Gattuso curses French progress

Gennaro Gattuso has just one cloud over his evening – helping France to reach Euro 2008 and eliminate his beloved Scotland.

“I am proud of the qualification we have achieved with this squad,” said the midfielder after Italy’s 2-1 win in Glasgow.

“But I am really annoyed because I know we also helped France to go through.”

Gattuso spent a year at Glasgow Rangers at the start of his career and married a local girl, but even stronger than his love for the country is his dislike of Les Bleus.

“Raymond Domenech is always being such a pain and he really did not deserve to reach the finals.

“Now I hope to meet France at Euro 2008 so we can teach them all a lesson.”

I too feel sad that Scotland didn't go through .. hehe sad because Gattuso is sad tongue.gif

But yeah .. I'd love for an Italia- France rematch .. ( I don't think ill enjoy a France game ever again .. Zidane sad.gif )

p.s. Spain score again sad.gif

Domenech: I motivated Italy

Raymond Domenech has taken the credit for Italy and France both reaching Euro 2008. “At least they were useful for once.” ohmy.gif

The Bleus boss has made a habit of sniping comments towards the Azzurri, especially after the World Cup Final won on penalties in Germany.

Italy’s 2-1 victory in Scotland automatically qualified both Roberto Donadoni’s side and France for the tournament.

“They won because my words motivated them,” smiled Domenech, who had suggested this week that Italy were ‘draw specialists.’

“I didn’t see the game, as I prefer not to force myself to sit through too many ugly things. I feel both relieved and frustrated, as to be honest I would have preferred to play the last game in Ukraine with the need for a result.

“This is the strength of our squad, the ability to hold out under pressure, when we are afraid of elimination. I shall miss that sensation.”
mad.gif

If Italy had drawn in Glasgow, France simply needed to avoid defeat in Kiev on Wednesday evening, but now that tie and the Azzurri’s against the Faroe Islands only serve to decide which of the two teams top Group B.

“I am happy anyway, as if we are qualified today then it means that we deserved it,” concluded Domenech.

The hell did he mean, afraid of elimination mad.gif

Frenchy, I hope u meet Italia in the semis and make u cry all over again ! cool.gif

i think it was gallas the other day who was saying he was going for italy to go thru. i bet he was being sarcastic, or trying to jinx italy.

BTW this player said that what motivated them the most is the arrogants of Russian players before the game (in interviews).

Sweden will get 2nd place and go through .. But this match is really one sided, as if Sweden just shut off after the 2nd goal sad.gif

France are in a bit of a transition at the moment. Their top players are getting a bit old and their youngsters aren't quite fully developed yet, WC2010 is what they should be aiming at.

Congratulations to David Healy who broke the Euro qualifying scoring record today (Formaerly held by Davor Suker, with 12) who netted his 13th goal in qualifying for Northern Ireland.

Congratulations to the teams that have qualified so far.. (Along with hosts Switzerland and Austria).

Poland, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia, Spain, Romania and Holland

I don't see how France is a disgrace to the football world.
It's just that Domenech is a bitter little fellow with loads of inferiority issues.

btw, Gallas openly broke with Domenech couple of days ago.
Domenech wanted all his players to watch the Ukraine game, but Gallas said it was no chance of him not watching Scotland-Italy.

I just hate France, the attitude of the team and everything about them. tongue.gif

Obviously there's a few exceptions with the likes of Pires, Petit, JPP, Zidane, Platini, Anelka and Drjorkaeff that I really like(d) to watch play, but that's outweighed with the number of players who just act like completele idiots on the field and in the press. Domenech being the biggest idiot of all.

Fillipo, I saw the highlights of Croatia's game yesterday. The pitch was shcoking, one of the worst I've ever seen, especially when you consider it's an International teams. My local sunday league team would be ashamed of that!

There was no hope for you, a team that keeps the ball on the floor as passes it couldn't stand a chance.

Well, when it comes to matches against former Yugoslavia countries, it really does not matter if you have a secure pass to the finals or a bottom position. If you watch the goals by Macedonia - their players celebrate as if they have won something,..

Yeah, they did. It would have also been good to keep an unbeaten record in qualifying, especially since there's a few good countries in the group.

Talking of celebrating alot, do Israel dislike Russia or something? Their players seemed desperate to beat them.

Oh no, I'm not a communist at all,...but, simply said, Napoleon is a excellent leader and dictator who tryed to conquer Europe (which is pretty normal for the strong nations in the 19th century) and more. Stalin is a mass-murderer who transformed Lenin's USSR into, using Reagans phrase, "Evil Empire"...

So, of course you can compare personas from different times, but you allways have to keep the time-context in mind. Napoleon's policy was, for the 18/19 century regular and in a way acceptable. Stalin's policy in the 20th century,..not!

News on the England team.

-Robinson was bad in training yesterday, he's been dropped. Carson has been given the nod to start in goal.

-Ferdinand, Terry and Neville are all definetly out in defense. Richards, Campbell and Lescott look set to start. With Ashley Cole/Wayne Bridge at left back (I really don't know if Cole's injured or not!) So our starting back 4 could all be out. rolleyes.gif

-McLaren refuses to name the rest of his team, though.

i've read that mclaren's doubts are:

1) carson/robinson
2) beckham/wright-phillips

the defending couple should be campbell - lescott...croatia though should play in their best x11, we'll see

I honestly hope that England-Croatia is a good game tomorrow.

I'll look forward to seeing who McClaren fields and how they line up against a pretty darn good Croatia. (psst, Fester, watch the game and then BUY US SRNA).

I suspect Milan's Simic will be given a start in this one for Croatia.

Not Euro2008 but..

Portugal U21s - England U21s are playing now, England have won all 5 of their games so far, without conceeding. The geniuses at Sky Sports have decided to show the Wales U21s instead though, fantastic. rolleyes.gif

EDIT:
Portugal U21s 1-0 England U21s
Vieirinha (Pen) '3

What!? We've conceeded!
Tennie
Dude, they've got Moutinho playing for the U21s. Sometimes Nani does too. Looks like Antunes also is this time (he's now playing for AS Roma). They've got a godo side. smile.gif
kurtsimonw
They are good, and we've got injuries (Gabbi's not playing cry.gif) but even still, we should be able to beat anyone really, we have the players at that level!

The France U21s have just equalised according to livescore.com a penalty from Gourcuff, I assume it's the same guy that plays for Milan!

EDIT: I decided to put the Wales U21/France U21 game on, and it was fantastic. France took the lead, Wales then scored 2 in the space of a few minutes to re-take the lead.. The future looks bright for France, they're losing to the might Wales. laugh.gif

EDIT 2: Penalty for Wales, keeper should have been sent off as well. 4-2 Wales, a hat-trick for Evans. FT. biggrin.gif
kurtsimonw
Portugal U21s 1-1 England U21s. Adam Johnson with the equaliser!
Rossoneri7
Apparently Milan had sent a scout out to the Spain - Sweden game on Saturday .... As things stand, milan are keen on Sergio Ramos, but Madrid have reiterated that Ramos is not for sale !

The funny thing is, no one from Milan have claimed that they are interested in him ... I doubt he'll come to Milan, especially with the incident of Kaka' and all .... But it would be funny if he signed biggrin.gif

Caveat: This is information from goal.com (link) and goal isn't always especially reliable.

England coach Steve McClaren has supposedly named his starting XI for the game with Croatia.

According to the article, here it is:
Carson
Richards, Lescott, Campbell, A Cole
Wright-Phillips, Gerrard, Barry, Lampard, J Cole
Crouch

It seems to me that he's made some smart choices and at least one I think is not a good idea. The pluses? Starting Carson in goal and Barry in midfield. Barry has been far more effective than Hargreaves and, well, my fish doll would probably do better than poor Paul Robinson at this point. Also, no sign of David Beckham, which I also consider a plus since he is in no way match-fit.

However, he's starting Gerrard and Lampard in midfield. This doesn't ever seem to have worked so I don't see why he's doing it again.

I had a feeling of the 1 man up front. I'm not sure what's wrong with the Gerrard/Lampard combo, at Euro 2004 the pair of them were great, they even had Paul Scholes starting, too, so there was no real width and it still worked.

This team should be able to get the point needed.
