Sevilla: Puerta had heart attack

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has revealed wing-back Antonio Puerta had a heart attack in his side's game against Getafe.

Puerta is in a "very serious" condition in intensive care after collapsing in his own box after 35 minutes of Sevilla's Primera Liga opener.

The Spain international had walked off the pitch following the incident but then collapsed again in the changing rooms and was taken to the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville.

Del Nido says Puerta is stable but admitted the 22-year-old suffered a heart attack at the Sanchez Pizjuan during Saturday's 4-1 win over Getafe.

"He had a heart attack. He's in intensive care and is stable," Del Nido told Cadena Ser radio.

"We were scared, very scared, for the life of the player."

This is scary! ohmy.gif

I hope he's OK but will he be able to play if he it's proved he has a heart problem?
Tennie
It was scary to watch. I was having nightmare flashbacks to the Benfica game a couple of years ago when a player died on the pitch. sad.gif

Forza Puerta. You're in our thoughts.

I don't think so. He had double hard attack (one in the locker room and one in the hospital) and he's only 22 ohmy.gif After that you are just glad to be alive.

Here in the land of dial-up internet, I'm following the game via matchcast play by play. Is it really 6 shots on goal for Santander v. 0 for FC Hype's dream team attack? Buh.

Sell Kaka, buy Tomasson. biggrin.gif Since we're all so eager for strikers to come off the bench.

Apparently Sevilla called up Dani Alves for this weeks Champions League qualifier with AEK, but he refused to travel.

4 days - 12 hours - 35 minutes. That's all the time he has left until he's a Sevilla player for another year at least.
KillerMax
I'm glad Rossi scored. I think we should have bought him. I rate him higher than Gila. He is certainly livelier than him...

Cruyff Hits Out At Hyped-Up Barcelona

Johan Cruyff has hit out at the performance of FC Barcelona in the goalless draw against Racing Santander and believes that the players should not listen to the hype.

The Blaugrana have been tipped to take the league by storm this season folowing the new arrivals and Cruyff thinks that the euphoria may have gone to their heads.

Frank Rijkaard's side looked blunt and bereft of ideas in El Sardinero and Cruyff pulled no punches in his weekly column for Catalan newspaper, El Periodico on Monday morning.

"There are no superheroes here. There are only football players, normal people," he stated.

"The over-the-top flattery is not a good thing, it has the reverse effect.

"If this is the reaction, it shows that nobody has learnt anything at all. The worst thing is not to know ones faults.

"I do not know anyone that has won a trophy before playing for it. It is absurd and very dangerous.

"If every day you read that you are fantastic, that the squad is incredible and that the team is unbelievable, then in the end you begin to believe that.

"There were the same mistakes, nothing has changed.

"On one hand you can ask them to look in the mirror and learn some lessons, while at the same time one has to ask how are they going win.

"You will never solve problems if you do not know what the problem is."

Sevilla are being unlucky these days. Dani Alves wants out (and I think they'll have to sell him right before the transfer window closes) and Puerta will definitely have to retire from football. can they make it and stay at the top?! I doubt.
kurtsimonw
Without Dani Alves and Puerta they still have a good lineup. Adriano and Duda both work well down the left in Puerta's absence. Hinkel, the German, has been playing pretty well while Alves has been "injured".

They'll still make top 4 in my opinion, Especially with Valenica/Villarreal/Athletico all being 'too average' to really challenge for the title. My prediction: 3rd. I'm happy with that. smile.gif

Sky Sports News have just announced this:

They have reports from Spain that Antonio Puerta's condition had gotten worse over night. And that he has now passed away in hospital. sad.gif

If this is true, it's a terrible tradgedy.

EDIT: They've put it through on their breaking news, which means it's pretty much certain. He's only 22

RIP Antonio, will always be remembered.

In an interview with rádio Jovem Pan the Brazilian forward [Luis Fabiano]was understandably depressed by the events and sounded exasperated that the problem wasn't a bolt from the blue. "He’d already fainted twice before, although the others weren’t as serious as this one”, he began.

“He’d fainted like that once at half time at the end of last season. It was a friendly [Luis Fabiano didn’t specify the match] and it was really hot, but as he recovered later on we all put it down to the heat.”

"The other time was during training and he fell in exactly the same way he did on Saturday. But he walked away and we thought it was heat exhaustion again as it was boiling then as well", he added

man thats one great transfer market for athletico, their midfield is suddenly one of the best in europe (on paper). they alreayd have maniche, costinha and maxi. now the've added reyes, simao, luis garcia and now riquelme?!?! we're talking about one of the most creative and deep midfields in europe here! not to mention the interesting partnership between aguero/forlan king.gif hope to see them do well smile.gif

They lost a hell of alot in Torres and Petrov though, and Luccin looks like he'll be joining Blues. They'll be battling for a UEFA Cup place again in my view.

I think they only got stronger and selling Torres was a right thing to do. Now they have much more balanced team. They'll fight for CL place.

that kid aguero is amazingtho, and forlan knows how to score em. in all honesty i think the two together will make up for what torres did. but petrov was nothing amazing. i mean shipped him out and got simao and reyes as wingers, i'd take those two over petrov anyday.

According to what I saw, the deal can't go through unless they get rid of one of their non-EU players? (They're already maxed out). Anyone know anything about this?

They had Aguero AND Torres together, so Forlan is going to have to single-handedly replace Torres, which he won't. Real, Barca, Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal will finish above them in my opinion. I say 6th.

5-0. But it's not a big deal since Inter played with the primavera.

Ibrahimovic, Stankovic, Cordoba, Samuel, Suazo, Julio Cesar, Vieira, Zanetti, etc stayed in Milano.
