If you're referring (also) to this tradition we're talking about then I don't agree, I really like it!
Anyway... I don't know if you have noticed but Spanish clubs have had some crazy presidents at times...
Ever heard of Jesus Gil? This guy was (he died on May 14, 2004) crazy. He was Atletico Madrid's president and mayor of
Marbella. Funny guy but a friend of Franco...

Here's the story I've heard about him:
When he was studying economics in Madrid he suddenly got fed up, walked down to the lecture theater's stage and said to the professor and students: "This is all bullshit, we're wasting our time. I'm leaving this place, I'm going to learn this stuff on the street. Don't worry, you will soon hear about me!"
And he was right! He became a contractor and in 1969 he built a mall in Los Ãngeles de San Rafael and during the celebrations of it's opening, the building collapsed when there were 700 people in it, killing 58 of them... I'm sure his colleagues heard about him after that...
He did some time and then Franco helped him out.
He then went to Marbella and continued his business that made him rich and famous and turned the little town into a goldmine!
At this time he also starts meddling in Atletico's directorates... he meets Vicente Calderon and gets close to him. When the latter decides to retire Jesus Gil goes for the presidency. He became president in 1987 and maintained his position until 2003.
In 1991 he founded and led a new alliance which he called GIL, Grupo Independiente Liberal in order to become Marbella's mayor. He won and became a successful president, snatching another two victories in '95 and '99.
in '99 he goes to jail again as it was proved he transfered 450m pesetas (I think that's nearly 3m euros) from Marbella's cash-book to Atletico's one... he gets out after paying 100m pesetas.
In 2002 he is accused of having defrauded close to 4,500m pesetas in his first tenure as mayor. He gets sentenced and then gets out of jail in a week after paying 700k euros...
Anyway... here's the funny stuff
I love this first story: He always made fun of the Spanish journalist's cause they did not speak English at all. One time in an airport in Spain he started talking to the journalists in English and they did not get a thing so he started running and they kept running behind him and he told the airport security guys to arrest all those that were chasing him!

Later, he went to release them laughing with tears and gave them English-learning books!
Some rich guy from Marbella gifted Jesus a little crocodile, which he named Furia (arrow) and took with him in Calderon's press room. There, after bad results, he was pointing at the crocodile, threatening his players! He also threatened the journalists he did not like that he would release Furia against them!
After a defeat in the league from Logroñés, Gil vent's his spleen on Atletico's forward Adolfo Valencia: "I will cut the scruff of this nigger! I'll **** his whore of a mother that let him out. I will kill him with my own hands". When the sporting judge called him to apologize he said: "Racism depends on one's point of view. And in this case, I am the victim, not he! I pay him, I give him a house and money and he doesn't give a **** about me! Maybe he has a problem with me being a white?"
When Ramón Mendoza invited him to watch the derby together he went all smiling wearing a scarf that read "Antimadritista"!

He went against anyone... coaches, players, presidents and refs: Here's what he said to a French referee in front of some UEFA officials: "You are a fag and you will get your payment from your paedophile friends"
He once said "my idols are Jesus, Franco and Che Guevara!"
His greatest moment as Atletico's president was when his team won the double (the only one they've won till today) in '96. He was so happy when they won that he wanted to parade with the trophies in front of the whole city. He made a secret agreement with some people from Madrid's zoo to get the zoo's elephants for the parade

but the police found out and stopped it and guarded the zoo for a couple of days!

But then he rented a dozen of coaches and numerous horses and he paraded through thousands of people that were deifying him, passed by the Neptuno fountain (where the Atletico fans celebrate their team's victories), handed the trophies to Virgin Mary at the Madrid cathedral while the archbishop confered his benediction on him (I think he needed that!) and ended inside a full-house Vicente Calderon that he entered as a Roman emperor would after a victorious invasive war!
Here he punches and swears at Compostela's president Caneda!
And
here his giving an interview from his house at Marbella. Check out the Atlético crest at the pool's bottom!
Also
here he is with a young Raul... damn it!
