Well he's playing as a proper wingback which is his natural position and what he excels at. So far he hasn't really been tested defensively
I'm actually really surprised at how Italy are playing right now. Don't want to jinx anything so I'll shut up about it

How many stadiums have hosted this tournament's games? I couldn't tell if 1 or 5, they all look the same.

Great half from Italy. Some wasted chances yes, but I don't think anyone expected this!
Now to convert one!
FORZA ITALIA!!

Casillas has been amazing, but we shouldn't be shocked by this!

I'm surprised that Spain didn't try to speed up the tempo. that's what causes Italy problems. (unless they blame the pitch for not being in optimal conditions after the game

)
Pirlo has been immense.
Italy better so far, but something tells me this is the calm before the storm. hope Italy aren't caught by surprise if Spain get into gear.

Yeah, that's what I'm waiting for. I think they'll come out swinging in the 2nd half.
Maybe they'll bring on a proper winger for their left side because Candreva and Maggio are taking care of Alba too easily, he's really another average defender that is shielded by the Barca system if you ask me

Alba is good at going forward IMO. he's still untested as a defender though.

I'm not bothered really, this is not an important tournament. besides, a Brazil-Spain final excites me more (we already had Brazil-Italy). there'll be no excuses for Brazil if they don't win it, they've had one more day to rest and didn't play 120 mins either.

But like ZD said... Brazil Spain will be a damn entertaining game, and it's not like Confederations Cup counts for much.

I'm still wondering why Spain played like they should only in ET? is it because Italy got tired and couldn't keep up, or was it Spain's gameplan not to waste too much energy before the HT? they created twice as many chances in ET as they did in normal time.

Because Italy had no strength to maintain their intelligent gameplan - hence it became easier to get involved in attacks. It was a great tactical setup by Prandelli. Man, he's really a maverick. Sometimes he's making unexplainable choices, but sometimes knows to hit the exact needed combination. Like a super-Allegri.

That is because Brazil and their fans dislike the Spanish game in general.

Or should I say, this Spanish team with its tiku takay pinga ponga. It's straining to the eyes. Being a fan of the Seleção (barely these days), I know this for a fact. In fact, ask Brazil NT fans and most would want to give Spain a good beating to show them who is boss.
This tournament is entirely different however. Brazil wanted Spain in the final to at least make a competitive match between both teams, which let's face it rarely happens. They got their wish, even though in all Spain fixtures in this tournament, Brazil fans in the stadium (and across the country) were booing Spain and their style of play.

Yeah, you're telling me. But this blowout was probably the best thing to happen to Brazil what with all the unrest going on right now.
In the past three Confed Cup finals, Brazil has scored ten goals and given up only three. That'll get it done every time.
Zed.D

If there was one team that could finally beat Spain, it was Brazil, in the final, in front of their own supporters in Maracana. every thing was set for this happen, but still I thought Spain were going to win given how they've dominated the world in the past 4-5 years.
It's the Micky Mouse cup and winning it doesn't mean much IMO, but what we can draw from this tournament is that we're witnessing the birth of another great Brazilian generation that comes long every 10 years or so. and they're all so young. credit to Scolari for not bringing along has beens like Kaka and Dinho, he knew what he was doing. next year with the World Cup being in Brazil again and with these players improving further, there'll be no stopping them.
Neymar dives and playacts a lot, but you gotta give it to him, he's the real deal. there should be no doubts about that anymore.
Fillipo Simone
Jul 1 2013, 09:31 AM
Birth of the next big generation? I think you're overreacting. The WC will tell us the real story, mind that in 2005 Brazil also won the Confed cup which ultimately meant nothing.
Jack Bauer
Jul 1 2013, 09:42 AM
Good to see Spain lose, it's about time.
Few years ago you'd think that Pato would be a sure thing in Brazil squad for the next WC by now, I still hope that maybe a good year in Brazil next season will give him a shot.
