His Wales v Scotland dive was pretty terrible too, for a penalty as well.

He's a cheat

Yep, to ridiculous levels but he's British 'so he must have been clipped'.

Funny how people like CR, Suarez etc never got/get that.
Jack Bauer
Maybe in UK (that's the media's problem, not his), but he's not relly overhyped in the rest of the world.

Suarez is more than just a diver, he was involved in other things too. I can see why so many people dislike him.

He's super-hyped in Italy, because they remember his hat-trick against Inter.
Jack Bauer
Well, in countries I have been, he wasn't that hyped at all. Not even close.
kurtsimonw
Liverpool destroying Wigan.

Reading, Villa and Wigan all desperate to try and out suck each other.
Milan Are Brilliant
Another Suarez HT, his 2nd was a calamity from Wigan's point of view.
kurtsimonw
Probably the worst defensive performance I've ever seen. I'd have fancied myself a goal in this.

Arsenal May Be Taken Over for 1.5 Billion Pounds, Telegraph Says

Arsenal football club may be bought out by a Middle East group for 1.5 billion pounds ($2.3 billion), potentially the sport’s biggest takeover, the U.K. Telegraph reported, citing an unidentified person in the group.

The cash offer for all of the 62,217 issued shares would include about 830 million pounds for U.S. owner Stan Kroenke’s 66.83 percent stake, according to the report. The bid, more than twice the amount that Arsenal was valued at two years ago, will be backed by funds from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the Telegraph reported.

A successful offer for Arsenal at that price would eclipse the 790 million pound leveraged buyout in 2005 of Manchester United Plc (MANU) by the U.S.-based Glazer family. The money would enable the club to pay back its about 250 million pounds of debt, the Telegraph said, citing Arsenal’s last full-year results.

The group behind the bid would make available funds to improve the squad and pledge to reduce ticket prices at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, according to the Telegraph report. The group has requested a meeting with Kroenke, it said.

Arsenal, which faces Tottenham Hotspur today in the north London derby, is currently fifth in the 20-team Premier League standings, one spot out of the positions for Europe’s elite Champions League competition. The team, managed by Arsene Wenger, hasn’t won a major trophy since the F.A. Cup in 2005.

It's not going to be this simple anymore with the FA introducing FFP, hopefully they stick to their guns with it.
kurtsimonw
Not for a club like Arsenal, anyway. I think clubs outside the CL would be more happy to spend silly on a team for 3/4 years until they are able to generate more money of their own through sponsorship and stuff and then get into the CL - it's essentially what City did.
acid911
Bale. happy.gif Sleek goal.

Make that 2 goals Tottenham. biggrin.gif A ditto copy of the first one!

This defending is beyond abysmal.

If Wigan were bad yesterday this is ridiculous.
kurtsimonw
I play football on a Sunday with 3 Arsenal fans. They'll still no doubt try and convince me Vermaelen and Mertersacker are anything but terrible defenders.
kurtsimonw
Story of Villa's season. Batter Man City for 45 minutes, then right on half-time a defender slips which allows City to break and score. When the luck's against you, it's really against you.

EDIT: Worse yet, half-time replays show it wasn't a slip, but a foul. rolleyes.gif

One angle looked like he clearly tripped him, though reverse the angle and it's clear he's going down before Dzeko touches him. Dzeko makes contact but looks like his leg is going before he does, think no foul call was fair in all honesty.

Highlighted bit is the key. There is contact, no doubt about it. Would it have made a difference had he not touched him? I doubt it. But you can't trip someone and say "Ah, he'd have fell over anyway", it's still a foul.

City really are poor without Dzeko. Tevez is not good enough to lead a line on his own, he just doesn't have the game for it. Dzeko comes on and it's completely different.
kurtsimonw
Always been very critical of Fabian Delph, but Jesus, tonight he's been out of this World. Making a mess of the Champions.
kurtsimonw
Better team lost. QPR and Reading up next. Massive games for us.

EDIT: Showing highlights now. Benteke kicked over in the box by Nastasic who then handballs it. 2 penalties in 1 and it's not given. laugh.gif Ah, top 4 refs FTL.

This is a buyout of existing shareholders, GBP1.5Bn in exchange for full control of Arsenal. If the offer was accepted the new buyers would also have to bear the liability of FFP (or in Arsenal's case an advantage, if you follow my drift). But yeah, they wont be allowed to buy themselves to success ala Chelsea and City.

kurtsimonw
Tevez arrested for being a total retard, which goes completely in line with his character. Driving whilst banned.

Does anyone even care about the FA Cup anymore? laugh.gif Didn't even know it was United - Chelsea this afternoon, thought the big game was Liverpool - Spurs.

Also rumours hotting up about Cristiano going back to United, can't see it myself but I know what I'd do if I had to move Rooney on to get Ronaldo back.

I never really cared for either the FA or League Cup. Just one 'cup' competition is enough, having two makes it absolutely pointless.
Milan Are Brilliant
It used to be good to watch but honestly over the past decade the whole competition seems like it has really gone downhill.
kurtsimonw
I love the FA Cup. I'd also often rather watch the FA Cup Final over the Champions League Final.

I think the League Cup has massively improved recently as well, the big clubs often put out fairly strong sides. Testament to the lower leagues as well that Arsenal and Villa with their best side out got knocked out by a League 2 side.
kurtsimonw
Good to see my old mate Harry Redknapp back at Villa having abuse thrown at him. Even better to see his twitching, ugly, half melted face F off back down south with 0 points.

Hugely enjoyable! biggrin.gif

Michael Owen to retire from football.

Was out of this World for Liverpool, but made a mistake leaving and never quite got back to the heights of his early career. A real born finisher. One footed with very limited technical ability. But get him anywhere near the goal on that right foot and it was in the net.

I remember him very clearly, left liverpool for madrid, bad move in the end agreed! Just imagine him and Stevie G with Liverpool, it could have been out of this world.

I remember he used to be one of my favorite strikers in the world cup. A fox in the box.

Agreed. the year they finished 2nd with Benitez... a player like Owen up front and they'd have won the league I think.

£60m of public funding to give West Ham a new football stadium... laugh.gif laugh.gif

This country is run by some absolute morons.
kurtsimonw
I think it'd be more stupid to make the public keep paying for the upkeep though. Having a football team take it was the only option, just stupid they hadn't given it West Ham a while back. Not sure what all that Spurs nonesense was about. It can be converted fairly quickly between football and athletics so it's still going to be used for that, now we've just got some footy team dumb enough to pay for the running costs. Thank God for Sullivan, Gold and Brady

On the subject of stupidity though. Why take 1p of beer? The public won't notice it, but the government will. There's no real benefit to it. Just charge absurd prices, people will still pay because this country is alcoholic.

But the Olympic Stadium has been idle since, with no willing party to activate ity via lease or other means ... At least this way, it will go to some use.

By the way, what's the latest on Chelsea acquiring new football stadium?

Pretty much every previous Olympic stadium currently has a football team playing in it, because it's the only real way of keeping it going. People complain about how much it costs to build these things - I don't think it's fair for the London tax payer to have to keep it going as well. West Ham have to pay rent, % of executive revenue and a % of the sale of the club now. laugh.gif

Some teams truly have no class.

My dad and a few others do a lot of charity stuff for Help Harry Help Others which is a brain cancer charity. Every year they do a sponsored walk to the final away game of the season, last season it was Norwich, this season it is Wigan, from Villa Park. This season they've made a lot more money as there's been more awareness about it and such. A few footballers have given their match worn shirts to be auctioned off, Liverpool players all signed a ball to be sold, a few teams have given some match tickets to be sold off to raise money. A lot of football clubs have been very good about it. This brings me to West Brom - their response was that they only do things for local charities... Harry Moseley was from Birmingham, how much more local can you get? My dad doesn't care when teams don't respond as I'm sure they get letters all the time. But for a local club to send out a letter about that it's both classless and makes no sense.

Wow!That is indeed despicable.

What a goal from Lowton Kurt!

If Rooney does that it's goal of the season.

If Messi does it it's the best anyone has ever seen.

Great goal.

Indeed. Most great goals are somewhat unchallenged, but he had 2 Stoke defenders in his face and still managed to get the shot off. Ridiculous goal and as important as it was good.

1 spectacular goal and 1 assist for Mr. Lowton today. He's done more in an attacking sense today than Abate does in a season. tongue.gif

PFA Player of the Year nominations
Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
Juan Mata (Chelsea)
Luis Suarez (Liverpool)
Robin van Persie (Man U)
Michael Carrick (Man U) laugh.gif laugh.gif
Gareth Bale (Tottenham)

PFA Young Player of the Year nominations
Jack Wilshire (Arsenal)
Christian Benteke (Villa)
Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
Danny Welbeck (Man U)
Gareth Bale (Tottenham)
Romelu Lukaku (West Brom)

Bolded are what I hope. Benteke deserves it for doing what he's done on such a dreadful team.
