Second Serie A leg, first Milan away match at Luigi Ferraris.

The game will be at 3pm Milan time (2pm UK time, 9am Eastern Daylight Time).

Remember last year?

(quick edit to fix date of match)

We better win this game. We had a disastrous start today. But we have to win this one to get the morale going and the rhythm started. Kaka's going to be back for this one, right?

Imo Nesta is more important right now. I'm hoping we get him back for this one

Even last year we won twice against them. This shouldn't be such a hard effort.

Btw. anyone knows who the last team (in Serie A) was to win the scudetto after loosing the opener?
Darunia
Hopefully Kaka and Nesta are back.

Abbiati
Zambrotta Nesta Bonera Jankulovski
Flamini Pirlo Ambrosini
Kaka Ronaldinho
Pato

If we don't win this game.. Carlo needs to be sacked! ohmy.gif

It's not as simple as that kurt. I think he made some horrible decisions today regarding the formation but we have our best defender out, who without we basically have no defence, and the team need to find some rythem to playing with eachother. Since we didn't have anytime to test out tactics with the new players I'm afriad the first few games will be a bit of crash course, hopefully things get sorted before the derby...
kurtsimonw
Carlo had all of last season to 'get it right', and he didn't. Carlo is very lucky this is the start of the new season and people only see it as "1 bad game", when in reality, Carlo has been putting out a poor team with poor tactics for about the last 40.

He won't be sacked until the end of the season, and even then he won't be sacked as it's more likely he'll leave. But we need a change of idea for sure.
acid911
Of course, that's wishful thinking, Kurt. biggrin.gif Carlo? Sacked? Middle of the season? Don't quite think so. If things don't work out, he'll honorably leave at the end of the season. We don't throw away our players, let alone coaches.

But damn, is he lucky, or what? With the management at least. If I had half his luck, I'd be Bill Gates.

Are you implying that our management is plain moron? Cuz if you are, then I'll give you a +1.

I think Kurt's actually right. Silvio will sack Carlo if neccessary, even after let's say 4 or 5 matches. Don't forget that he has Donadoni and Rijkaard both just waiting for the green light. That's also the main reason I won't be happy the day Carletto leaves (besides the fact that I do love him.. cool.gif )

That's a scary thought.

Still p!ssed we missed out on Mourinho just by a season... If he were to have been available a season later, there is no doubt that he would have chosen Milan over Inter given the chance

Why thank you, please send over the +1. tongue.gif Not very much, but I like the man. Carlo Ancelotti. But that doesn't hide the fact that he finished 4th and 5th in the league consecutively. That's certainly not acceptable for a club like Milan, and when we pay millions every year to Carlo. Our management can be a bit blind sometimes, but they're seeing through things now.

And I certainly hope Carlo is too. He'll know when it's time to move on. He isn't stupid. dry.gif But I wish he delivers a couple of titles before he leaves, and we get someone new at the top.

Yeah, I know Fillipo you love the guy. sad.gif But he just isn't performing. I mean you can't beat a Serie B club at home? The first match of the season? Fresh players, and everything. Dropping all three points? It were these three points that came back and bit us in the back. Two points did, as a matter of fact.

Relax. biggrin.gif We can always try and get that douche bag Gullit over. He speaks too much, but was a good player in his time, and maybe could fit in the Milan system at the very least as well as Mourinho.

But I hope we can try someone like um, Leonardo. huh.gif And Baresi, of course, when he's ready. But Leo wouldn't be that bad, now, would he? Don't know his coaching credentials and tactics, but he's be one I'd like to see either get Galliani's job. Or Carlo's, for that matter.

Oh, and super pic, Fillipo. king.gif I remember that match very well. My prediction for this one? Any will do, as long as we win. Thank you.

Of course we will smile.gif

First game of the season, doesn't say much about the title race ... You will only know who the top dogs are during December .. Right now, its important that the team is not rotated a lot and that the team build up some chemistry.

Anybody know when Nesta will be back ?

No exact date has yet been given, just an indication from the medical staff that both Kaka and Nesta are both recuperating on schedule and with the international break coming up, its likely (or hopeful) that they can be back in time for Genoa.

Nope. We still miss Tennie you know, she's the one with the inside job informations.

Anyway, can someone tell me which was the last team to win the scudetto after loosing the first match? (I think in some point, I've asked this question today, but it still is bugging me)
Fillipo Simone
I found it!

Goodness gracious me! It was Torino way back in season 1975/76.. Torino lost their opener match 1-0 against...Bologna! ohmy.gif

And while I was checking it out...we blew today our Nr.16 scudetto 10-anniversary. In 98/99 we opened our campaign winning against Bologna at home 3-0. That was the beginning of a wonderfull season,.. sad.gif

That Scudetto was great particularly because we didn't have the best team in the world, especially defence (aside from Paolo) and midfield (aside from Boban and Albertini)

Btw, we lost to Bologna in the 04/05 season also.

Personally I don't think it's a will effect our title hopes, like R7 said, the team still need to establish some form of chemistry, this goes down to the fact that only 2 of our new players really played in pre-season. So it will take some time. I'm hoping we get Nesta back for Genoa, so that even if we miss a couple we could grind out a result. But we really need to get into working order fast, before the derby.

We're luck that none of the other Scudetto contenders have taken off yet so we're not already trailing by 3 points
CrazyMilanFan
maybe borrilleo time against genoa

Yeah. Mr. MLS Gullit. laugh.gif And I understand what you say, but I was only being sarcastic. Or trying to be. As amazing a player Gullit was, he wasn't half as respectful a man. That's why fans remember Van Basten and Rijkaard more than him.

You're right. Lucky were are. For now. But luck never won any team the Scudetto. Quote me on this. wink.gif Sooner or later, we'll have to pick up, get our mojo working, and start some winning streaks if we want to stay in the race. And more importantly stop dropping stupid points against small teams.

Rijkard wasn't a role model player either (behaviour-wise), he also had his fair share of misbehaviour. But I guess he has calmed down now somewhat.
He had 2 spitting incidents if I am not mistaken in his day!

Ditto. More so than Gullit, at least. dry.gif Maybe it was just their personality, or they got a tad jealous of all the heaps of media/fan attention on MvB. Either way, Rijkard is number two on my list of the Dutch trio of that time. Gullit had his moments and lots of them.

Very good players, still, but I'd rather not have them as coach. Thank you. wink.gif Even MvB, he needs to learn a thing or two about player management. Which in a club like Milan means much.

Aha. I thought the match was next week. dry.gif Yeah, I'd like to see what he brings to the table. Or maybe rest him up until the derby match? We'll see.
Zed.D
Carlo made a big mistake in playing Pippo ahead of Pato yesterday. he's more responsible for the defeat than the defenders because he should've scored at least three goals. hopefully Carlo won't repeat the same mistake against Genoa. Kaka will most probably be back for that game, so we can field one striker. I'd like it to be this way: Pato/Sheva/Borriello/Pippo.
acid911
Too bad Carlo thinks otherwise. dry.gif I had a feeling that Inzaghi was going to start. In fact, I sure as hell knew it.
Tennie
Re Pato: He didn't look particularly good when he did come on (sorry, zd, that's how I saw it). The comment in Gazzetta was something along the lines of 'Pato needs to rediscover his form of 6 months ago. Quickly.'.

re: Nesta - the Milan doctor has said that he's started running on a special surface. It's a good sign -- Kaka was doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago so progress is being made. He won't be back for this game, though.

Borriello and Kaka may be back for this one - though 'back' is a relative term as even if they're healthy they won't be match fit.

I'd actually keep the for the derby. wink.gif Maybe one match before that to gain match fitness and drop the rustiness, but surely not our second or third outing.
Bluesummers
right you are dozer, but they need some match time eh. Then the'll be real good for the match. But for now just chill take a pill with dinho and the game will come eh dozer. droolsmiley.gif

long from now but i think the formation will be this:

-----abbiati--------------

zambro-maldini-kaladze-janku

-flamini--pirlo--ambro

--seadwarf------r80

-------pato----------

bench: bonera, cardaccio, viudez(hes finally elligble), sheva, inzaghi

prediction 2-1 milan

oh and i almost forgot dozer eh droolsmiley.gif
