d an oppinion can never be wrong, if your oppinion is that the sky is hot pink than that is your oppinion and I can't tell you that you're wrong.

An opinion can be wrong if you claim a false statement is an opinion.

You're mixing up factual comments with subjective analysis.

As I said to Kurt, if someone says Messi is quite simply a rubbish footballer then that is plain wrong. It's not an opinion, it is a fact that Messi is not a rubbish footballer. Indeed, in the past I didn't really rate him that highly myself because every time I'd seen him, I was underwhelmed. But rather than say 'in my opinion he isn't that good' I said 'every time I've seen him I've been underwhelmed'. The first would be a silly view to have, the second an accurate analysis of what I'd witnessed. Mainly because in the few matches I'd seen he hadn't done much.

Likewise the sky is not pink, and if anyone says that in their opinion it is, they have extremely poor mental health. It is a fact the sky is blue. Unless you are colour blind in which case the sky is whatever colour you see. But factually culture tells us it is blue. Evidence proves that. And someone who is colourblind will accept it, if unable to see it for themselves. But they wouldn't say the opinion of 6 billion other people is wrong.

Inalienable truths are facts - don't mix them up with opinions.

That's a pretty arrogant view of things.

So what if I think Messi is rubbish for example? That's my view and oppinion you can think I'm insane all you want but at the end of the day you're still not going to change my mind about it no matter how much you argue with me.

Then your opinion would be worthless.

My view isn't arrogant in the slightest, to suggest 'in my opinion the sky is pink' is a quite absurd bedrock to build your argument from. It's a fact it isn't pink - like me saying 'in my opinion water isn't essential for life on earth'. That would be a load of crap - not an opinion, but a false statement masquerading as one.

If you think Messi is rubbish then quite simply your opinion is just the same - rubbish.

There are facts, and there are opinions.

I can live with the sky and water thing, but not about Messi.

What if I don't like the type of player he is? The level of the league he plays in? The players he has around him? His international record?

If my oppinion is that he's not as great as people make him out to be then who are you to tell me my oppinion is rubbish simply because you view something as being "fact"?

I don't like him especially either but if you're a football fan, which you clearly are, and you actually think a man who has broken Muller's record is rubbish then there is literally no argument you can make which validates such a stupid comment.

But curiously you are now trying to subtly shift your argument from 'rubbish' to 'disliking the type of player' and 'he's not as great as his reputation'. THOSE are valid opinions and views.

But to call him 'rubbish' would undermine every single opinion you've ever held about anything.
acid911

I was never a fan of Messi, as most around here know - I'm a Ron man all the way. But in the way the sky is blue and the grass is green, it is a fact that Messi is not 'rubbish'.

Have you ever heard of exxagerating a bit to get your point accross? wink.gif

Never thought we'd end up having a discussion on the meaning of opinions versus facts of life. In regards to the sky, maybe it's sunset and it's got that pink hue going on, would it be so much of a stretch if someone's opinion on that shade of pink is "hot pink"? smile.gif

As for Messi, don't think that I do personally think these things, because I certainly don't. But so what if someone says that he's rubbish? Would I think that person is stupid? Sure, but if that is truely how that person feels I can argue with him until I'm blue in the face and still he wouldn't change his opinion on Messi. That's my point.

Just like me and kurt can argue on the Napoli squad vs our squad issue until the end of the world (which conveniently is next Friday tongue.gif) and still we won't change each other's opinion on the issue at the end of the day

I usually write a post and immediately press the add reply button without checking it over. For some reason I check the spelling and grammar after I post it and then make the edit after. Don't ask me why, it's a terrible forum habit.

When I don't check it over I'm usualy caught out by the thorn in by backside called acid. Don't tell me you're about to take a place as his assistant!! biggrin.gif

Also, my wireless keyboard does not help as when the battery is on it's final breath, the key presses don't always take

Don't be so hard on Mike Danny. Let's not forget how this place started. Mike continued developing it to what it has become, and sure it's not everyone's ideal forum for the modern time, but he didn't have to keep this site up for as long as he has; it remains 'usable' and informative site although not the most functional one.
I am sure he has alot of other things on his plate as well (proof in his limited appearances compared to a few years back), but trust me (as acid said as well) once Mike gets a chance he will continue to work on improving the forum. wink.gif

Pato is the best player in the Universe period

This sector is an embarrassment to the multiverse
ANY sector where the anomaly that is Allegri (as out of place as Rebecca Black/Justin Beiber in any musical setting) is the coach of Milan is an embarrassment

Me$$! = CR@P
CR@P for the purposes of this post and for the benefit of the literary challenged posters = Overrated (usage of hyperbole is employed here)
Messi = talented player who knows a system by heart, forwards and backwards and inside out
He's been playin in that set system since he was 13 - i.e. twelve years now....if any of CR7, Robben, Pato, Thomas Muller etc had been playing with the SAME team with the same players (with the additions of mainly superstars) with the current best player in the world (Ronaldinho) - they would have all been out of the world. Maybe not all would have been EXACTLY at his level but then again who's to know if they might also have surpassed his too

We live in a universe where while one person is starving to death in one part of the world, another is dying of obesity/ overating related illnesses. In the other universes of this multiverse Pato is hands down the best player after Ronaldo.....there's no room for drug cheats like Me$$i and Maradonna over there

Sad day for me. Sad to hear this. He hardly got the chance to show what he can do and in the little time he had, he did more than impress. People who think he was poor should think again. The only thing that happened here was his unbelievable series of injuries. Otherwise, before the whole injury fiasco, he was a name that most opponents feared. It's a shame it had to end like this and I will miss him.

Thanks for the memories.

KillerMax
And I just want to say, the way people started to talk about him was downright unjust. It's one thing to be frustrated and disappointed, but to start insulting him? For something he doesn't have control over? Why don't you start cussing van Basten while you're at it? Got a nasty injury that ended his career? F@ck him.
Jack Bauer
It's a sad story all around. He should have been our next star, the Sheva replacement, a sure world class player and so on. Who would have thought we would lose money on him selling him for so low at 23? But the whole injury sutation is one big mess. Hope he at least would have a good career from now on.
Zed.D
I wish we would've at least loaned him once to see how he does in another club. but we stubbornly kept hold of him and let him suffer [physically] at Milan, and now only want to sell. and let's face it, if his contract wasn't about to run out soon we'd still hear how he's not for sale and his the future of the club, blah blah.

I think if he goes it's because we want to cash in on him but I doubt, the way things have gone for him at Milan, he's dying to stay with us right now. And I don't blame him. Though I think it's mutual.

Get a clue bro. Pato did well when he played. End of story.
Under Carlo and Leo he was growing. Under Leo he played out of position and scored like crazy.

There's always the possibility that he could reclaim his place in the national team like "past-it" Ronaldinho has done (he's tearing it up in Brazil by the way)
