MILAN, Italy (AP) - AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said Ronaldo's transfer from Real Madrid should be finalized Monday.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani travels to Madrid to complete the 30-year-old striker's move.

"I believe the transfer will become a reality tomorrow," Ancelotti said Sunday. "He is a great player, he brings a lot of enthusiasm to the team. It is stimulating for a coach to have him."

Milan has made an undisclosed offer for Ronaldo, who underwent medical tests on Friday.

The Brazil international, who hasn't been picked for Madrid since the Jan. 7 defeat at Deportivo La Coruna, has said his difficulties with coach Fabio Capello seem set to force him out of the club.

A move to Milan would take Ronaldo back to the city where he spent five years with rival Inter Milan. He joined Madrid in 2002, winning the Spanish league at the end of his first season - his last major title.

If we manage to solve his weight problem, he will be very useful to us. Otherwise, he will be a bigger flop than Oliveira.

SuperPippo welcomes Roni

Milan forward Filippo Inzaghi has insisted that he is pleased with Ronaldo’s arrival as he can only improve the Rossoneri.

Vice-President Adriano Galliani is scheduled to travel to Madrid on Monday to finalise Il Fenomeno’s transfer to the San Siro outfit.

Rumours in Italy suggested that Inzaghi was not thrilled with the new signing, as he considered the ex-Inter ace a competitor for a spot in the first team.

“Why shouldn’t I be happy? Players who help us are always welcome,” said Inzaghi to Sky Italia after the victory over Parma.

“I’m a Milan fan, so great champions are always welcome in the group. We hope he will give us a big helping hand,” added the striker, who scored the decisive goal against the Ducali.

“Am I still important here? I would like to know which player doesn’t want to be important for his side. I have always received a lot from this club and I would like to repay them in every game.

“Milan are special. Maybe I will not be able to play every match, but that’s ok.”

Inzaghi pointed to the back of his shirt towards the crowd after netting goal No 127 on Sunday, but the 33-year-old denies that he was in any way referring to Ronaldo.

“I have celebrated this way in the past, I just wanted to show the supporters my name – the last thing on my mind in that moment was another player,” explained the former Juve man.

“The number is not a problem, the only thing that counts is to do well. This is a positive moment, I was able to score and I am very happy,” concluded Inzaghi.

Galliani e Braida atterrati a Madrid, il Real offre Cassano per Oliveira. Berlusconi 'E adesso Ronaldinho'

15:10 del 29 gennaio ::: calciomercato.com

Galliani and Braida just arrived in Madrid. Like han said, they have a meeting at 17:00, 1 million is the difference from what Real want and what Milan wants to pay for... but in the end it will be done.

Spanish press talk about a possibility of a Cassano for Oliveira (loan).

Berlusconi today:
"Ronaldo refused the $$$ from Asia and United States. He told me that he wants Milan and wants to prove that he is a champion. And Dida, Cafu' and Kaka' told me that he is a very professional person."

He said too yesterday on the stadium to some fans: "We're working on Ronaldinho too (trying to get him)."

I think this paragraph has to have an effect on any Milanista.

Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima (born September 22, 1976), simply known as Ronaldo, is a Brazilian professional footballer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to have ever played the game. He plays as a striker for Brazil and the Italian club A.C. Milan.

Fading Brazilian stars can't seem to go away quietly

"Ted, while I agree that in time, our band will be most triumphant, the truth is Wyld Stallyns will never be a super band until we have Eddie Van Halen on guitar."
-- Bill S. Preston, Esq., Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Need to lend some instant credibility to your flailing soccer team? Easy. Go find an Eddie Van Halen. Even if you know zip about soccer (and judging by some of the recent moves some club executives have made lately, you're not the only one), you know there's one place on earth where Eddie Van Halens seem to grow on trees: Brazil.

When it comes to raw skill, artistry, speed, deception and startling bursts of power -- all the attributes you need to become a successful goal scorer -- there is no country on earth that produces more top-level strikers than Brazil.

Pelé, the greatest player of all time, is still the biggest legend of the Beautiful Game, so much so that his personal list of the 125 greatest living soccer players of all time is as trusted a reference guide as Encyclopedia Britannica. His Web site is an unofficial news source for Brazilian soccer.

Millions upon millions are spent on Brazilian strikers. To wit: Soon after Brazil's 2002 World Cup triumph, Real Madrid bought Ronaldo for $50 million; between salary and endorsements in '06, Ronaldinho brought in the biggest one-year haul in soccer history by a guy not named Beckham, earning nearly $30 million. These guys become so famous, their last names are unnecessary.

It's no surprise then, that they also develop some of the biggest egos in the game. And when it comes to relinquishing the spotlight in the latter stages of their careers, well, they're about as successful at it as a certain rock legend is. Three of the biggest names in recent Brazilian soccer history have been stealing the headlines lately, and they're doing awfully good Van Halen impressions.

Take Ronaldo, for example. As soon as Monday, AC Milan will announce it has signed the man once know as "The Phenomenon," rescuing him from purgatory at Real Madrid. Ronaldo is simply the highest-scoring player in World Cup history and a three-time winner of FIFA's World Player of the Year award. With such success over a 14-year career, and after becoming an odd man out at Real, Ronaldo still feels he has something to prove at age 30.

In reality, Ronaldo is about as far from his peak as David Lee Roth is. Most of the press he has received in the last year has been directed at his ample gut. When Ronaldo took the field in Brazil's World Cup opener against Croatia last summer, it was clear he had perhaps spent a little too much time in his homeland's countless pay-by-weight buffet restaurants.

When Brazil flamed out against eventual finalist France in the quarterfinals, Ronaldo was shouldered with much of the blame as the embodiment of the over-privileged, undisciplined Brazilian team.

Now he's about to become the marquee signing at AC Milan, which, much like the Brazilian national team, is a powerhouse desperately trying to reclaim its old glory. This makes about as much sense as when Van Halen hired former Extreme lead singer Gary Cherone to fill Sammy Hagar's shoes.

Milan has not only been hit with an eight-point penalty in the wake of Italy's match-fixing scandal, but it's also currently plagued by injuries and quickly aging lineup. Now it's about to add an oft-hurt and overweight star in decline in the hopes that he'll help it get the team back on the right track.

A lot of this has to do with Ronaldo's wounded pride. He has grown tired of the pot shots about his weight and lack of discipline, and is obviously steamed over his reduced role as a bench warmer at Real Madrid. A chance to play again at Milan, one of the world's biggest clubs, is an opportunity to tell his detractors where to stick it.

Will he get that chance? Maybe. Ronaldo isn't the player he once was, but when he chooses to turn it on, he still shows flashes of the old brilliance and can score almost at will. But in the defense-minded Italian league, he may get a rude awakening when he realizes it's not as easy as it was when he dominated at Inter Milan for five seasons. It's a sad way to see one of the greatest players of all time finish out his career.

Milan Are Brilliant
Article above = Unprofessional.

At the end of the day I didn't want this guy at first but for just over £4 million and Ricardo Oliveira looking more likely to win the lottery than score a goal, is it that bad a decision? I think not.

We seem to have a knack of getting Brazilians 'past their prime' in recent years for example Rivaldo and Serginho. However we were told we had made a wrong choice in acquiring Cafu from Roma when he looked a certainty to go abroad and grab a bundle of cash (doing a Beckham!) Look at him now he has performed solidly the past couple of seasons and still looks like he could out run some of the younger lads in our squad.

So with this new strict diet that's being mentioned, a bit of training and reserve games for a few months we could have one of the most deadliest strikers in Europe on our hands. Do remember that so many attackers/players seem to flop at Madrid because they are too 'galactico' orientated.

This guy proved in the World Cup that he can still finish off things as well as the likes of Henry. The main thing is he looks like he wants to be on the pitch, he has in the past few years looked lazy, overweight and like he is happy to be on the bench watching not only his bank figures increase but also his weight ones as well!

The moment we can kick the lazyness out of him and if he gets back to a fraction of what he used to be, we indeed have a world class player on our hands - if only for a few years.

Ronaldo talks to continue

Ronaldo is still a Real Madrid player after Milan spent another day negotiating terms over his January transfer.

Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galliani flew to Madrid on Monday, but talks will continue on Tuesday after the official admitted that reaching a compromise has become problematic.

“I have no particular sensation,” noted Galliani at the end of a day when many expected the Brazilian to complete a San Siro move.

“Ronaldo will remain a Real player for this evening. We’ve adjourned talks for today and we have another meeting set for midday tomorrow.

“There are four points which we are still disagreeing on – the price, the form of payment, terms and interest.”

It is believed that Milan are willing to pay around £4.5m, whereas the Spanish giants are looking for something closer to £6m.

Ronaldo has already agreed personal terms with the Italian giants and passed his medical on Friday.

Meanwhile, Galliani shot down rumours suggesting that the two clubs were also discussing a possible swap deal involving Ricardo Oliveira and Antonio Cassano.

“That move would be impossible because both have played in the Champions League,” added Galliani.

“We already have Ronaldo, should he arrive, who wouldn’t be able to play in that competition this season.”

Milan only have Oliveira, Alberto Gilardino and Pippo Inzaghi available for Europe seeing as Marco Borriello has been suspended for failing a drugs test.

Whispers claiming that Real have also taken the opportunity to discuss an option for Kaka were also dismissed.

“We haven’t spoken at all about Kaka,” concluded the former Lega Calcio chief.

Madrid Waiting For High Noon To Answer Million-Dollar Question

Adriano Galliani and Ramón Calderón are currently immersed in what appears to be football’s equivalent of a celebrity poker showdown. The po-faced Italian has given today at midday as the deadline: it’s High Noon in Madrid with the winner still to be decided.

“By midday [on Tuesday] there’ll either be an agreement or there won’t be”, he explained to impatient media itching to finally say whether or not Ronaldo makes the mooted move. “There are four problems and we either resolve those or there’s no deal”, he underlined.

These four problems are: the price – a million dollars separates the two sides, the method of payment, the interest rate and who pays the previous clubs the 5% of the transfer deal as stipulated by FIFA.

This goes to the two other previous clubs R9 has played for - FC Barcelona and Inter Milan: hence the reluctance on both sides to fork over money to an arch-rival.

Milan want to pay for the Fenômeno in four instalments whereas Real want the cash on the table, Real want 8 million Euros and Milan are willing to go up to 7 million and, obviously, each side wants to the other to cough up the bonus given the destination.

Aside from these stated objectives there is the obvious tense battle as neither side wants to leave the table feeling that they’ve lost big time. It’s a million dollar question that could be solved by high noon today – particularly if one of the players has an ace up his sleeve.

One such trump card could be a mutual non-aggression pact that would see Ramón Calderón swear off a Kaká chase - and the Rossoneri also promising no hostile signing raids on White House stars - that was the cornerstone of his electoral campaign at the White House, but is Calderón really ready to let go of his self-proclaimed dream?

In any negotiation, as in poker, there’s a certain blend of experience, patience, eagle-eyed awareness of what’s possible - plus an effective use of disinformation (bluffing) and an accurate estimation of what the other player actually has hidden in his hand.

It looks like Galliani is betting that Madrid are bluffing. With just one and a half full working days left until the transfer window closes until the summer the cards are almost all in view.

Milan's view is that Madrid will yield in order to shed the weighty problem that Ronaldo has been and allow Milan the edge in terms and conditions. Will they? All will be revealed soon…

How The Ronaldo Deal Means Madrid Pay Barça Or Milan Pay Inter

Although it seems that the Catalan club has nothing to do with any move that the Fenômeno may make back to old haunt Milan, it’s exactly the Blaugrana spectre that is causing indigestion at the White House.

If the deal goes through the Merengues could be forced to pay their arch-rivals for the pleasure – or AC Milan will have to cough a chunk of change up for Inter…

zoom - galleria The cause of this potential deal-souring connection lies in the so-called ‘solidarity mechanism’ adopted by FIFA and UEFA. The concept here is that clubs who have been responsible for nurturing the player through his formative years – 12 to 23 – will receive a share of any future transfer fees.

Ronaldo played for a total of five clubs between these ages: São Cristóvão and Cruzeiro in Brazil, then PSV Eindhoven, FC Barcelona and Inter Milan. Each club is liable to receive a slice of the potential Ronaldo move to Milan.

This depends on a number of weighting factors, but revolves around the time spent at each club when the player was between the stipulated ages. In plain English that means that a total of 5% of the player’s transfer value will be put aside and paid out to the ‘nurturing’ clubs.

São Cristóvão, Cruzeiro and PSV Eindhoven are slated to get 1% apiece, Internazionale getting 1.5% and FC Barcelona pocketing 0.5% respectively. This has interesting implications for the Ronaldo return to northern Italy and explains part of the slow negotiations.

AC Milan are determined not to see arch-enemies Inter profit from the deal when one of the morbid frills the transfer would have is to hit the Nerazzurri in the solar plexus. Real Madrid, likewise, aren’t over the moon about handing over a wad of cash to their Blaugrana nemesis.

The figures in question obviously differ depending on the value of the done deal – another bugbear in the talks between the two clubs for obvious collateral reasons. A 7 million deal would mean that Inter get 105,000 Euros and Barça 35, 000.

An 8 million deal, Real’s preferred option, would mean that Inter get 120,000 Euros and Barça 40,000. This is patently small change for such fat cats as Barça and Inter, but it’s the principle of the payment that is souring the deal.

After the Eto’o debacle wiped out any remaining smugness about Figo’s defection to the White House, Merengue fans aren’t in the mood to know that their club is giving a free handout to a sworn foe: no matter the size.

Galliani is equally eager to avoid giving any small satisfaction to a Moratti who has been wounded by his so-called ‘surrogate’ son’s betrayal. Pride is said to come before a fall and it looks as if the pride of both AC Milan and Real Madrid may lead to a fall.

It could be the deal itself, although that seems extremely unlikely, but what will fall will be one exec’s popularity with his management and fans. Whoever avoids paying an enemy can be considered to have won the moral high ground – and both are fighting the payout.
fresh_prince7
So at the moment the deal is looking something like..

Oli 4 Ronaldo + (Bojinov, Di Michele, Bonazzoli or Caracciolo)

This would be a massive step backwards considering how far back we are at the moment. Only bojinov would consolidate this stupidity. Juve will never let that happen, so that means were left with old useless players.

Oli getting so much abuse on the other milan forums. Unbelievable, guy hasn't even been given an opportunity. Give him an opportunity to start and he will score goals.

Forza Oli!

Ron deal takes Oliveira twist Tuesday 30 January, 2007

Real Madrid have reportedly asked Milan for Ricardo Oliveira to be included in the deal which will probably bring Ronaldo back to Italy.

Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galliani flew to Madrid on Monday for Ronaldo and talks between both clubs are continuing today.

It was thought that the delay in reaching an agreement was purely based on the size of the transfer fee, but it seems that Real have now asked for Oliveira.

The Madrid giants are looking for fresh options up front and do have a non-EU spot available for the Brazilian given the sale of defender Marcelo to Castilla.

Oliveira, who has only scored four times in five months for Milan, has struggled since his summer arrival from Real Betis.

Rossoneri sporting director Ariedo Braida has already returned to Milan in an attempt to find a replacement for Oliveira before they could possibly sell him to Real.

The Via Turati outfit are understood to be pondering bids for Andrea Caracciolo of Palermo, Fiorentina-owned Valeri Bojinov and Emiliano Bonazzoli of Sampdoria.

Bojinov and Bonazzoli would be eligible for Champions League action, which may be crucial seeing as Milan would only have Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi available for Europe if Oliveira leaves.

E il giocatore si è detto entusiasta di poter vestire la maglia rossonera: "Mi farebbe piacere giocare nel Milan; ma non so nulla, non sto seguendo la trattativa".

Apperantly Caracciolo's agent has said that their are negotiations with Milan.

So this would mean that Oli is on his way to Real.

This is so F@CKING ridiculous. Seriously CARACCIOLO!!! The guy that isn't good enough to even start for Palermo and we apperantly have the CL as our main objective. This is utterly ridiculous

Ronaldinho would be great...but Rijkaard? He's following the Beckenbauer coaching philosophy too much: Get on the field and play....

Yeah he is kind of .. TBH, I would love for Carlo to stay on for one more year, but if we end up w/ no honors .. Then I guess a new coch will come in; and the onlyt one that has been speculated about is , RIjkaard ... I kind of like the way he plays his formation, very attack minded
