender
I have no idea what's going on with Blatter right now, but he's always been a fool.
Milan Are Brilliant
This was obvious as soon as the results were announced, at least now it's not just a conspiracy theory.
LaPalma
Blatter...always a good laugh.
kurtsimonw
I still don't understand why England are even a part of FIFA. Why have we not pulled out after that disgrace last December. huh.gif
LaPalma
At least you guys criticize this joke of an organisation in the right way. The national FAs should disband from FIFA and establish a new organization.
acid911
I'll be all for it. sleep.gif When a governing/facilitating body is holding the game back, it's time for a new body!
Dracoris
FIFA's biggest problem is the management. No need for all the countries to pull out, thats a hassle. I think id just be easier to force Blatter and Co. to retire smile.gif
acid911
But they won't, that's the problem. sad.gif Far too much dirty laundry in there to bring out in the open!
Milan Are Brilliant
Oh well, at least the cracks are finally beginning to show.
acid911
Agreed. smile.gif Powerful media helps, something which was not present up till, what early 90s. Still don't think major changes will occur anytime soon. Just like I said in one of my earlier posts a few weeks back. The "sheeps" will get in the way - as much as you, I or anyone else with knowledge wants to see some new faces, changes, etc.

Oh, btw the "FIFA family" reminds me of the GDR bosses on the eve of the Berlin walls fall. What did Erich Honecker, General Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party, say in 1989? "We have done our perestroika, we have nothing to restructure", or "The wall will be there for another 100 years."
Sepp Blatter in 2011: "Crisis? There is no crisis."
acid911
Well said, LaPalma. smile.gif FIFA has lost the trust fast these last few years!

Head of Argentina FA

"It looks like England is always complaining so please I say will you leave the Fifa family alone!" he says to strong applause. "We always have attacks from England," he adds. "Their journalism is more busy lying than telling the truth."

Cyprus FA:

"Allegations - what a beautiful English word," scoffs the Cyprus FA delegate. "Someone stands up says a few things... without a single shred of truth."

QUOTE
Head of the Congo FA:

"He who accuses must provide evidence," he fumes. "A single candidate sometimes proves that people are satisfied with that candidate," says the Congo FA man, to loud applause from the floor.

And as for those that still believe there's no bias against England, or racism within the FIFA ranks..

Vice chairman Grondana

QUOTE
‘I do not believe a Jew can ever be a referee at that level (Argentine Premier League) because it’s hard work and, you know, Jews don’t like hard work’

My personal favourite part from Grondana.

QUOTE
"Yes, I voted for Qatar, because a vote for the US would be like a vote for England, and that is not possible.

"But with the English bid I said: Let us be brief. If you give back the Falkland Islands, which belong to us, you will get my vote. They then became sad and left."

So basically, because we made them look like little girls, they don't like us anymore. Wah, wah!

I think it's definitely time for us to pull out of FIFA. What's the point of entering competitions we can not possibly win? Regardless of footballing ability.

There isn't. Your guy Chapman simply didn't accept the laws of the game king.gif

Edit: Oh, just to clarify. Even Stalin would have been proud of this verbal execution of the FA.

Of course. IMO he should get a hefty fine and if he repeats it, a couple of months in prison! I wouldn't go further than that though.

So the speculation is that Bin Hammam may have used bribes in order to help the Qatar bid. Blatter knew about it, then used it against Bin Hammam. Basically suspending him and asking him not to make a big deal out of the corruption in FIFA and not threw everyone under the bus. If he does keep shut, Qatar can keep the World Cup.

Wonderful.
