Agreed. smile.gif Nice to see there is a place for pure love in this day and age, and particularly for footballers. Same goes with Nesta, he found his wife when he was recovering from injury. If a supermodel really loves you, then fine, if it's just about the money and virtually unlimited shopping sprees, not so much.

QUOTE (Football Italia)
Thiago Silva: 'Milan for life'

Thiago Silva has become a rock in the Milan defence and pledged to resist overseas offers. “I’d love to follow Paolo Maldini’s footsteps.”

The Brazilian already impressed in his first season at San Siro and has been a key figure in their Scudetto push.

“It’s true that I now play in a relaxed manner even without Alessandro Nesta by my side, as I have more confidence in my abilities than last season,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Nesta is unique and often talks to me on the pitch. I still remember my first friendly against Varese, as he didn’t stop giving me advice and instructions for a moment.

“I even got annoyed that time and told him he was giving me a headache, but I’m used to it now!”

Thiago Silva has been repeatedly linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Milan and the defender are resisting the big money offers.

“I like the idea of becoming a symbol of the club. I’d be happy just winning half of what Maldini won in his career, so I’d love to follow his footsteps.

“I did start out as a midfielder, but now I only play there when the team needs me to. It’s fun going forward every now and then to have a shot on goal.”

The Brazil international hailed more of his Milan teammates and welcomed probable summer signing Paulo Henrique Ganso from Santos.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic has brought a winning mentality to the side. Right from the first game he told us we always had to win everything, so if we do get the Scudetto it will be primarily down to him.

“I don’t think Alexandre Pato is missing anything to be considered a phenomenon, as he is the complete striker. He has even learned how to defend.

“I spoke to Ganso a couple of days ago and confirmed he should join us, but he knows perfectly well it’s the best choice. Ganso and Neymar are the best Brazilians around right now.

“Kaka is fast and explosive, whereas Ganso is better at keeping hold of the ball. He can become the new Zinedine Zidane.”

Nesta used to give Silva headaches.
Pato has "even" learned to defend.
Ganso could become the new Zizou.

This was one fun interview to read. FORZA SILVA!! devil.gif

Danny
Has grown and grown and can safely say he is one of the top 5 defenders in the world, and part of the best defence on Earth (Brazil).

Definitely one to hold onto and must be worth a fortune now.

Just came across two videos of Thiago Silva that I liked and so I decided to post them:

Good that we tied him down, next should be Pato, who imo has a ridiculous contract compared to some players

Barca goes for Thiago Silva

With Rossi tied up , very close and positions with Villarreal, the focus is on strengthening the defense with Milan's Brazilian Thiago Silva. Puyol's knee, leaving the team Gaby Milito and Abidal recent illness, makes hiring an essential defense.

It is true that with Busquets and Mascherano, but they are emergency measures such as fullbacks. The quarry, with players like Bartra, Muniesa or Fontás, is another option but in individual cases as they will be shot at the highest level yet.

The central objective is Milan's Brazilian Thiago Silva, a player who liked last year that Guardiola and Real Madrid are also interested. International, is a fixture of the Italian champion, has been renewed until June 2016.

No competition
The Italian club would not let him go for less than 25 million euros, but the club will not find much competition in the fight to sign him. Chelsea, who also claimed, no longer a priority after signing David Luiz, who was active defense at Benfica.

Thiago Silva arrived in Milan in 2008 from Fluminense in Brazil, but the Italian team had already covered the non-EU player quota and could not officially play until the 2009-2010 season.

In the coming days could result in an outcome. Barcelona could offer Maxwell, player not fit into the plans of Guardiola and is intended for Milan. The Brazilian has a very good lineup in Italy.

Yeah, read that earlier today. smile.gif I don't know what to laugh at most: The hopelessly broken English translation, the figure of 25 million, or the fact that Barcelona (or anyone) thinks they can get Thaigo Silva in the first place. biggrin.gif I'm not sure the guy will ever leave, or at least not until he has won a CL or two with us in the next few years.

Even then, it is unimaginable and an unthinkable notion really. Why would we let go of the world's finest defender?!

I might consider it if they offer a package of Xavi+Messi and cash smile.gif

The thought of this Barca + Thaigo just plain scares me.

That said, they can look somewhere else for a defender. we'll be damned if we let him go!

Piquet and Thiago, both able to push forward, would be a great duo. Hopefully it will only be in their dreams.
Fillipo Simone
The best defender since Baresi most definitively is Nesta, at least in Milan terms. I know we all like Thiago, I'm a big fan, but he's gotta achieve and prove much more to be in the same league with the mentioned guys. He took the right path with this amazing season.

True, he's going in the right direction. He has the potential be in the same league but maybe after at least 5 seasons with Milan. It's too early to say he's at par with the legends.

Yeah I saw that in the goal.com article but did not bother commenting, it's just hype. How can he surpass Nesta with one great season?
X-Offender
The best since Baresi? What about Maldini and Nesta? Duh...
Zed.D
I think if there was an absolute peak in the art of defending (or something like that!!) set by the likes of Maldini and Nesta, Silva reached it this past season. in other words I can't imagine a defender being better than this. but he needs to maintain this level for several years at least. I personally think he can, but until he hasn't done it no one can crown like the stupid goal.com article does.

Silva had a great great season, and is definitely one of the most valuable defenders around. He must be worth £50M going by the silly values players have now. But I'm not getting hysterical about him - he's got to keep doing this before we can truly wax lyrical about him. The Maldini and Baresi comparisons are over the top imho.

Agreed.

But I believe that he'll keep it up and eventually reach that level that Nesta and Maldini have. I mean you can't be as good as Silva was this season, with it being just a fluke season.
Zed.D
Why everyone only mentions this season by the way? he was very good last season as well. though he made an awful mistake against Roma if anyone remembers, but that doesn't change the outcome.
Fillipo Simone
Because this one was as near as anyone can get to perfect. Last season was very good, but there were some bad results as well to spoil it.
Danny
I find his rise to immortality (he's getting there) to be rather staggering. Before Milan he had a topsy turvy career blighted by injury - he struggled at various Brazilian clubs, then had a bad time at Dynamo Moscow.

Somehow he's managed a move to a huge club from all this, and has suddenly become an absolute gem with some imperious performances.

If you look back at his history, there was no real evidence to suggest how good he was capable of being. Our scouting setup must be psychic.

Put it on the traitor. dry.gif Love him or hate him, Leo was instrumental in us securing Kaka', Pato and Silva. Without doubt the last three of our best buys. Brazil loves the man, and listens when he speaks, he is kind of a Golden Boy there. If he was still here as a scout, Ganso wouldn't surely be saying that he is weighing his options.

Agree with everything except the last paragraph. I'm not sure about it cause I remember a few months before we signed him, he was considered to be a hot property. but yeah, to sign him for 10 million... genius! I wonder why other European clubs didn't go after him (except Inter. Silva said himself he was negotionating with them, and then Leo called...)

Thiago Silva 'Barca words distorted'

Thiago Silva’s agent has reassured supporters “he is very happy at Milan and his words were distorted” regarding talks with Barcelona.
The fans were stunned when stories emerged from Brazil that he had told TV Esporte Interativo he was in negotiations with the Nou Camp side.

“I want to calm everyone straight away,” agent Paulo Tonietto told Calciomercatoweb and the official Milan website.

“His words were distorted and came from his answer to a question that was badly interpreted by the interviewer and newspapers.

“Thiago Silva is very happy at Milan and only recently renewed his contract. If he did not intend to respect it, he wouldn’t have renewed to 2016.

“Besides, at this moment he is probably the most expensive player in the world. There is absolutely nothing in this story.

“His only thoughts are for the Copa America this summer, then winning the Champions League with Milan. It won’t be easy, but it is an important objective for the whole team.”

http://www.football-italia.net/jun14y.html

Nothing to worry about.
Jack Sparrow
Who was worried? He's the first Brazilian since Dida who I genuinely believe we can trust to stick around. Somehow Brazilian defenders seem to be more grounded than their mid-field and attack counterparts.

They're quiet, professional family men, who know where to focus on. I guess that's why they became defenders and people like R80 and Robinho became magical forwards.

Silva commits to Milan – until 2020!

A possible move to Barcelona is the last thing on the mind of Milan centre-back Thiago Silva. “I want to stay here.”

The Brazilian international is consistently being paired with the Nou Camp outfit given his status as one of the world’s best defenders.

However, speaking to Milan Channel, the 27-year-old has committed his future to the reigning Italian champions.

“My plans are to remain here until June 2016 and then I’d like to renew my contract for another four years,” he stated.

“I actually hope that Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani is watching this interview so he knows what steps to take.”

Silva, formerly of Juventude, Porto and Dynamo Moscow, joined Milan for the 2009-10 campaign from Fluminense.

He’s scored twice in 19 games for the Diavolo across all competitions so far this season.

Slightly worries me that he's quite a mouthy person, same goes for his agent as well

The contracts signed why doesn't he just leave it at that? Makes it looks like he and his agent are aiming everything at Barcelona to come in with silly money. He gets a move and his agent rakes it in. Just can't understand some of his comments. Great he's staying lets move on
Jack Sparrow
Haha. Nah..he can't win. You see if he says, Barca are a great club and he is grateful for the interest, he sounds ungrateful. If he says he is gonna respect his contract it means, he will jump on a free.

Basically there is little he can say that will not be misinterpreted.
Bluesummers
I don't see him really leaving. He's set to be the next captain after ambro and gattuso. His style of play suits the Italian league perfectly and he's at a club that adores brazillians. He is getting paid quite well too.

The only way I can see him leaving is if we all of a sudden decide shipping stars out and replacing them with mid table players, which I hope doesn't happen.

Adriano Galliani admits Milan “must resist a genuine siege for Thiago Silva, as a queue of European clubs are ready to go crazy for the Brazilian.”

He is considered among the best defenders in the world right now and has in particular been heavily linked with Barcelona.

“We must resist a genuine siege for Thiago Silva, as a queue of European clubs are ready to go crazy for the Brazilian,” Milan Vice-President Galliani told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

However, according to the Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport, the Rossoneri could capitulate if the offers go up to around €40m.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have joined Barcelona in the bidding

war.

It is reported Milan have already turned down proposals worth €30m.

Every transfer windows we have to deal with the fear of losing one of our stars to those money rich monsters. it sucks being a club in financial crisis these days.
han2503
I have a bad feeling about this, not that we'll lose Thiago, but that Galliani and co will use him as an excuse

The usual: "We resisted selling Thiago in this financial climate, be happy about that, because we can't compete with the other clubs"

We need some serious investment this summer. We've lost a lot of players, big players. If Silvio does not want to keep sustaning the Club than he should seek financial backing
Jack Sparrow
Well those 'rumoured' reports did say something about this. The thing is we can't expect financial backing to pop out of the air in the space of one season break. I'm confident something is being worked on in the background.
