I don't really like *********, but I agree with Porty here. Crouch has a very good International record, he can't even make the bench at *********, they have superb depth.
*

Crouch has very good technique and he's a good player but not world-class.

Anyway, everyone has their own opinion...

They have depth yeah. They have good players to replace the good ones on their starting XI... Benitez is the one who takes them to another level, he makes them look better than they are, he makes them look great!

QUOTE (dst @ Sep 11 2007, 09:56 PM)
In my opinion *********'s squad is not that good! Actually, I think it's worse than Roma's... that's why I believe Benitez is doing an extraordinary job! With the material he has, he's no doubt the most successful manager around!
*

GK: Reina, Itandje

RB: Finnan, Arbeloa
LB: Riise, Arbeloa, Aurelio
CB: Carragher, Agger, Hyppia, Arbeloa

CM/OMC/DMC:
Mascherano, Gerrard, Sissoko, Xabi Alonso, Lucas Leiva, Benayoun <- Impressive. The best CM in Europe IMO.

LW: Babel, Kewell, Riise, Aurelio, Pennant, Leto
RW: Benayoun, Pennant, Gerrard

FW/ST: Torres, Voronin, Kuyt, Crouch

I wish we had that depth... and yes, Benitez is something. But compare Liverpool to Roma?

I mean, you know I hate Barcelona (the club, the city, the people from there, etc) but I admit they've a top-squad this season. Probably their best squad ever. It's really amazing.

Well, opinions. smile.gif IMHO Liverpool along with Chelsea have the best squad (20-25 players) in the EPL.
dst
Itandje, Finnan, Arbeloa, Riise, Aurelio, Agger, Kewell, Pennant are all mediocre player while Leiva and Leto are pretty much unknown!

Most of *********'s players are not that good in my view. The team has made them look good and Benitez... kinda like Kaladze (and so many others) in Milan...

I compare them to Roma yes. I think Roma have a better starting XI and they have equally good bench players... it's all about the team they are in!

I hate nobody! I do dislike Real as much as I dislike ********* and I just admitted they have an impressive squad, probably the best in Europe...

Finnan, Riise, Agger and Kewell mediocre? huh.gif Even Pennant now is showing some good stuff.

Better starting XI? Well, I hope they play in the last 16 or in the CL quarter-finals. Liverpool would eat'em alive.

Oh they certainly would! Cause they have a shirt that weighs many tons!! Roma is not a big club in my view... But I'd rather see the Italian side go through! Not just against them, for as long as possible...

Well, there aren't players at their level right now at all. At the moment you have maybe 5 good LB's.

Riise has it all: technique, speed, stamina, great shot, he's very reliable and can play in the midfield as good. While I'm writing he scored a goal against Greece smile.gif
kurtsimonw
I think it depends on what kind of level you're talking about.

Riise is very good, just not the same as Carlos or whoever. Otherwise there's plenty of great LBs, there's at least 6 or 7 in the EPL for me.

He's got great (edit: not great, powerful! 1 out of 20 is actually on goal) shot yeah... but that's not enough for me to call him a great player. In my opinion he's mediocre, there's nothing more I could possibly say... I'm not trying to convince anyone.

I've seen him score before, this goal is not going to change my opinion about him!

Yes... they are both LB's... I honestly don't understand, I'm not trying to play it smart! I mean... of course there are different characteristics, it wouldn't be possible for them to be the exact same players but different TYPE of LB's!?? What types of LB's are there? Maybe you mean full-backs that attack a lot and the other type being not-so-attacking? I still don't get it as I regard both as full-backs!

Just because somebody plays in a certain position, it doesn't mean they're similar players.

That's like saying Dani Alves and Olof Mellberg are the same because they're both right backs. I'm just saying I don't think they share the same attributes. Maldini is a solid defender, but not too great getting forward and crossing, he's decent in the air. Riise is not that solid at the back, gets forward well, magnificent on set peices, but not too good in the air.

He was great at that too back then when he was young. But yes, Riise is a bit more offensive type.

It was just a matter of specification... you talked about different types while, in my view, different characteristics do not comprise different types of players. I think Riise is naturally a LW if you ask me but since he plays at LB I have to judge him as such... I think the way you wrote it bespeaks the same thing; you judged both based on what an LB has to do... Riise HAS TO defend, it's another thing that he's not so good at it... Anyway, I'm being so thorough it's getting silly...

By the way, you think Maldini is not good at crossing!!?!??!?!?!?! huh.gif

Not really. With him playing a CB much more than LB now I don't really see him cross it too much, but whenever he does it's just not very good at all. He used to be good, not anymore, in my opinion.

QUOTE
Arjen Robben is unlikely to make his debut for Real Madrid this weekend as club medics are not prepared to give him the green light to play.

The Dutch winger joined Real from Chelsea last month, but has been battling to overcome a knee injury since his arrival in the Spanish capital.

Robben returned to training this week and hopes were high that he would finally be able to make an appearance against Almeria on Saturday.

However, according to Marca, Real doctors do not want to take any risks and will only pass the 23-year-old fit to play when he is 100 per cent ready.

Robben believes that he is ready having felt no pain when kicking a ball during training.

But doctors are concerned that the former Chelsea star has not trained at the same level as the rest of the team and is not match fit.

Bernd Schuster may be tempted to name the player in his squad but Robben would only be on the bench and is not expected to play any part.

Sky Sports

He could be a great player if he stayed healthy for long enough, but I think he's going to be one of those guys that finishes early, maybe even before 30. These injuries are going to take their toll.

I would be lying if I said I don't like Real. Casillias, Metzelder(Though mostly injured), Gago, Sneijder, Raul and Higuain are my favorites. They have such an exciting team this year. Milan need just that. Some exciting signings like Pato, but why not a couple more?

And from what my pals who saw the match claim, Madrid didn't really have as easy a match as the scoreline would suggest, offside decision going their way etc. And Almeria really puttin up a fight.

Whatever dude. Milan, without a couple key players, are not even good enough to beat Siena. Our options in attack is laughable. I live in the present, not the past. When we won the CL, I was as euphoric as everyone else. That times has passed now and we have a weaker and even older team this year. ^^ It's simple. Generally, this squad ia not enough for league but good for CL. And you can easily see it over the recent years, and it's not hard to find the reasons why.

Sevilla managed another big win tonight, 4-1 over Recreativo. Kanoute and Kerzhakov with two each (Kerzhakov also missed a penalty).
