Surely that wouldn't matter anyway. My country is called England, it's the name of it, so why is it also known as Angleterre?

This may sound far-fetched to some but if we get a solid CB in the summer I'd try Silva on the right. He used to play there earlier in his career and you can see that he knows how to advance when he decides to take the ball up the field himself. All I'm saying is, it would not hurt to try playing him there...

Neh... with Bonera and Abate we got 2 good options for rightback. Thiago Silva will most likely develop into one of the best central backs in his generation, IMO. He's too good to put on rightback.

I hope we sign a central back, who has world class potential, and can replace Nesta when he retires. Kjær is my first choice. Although he is solid already, of course.

You probably have not watched any other fullbacks if you really think Bonera and Abate are good options! You must be young too, you can't have watched Cafu and Serginho play for us...
Bonera and Abate are barely not bad at RB, it's not even their natural position. We desperately need new full-backs, these two just can't play in that position for a top team.

No, that's not what I meant.

I have seen Cafu and Serginho play for us. Of course, they are obviously better than all our fullbacks. But Abate has got a lot of potential as rightback IMO, Bonera of course is a CB though he is a good backup for RB, and Antonini is playing good this season. But of course, we really need another fullback, who can play leftback. But I just think Thiago Silva's future should be at CB, that's my main point.

Now I read my response back, I really should have mentioned Antonini + a new left/fullback.
dst
I also think Silva is developing into a great CB but good fullbacks are harder to find so my point is, if we sign another solid CB, why not try Silva on the right, at least in a couple summer friendlies.
CHU-LIP
I might be dreaming saying this, but one new fullback is enough to me: Lahm

Lahm, Thiago Silva, Nesta, Antonini seems awesome to me... Lahm and Hoeneß are not the biggest friends nowadays... Lahm is the perfect fullback for us. *dreaming* *dreaming*

Since Lahm and Hoeneß are bashing each other I have such a huge sympathy for Lahm biggrin.gif
Jack Sparrow
Yup...Lahm is pretty good. I wonder why I didn't think of him. And it's not like Munich are our worst enemies either. If they keep Ribery, we might be able to tempt them if we offer Kaladze and Janku.

Question is: how bad do we want Dzeko and the Centre Midfielder. Enough to not pay 25 million for Lahm? (I'm sure it will be in the 20s the price)

EDIT: This is where dst comes in and tells us why Lahm sucks and he could play better at RB than Lahm. tongue.gif

I don't watch Bayern in the Bundesliga so I don't know how he's doing on a regular basis. I've seen him play some excellent matches though. He's good but not the type of FB I truly like.

I agree based on the second part of what you say. Try him out over the summer at RB and see how it goes. I'd be totally against just throwing him out there.

Does anybody know what number he wears for brazil? I wanna buy a TS jersey for this summer, but I dont' know what his number is sad.gif

The only type of RB you like is you...

Of course! biggrin.gif

It's not actually Lahm's type or whatever that I do not like. I just want FB's to be stronger in defense than he is. Lahm seems to be running after attackers, I want them to run to defend when my FB has already stripped them of the ball.
LaPalma
No running for defenders? huh.gif Sounds like a relaxing job.

Thiago Silva : Milan is my family

QUOTE
Smiling before the Milan Channel cameras at Milanello. Thiago Silva looks at the first page of Marca and says: “Milan is my home, it is my family, I am staying here until at least 2014.”

Thiago Silva sat before the Milan Channel cameras at Milanello today and maintained that he was more than content at the club despite the rumours in the Spanish press concerning a move to La Liga. The defender said: “I feel settled here. I had a good season last year. It is the first time I have seen this newspaper and I do not know anything. The only thong I know is that I’m focused only and always on Milan and want to stay here until at least 2014, which is the current expiry date of my contract. I am here at Milan and I feel really at home, as if Milan was really my family, my second family. I am fine here.”

The Brazilian then turned to other issues: “It has been said that I am an idol for the Milan fans? I thank them, for me it is important to know. I think I did well last year but this year I want to do better and better. I’m fine now, I already started training in the last days of my stay in Brazil before returning to Milanello. I feel ready to do my first workout with Allegro. I will meet our new coach this afternoon, I am looking forward to this year because I hope that Milan will do well and excel. I believe that Milan this year is a bit stronger than last year’s because two or three quality players have arrived which can help us. We can and must do everything better, even as a group because we all have more experience than last year. ”

Thiago Silva also spoke about his first impressions of coach Allegri’s methods: “I saw that in London our defence defended pretty high, this is a good thing. If we have the ball as close as possible to the attacking midfield, we are actually closer to the opponent’s goal and our goal must always be to stay that way: to score. What about the World Cup in South Africa? Yes, I expected, and hoped to play more. But this is football and then Lucio and Juan were among the strongest central defenders in the world. Now I hope to be picked for the national team, and do well in Brazil. I hope that me and Pato play more for the national side. I must say that Alexandre has started the season strongly, he has been consistent and constantly improving, I absolutely want to be with him in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with our national team.” - link

Yep. Our management ar terrible, but there's no loyalty in players anymore. Even the 'loyal' ones are usually only 'loyal' because their team wins alot.

I have the impression that he really wants to stay. But even I that wont get a penny from his selling, would sell him for an offer higher than 35 mil.

He's not worth half of that. He was great at th start of last season but regularly made mistakes in the middle of the season.

Yep.

I was a big fan of his wen he first joined and was very impressed by the start of his Milan career. He did go through a very poor spell last season though. If Silva is worth 35m, then other defenders like Maicon, Ramos or Puyol are worth well over 50m, which isn't ery realistic.

Only in a world where every bottle of water is filled with dope and drugs Puyol is worth more than Thiago Silva. Puyol is 32 years old, Thiago Silva 25. First of all, do you see the age difference????? Second, I would never call Puyol better than Thiago Silva. Maicon surely is immense awesome, though he is already 29 years old, so Maicon is the only one who you can call better than Silva IMO but the age difference makes the difference in worth between the two not very big. Sergio Ramos played an awesome World Cup, but Thiago Silva seems better to me, but Ramos is known for his talent and is only 24 years old, but I wouldn't say he is worth more than Silva.
Fishdoll
I don't think any valuations of footballers are realistic these days.

Without meaning to needle Kurt (too much), the 35 or so million being quoted for Milner is outrageous, to cite an English example. And if Real comes sniffing around, a club would be stupid not to add 25-50% to their asking price for a player. Because Real would probably end up paying it if they were interested.

The Reals and Citys of the world are skewing the prices to a ridiculous degree.

I agree. Milner is worth more £20m and Silva £15m if it were down to me. £30m or so should be for the real top guys. And yes, before I get any snarky comments, I do believe Milner is a better player than Silva.

Sorry Chu, I'm gonna have to put it down to bias on your part. Silva isn't even in the same league as Puyol/Ramos for me.

What a ridiculous way to respond after I made some very good points like age (which you totally ignored and which made your previous post ridiculous on a very high level). Why should be my post bias just because I seem to disagree with you? There are enough Milan players who I will rate very lowly.

Do you really believe a 32 year old Puyol is worth more than a 25 year old Thiago Silva?

I agree with CHU-LIP, kurt. Puyol is a better player overall with vast experience and have won lots of championships. In that sense he is more valuable. But in monetary sense, due to his age it should be lower than Silva's. And Silva is not just some defender.

Oh come on kurt! Now that is biased!! Thiago is worth far more then Milner! He isn't even the best winger on your team!!

Plus Thiago is a top quality central defender, something that is hard to come by these days plus he's still young compared to the other top defenders around. Imo we shouldn't sell Thiago for any price but his worth is near the 30m mark because just as the fish pointed out, prices have become overly inflated. Which means if they can spend nearly 65m for Kaka they will spend 35m for a defender.

Either way if we sell Thiago it would be the stupidest move we've made in quite a while, forget Gourcuff and Kaka, this would be the one that takes the cake

Agreed. An absolute 'NO' to selling Thiago from me as well.

Sell Thiago, sell Nesta...buy an Airbus A380 and park it in front of goal. Defensive problems solved for at least the next 30 years.

He's not going anywhere, were not stupid. We paid 10m to bring him here for a reason, were not just going to let him go after one season.

He's a fan favorite too, he's not going anywhere.
