Schuster Defiant Over Walkout

Bernd Schuster has said that he was right to walk out on reporters at the weekend because he believes that he is too important to be shown such disrespect.

The Real Madrid coach was angered when journalists repeatedly asked for his thoughts on referee during Los Merengues' win against Recreativo in Huelva.

After opting to end the press conference by suddenly leaving, Schuster caused a stir which led the Huelva Sports Journalists' Association to lodge a complaint with Madrid.

Despite that, Schuster has said that he would do the game again and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic has lent the German his support.

"I do not repent anything at all. I am pleased with what I did because because the people who asked me things deserved it," Schuster said.

"I had to leave because if nobody wants to talk about football then it is better if I go rather than waste my time.

"I still think that the three gentleman did not deserve for me to stay there because they were only interested in the referee.

"If it happens again, I will react in the same way because I think that there are times when no enough respect is shown.

"People forget that they were speaking to the coach of Real Madrid.

"It does not bother me what they call me, but I am important, very important, and at times they forget their manners.

"I am not someone who can accept that and I preferred to leave."

Mijatovic agreed that Schuster should not have had to talk about the refereeing during the match after making it clear that he was not keen on discussing the subject

"When reporters asked him three times and Schuster said he did not want to talk about referees, the fourth time he was right to leave because you have to suppose that there are no more questions," the sporting director said.

"We understand that people ask what they want, but if they see that the coach does not want to talk about it, you have to respect that. It is logical that in the end he was tired and so left."

I read the first line, and didn't bother reading the rest.

"I'm too important to be disrespected" was enough for me. Of the 2 realistic contenders, I do want Madrid to win the league, but that's a stupid thing to say. Nobody is too important for anything.

Robben Out For A Month

Arjen Robben will face another four weeks on the sidelines, as an MRI scan he underwent today revealed a severe left ankle sprain.

It could have been worse for the Real Madrid star after that horrific Quique Álvarez challenge against Recreativo, last Saturday. The Dutch international winger has a crack in the outside link of his left ankle, with which he was diagnosed only today because of a heavy contusion.

Besides Wednesday’s crucial home game against Roma, the 24-year-old will also miss the Primera División matches against Espanyol, Deportivo de La Coruña, Valencia and Sevilla. He may just be ready in time for the European Champions League quarter-finals first leg, on April 1 or 2, should of course the Spanish giants progress in the competition tomorrow.

This is the latest in a series of injury set-backs for the former Groningen, PSV Eindhoven and Chelsea man since joining Real for a reported 36.55 million euros on August 22 last year. In fact, he has only appeared in 19 of their games since, scoring two goals

Recreativo player almost killed him. If some player did that to Kaka' or Pato everybody would go mental in MF.

It's obvious this injures any player. Not only Robben. Anyway, he's still young and one of the best wingers in the game. Far better than any Chelsea winger.

Robben is better than anyone of them of course. Kalou is not good enough for a top team?? Come on now, you rate Babel... Kalou has shown 10 times what the Dutch has, even last year (when he was at the same age as Babel is now)!!

I don't agree about Cole. He is very good in my opinion!

I'm just comparing the players. Messi is injury-prone too but one of the best in the world. Eto'o played 7 or 8 league matches this season and since they were Euro Champs is having injury after injury and he's one of the best.

I think 45M/euros for a 30 yo foward was a better deal. cool.gif

Joe Cole is average? laugh.gif Obviously you don't like him/Chelsea or don't watch the play enough. I think you'll find that he's under valued, because he's English wink.gif

I'd rather have Kalou + Cole in my squad. At least those 2 will play regularly and do a job. Robben barely plays, and when he does he just shows off with his pointless tricks.

On the one game a year he does try and is actually fit, he's great though.

Babel is not a winger. OK, Kalou is a SS too but c'mon. I think Babel has much more potential than the Chelsea's one. Just my opinion.

I think Kalou might be good for a team like Everton/A.Villa/Man City. Not Chelsea.

Do you think Babel will stay at Liverpool? I don't see Benitez playing him as a forward to be honest, and whenever he does play with 2 forwards it'll be Torres + Kuyt/Crouch/Voronin. So do you think it will be best for Babel to leave or continue to play on the wing?

Would Joe Cole be a starter in a club like R.Madrid or Barcelona? No, he wouldn't. Unlike Robben, Robinho, Messi, Ronaldinho and those top-guys.

Chelsea have no top-wingers IMO. Unlike Man Utd for example that even Nani surprised me (I really thought he'd fail there).

Joe Cole improved with Mourinho's influence. But IMHO he's no way near a top player.

You are comparing Messi injuries with Robben? Please, Not even close. Same with Eto'o. You are are forgetting that he played at ACN and has a loong way to be as injury prone as Robben biggrin.gif

Both are very good deals. But what that has do with what we are talking about now? 37M euros for a player that probably will never be over his injury problems is great.

Benitez in a interview said he'd probably play Babel as SS + Torres in the future as long as they get a proper world-class winger.

For me, Aghboasoisdjoidasjoisdjoiasdjioadasjoiasdojodjhor (that guy that have a weird name of A.Villa) is better than Kalou.

He has time to prove himself in the game and to be consistent. He's young.
kurtsimonw
Joe Cole probably wouldn't start at those clubs, but I disagree in saying that Nani is better than him. Joe Cole's been a good, now great, player in the EPL for 8 or 9 years. Nani's been a good sub, who's started a few games, in 1 year. It's unfair to say he's even half of Cole yet.

I think Milan has the best ever deal on a transfer so far, with Shevchenko. But there aren't many better than what Chelsea got with Robben!

Exactly.

Nani hasn't even earned the right to be compared with Joe Cole

Babel, for now, hasn't proved that he's worthy of a team Liverpool.

QUOTE
Iván Helguera has hit out the Real Madrid hierarchy by claiming that Ramón Calderón and Pedja Mijatovic drove him out of the club by making his life impossible.

The veteran defender spent eight successful years at the Bernabéu before being allowed to leave last summer to join Valencia.

Now Helguera has decided to vent his anger at the way that he spent his last season at Madrid and made it clear that president Calderón and sporting director Mijatovic were to blame.

"They took away my squad number and made my life impossible by telling me that I would play again. They said that I would never wear the Real Madrid shirt again," he explained.

"They wanted me to leave as quickly as possible.

"It was not fair after I had spent eight years at the club and helped the team win everything.

"I was struggling against things that were not to do with football."

Helguera saw many changes during his time at Madrid as he played during before and during the Galáctico era, but believes that current regime does not care at all about the club.

"I just did not want to continue fighting against people that are not part of Real Madrid," he continued.

"For me, they are people that are at Real Madrid, but they are not what it stands for, they are not people that go to the games or people that feel deeply, like me, about Madrid.

"These are people that look at other things and I did not want to stay and continue going against them, I just wanted to play."
