good game, I didn't expect much when he was subbing those kids on, maybe pks.
But zigoni has shown some promise, he certainly has no confidence though. I think the weight of the shirt has put him in a bit of a shock. His head is down all the time. But I think Leo likes him and he'll feature in our season.
Inzaghi....lol wow. If this guy doesnt get injured I dont think borriello or any other cf who came in would get playing time.
strasser harmony...they aren't bad, but i think loaning them should be in order. Cardaccio/viudez should be ahead of them in the pecking order.
gooch- its his first game after long time of holidays, he can't speak italian so there is no communication. Give him a break. He needs some time before he can adjust fully. I think in the end he'll turn out really great.
and finally I thought I would never say this but, please bring Dida back. Storari and kalac are complete trash. :'(

Despite our showing today, I'm going to give the youth some more chances before I make my conclusion.
If we can sign Dzeko and an attacking midfielder (Hernanes or Hamsik) then this squad is ready to challenge.
I'm still unsure what roles are Abate and Di Gennaro are playing as.
But the positives we can take from this game are we had 3 unknown youngsters who played some parts; Zigoni, Strasser and Harmony. Abate is an express train. Ronnie is slowly regaining his confidence. Nesta is nearly back. Antonini looks capable of replacing Zambrotta.

First, I would like to say that basicaly it was a good game. There was some good points as well as bad ones. So lets start from good ones: 1. Abate. He's very fast and it seems he has a good prospective for a future. 2. Ronaldinho. This brazilian was shining again. It would be better if his teamates helped him a bit more. Bad ones: Inzaghi. In my opinion he was too much selfish expecially in a last game. 2. Defending from dead and high balls

Our defence still lacks as well, so I think you guys should add that to our list of deparments which need impovement: CF, AM, and Defender. GK would be a wise asset imo as well. Sell that clown Kalac and Storari (and get someone better).

We shouldn't fuss over trifles like third choice GK. I think a CF is needed, but I haven't seen enough of Leo's style to know what kind.
Since Dzeko is more of an SS I think. Is the idea going to be something like this?
-------Pippo/Marco---
Pato------------------Dzeko
----------R80----------------
-------Pirlo--------DM-----
It looks good, but where is the depth?

dzeko is a SS, very similar to andriy.
If he comes it'll be
dzeko-pato-dinho
But on the field it will not play like this. What will actually happen is they will all have free roles. So you will see dinho go to the middle, dzeko go the middle, pato shuffle over to a side etc etc.
if he doesn't come...
we'll play like this
pato-borriello-dinho,
and the same free role system will be applied. Will it work? I doubt it. Borriello can't dribble, while dzeko can. Thats why fabiano would have been great imo, because he can work anywhere and beat a defender or two. thats why i'm hoping we sign someone soon. But maybe borriello can play it, i cant really judge cause i havent seen much of him at all. Inzaghi already seems to excell in this system so no worries there.
You guys all have to stop thinking that our attack will be stationary, because it will not be. Did you see Pippo today? He was all over the field. This is no longer carlo's system of boot the ball to the stationary striker and hope he scores and if he doesn't there is always kaka. In this system it will be all movement and thru balls cutting the defence open creatign 1 v 1 situations.

When I said we should sell Kalac & Storari to get another - I didn't mean for a 3rd place GK spot.
I mean't for starter. Use the money from the sales of that tall 'half a season fluke' of a loser and Storari.
Put a bit more and get a potential GK for starting.

agreed but the problem is that isn't even 5 million right there LOL! We'd have to sell them and dida and add money to even have a chance at someone like marchetti.
Personally I hope we sell them both and use that money to for funding towards dzeko. A few mil makes a difference now I guess.
In my opinion right now Dida is enough considering our current financial situation. We'll have abbiati back soon and if he is back to his regular self we have a top keeper.

As regards last night, one thing Milan were definitely missing was Pirlo.
The defense in the first half was good (or maybe it was just because Nesta played the first half) and Fishdoll doesn't think Onyewu should be slated for miscommunication with Storari on that goal conceded, especially after all of 3 practices with the club and probably no language in common.
The Fight Club moment was interesting.
Pippo is still an immortal.
Ronaldinho showed good moments but he was really wasteful -- that would be punished badly in a league game and needs to not stop.
Fishdoll felt bad for poor Zigoni, had two good shots, missed 'em both - but again, an 18 year old in his first start for the club, poor kid was probably still in shock.
Fishdoll remains a fan of Abate - do more people rate him now? - and thinks we'll see more of him in the tournament. He's one of the guys who came back late because he was playing with the U21s. Fishdoll wants to see him play as RB (which he did do for Toro occasionally, so he's well capable of it).

For me Dzeko being an SS is an advantage. We already have 3 CFs in Inzaghi, Boriello and Zigoni. If we want to play like Barcelona, we need someone who can dribble and beat defenders. Plus we will add depth to our squad with his addition. The ideal forward players would be:
Ronnie-Dzeko-Pato
however, injuries are inevitable and say Ronnie gets injured, at least we'll have Dzeko to replace him on the left or right like this: and it could also allow Pato to play trequartista.
Dzeko-Boriello-Pato
------or--------
Dzeko-Boriello
-----Pato------

Jul 23 2009, 01:21 PM
So we would have a frontline of 3 SS as first choice???
Pato's finishing has got some work to be done. Ronnie is not really that good when it comes to being in the box surrounded by defenders...especially as an aerial threat.
So is Dzeko all that and more?

yeah i'm a big fan of his too , i watched him last season for Torino he was very very good, a great dribbler has the pace and crosses are superb , i hope he slots into the WBR position or the normal right winger position as long as he plays i think he'll do good !!

He's more than just a support striker, he scored 36 goals for Wolfsburg and standing at 1.92 metres tall. He will be the one who finish chances created by Ronnie and Pato. I'm saying the fact that he can dribble and beat defenders like Sheva could is an advantage to have.

+1 its not really his fault. GK are supposed to alert defenders on situations like that. I mean there are no excuses but its very hard when you came back from vacation, trained for a few days and have no fitness, transfered to one of the biggest clubs in the world and don't understand italian.
Imagine how the guy feels, hes an ambassador for usa football in italy. The shirty is extra heavy. Imagine if he excels? More americans will make it into europe. If he doesn't...well then we have the current situation. Its very important for him to do well and he has a lot of pressure now playing for us unfortunately.

So I talked to a coworker who's a Manchester United fan (hates Berbatov, loves Giggsy) about yesterday's game. He thought Milan looked competitive and that they were playing at a good level - 'it looked like a real game' were his words. He enjoyed the Fight Club moment, thought Ronaldinho looked good, and was impressed by Abate. Thought it was interesting to hear what a neutral watcher picked up.

I'm not sure where to post this, so I'll just do it here...
I made some calculations on the squad's age average. I found out the average age of our 27 manned-squad is 28.96 or if we round it up, 29.
Two years ago it was 32, so at least there's an improvement in that aspect.
Of 4 GK's, the average is 33.75
Of 9 D's, the average is 30.78
Of 8 M's, the average is 27.5
Of 6 F's, the average is 25
The pattern shows that as we go up the field, the players get younger.
There is absolutely no sense in my findings, but I'm just bored you know, wake up everyday hoping Milan sign great players...so I thought I'd entertain you guys with these little facts.
