Maybe Hunter is just the type of player who struggles in a big team where he isn't top dog. Like Gilardino for example.

Indeed. Yet, the problem isn't just in the type of striker Hunter or Gila are, the problem lies in Milan as well IMO.

Yep, neither Carlo with Gila or Leo with Hunter tried to accomodate them in the system, especially Leo with Hunter.

Nice to know that, Fillipo. Good for him, I say! king.gif Same goes for Borriello. Things weren't working for them here in Milan, and it would have been really sad if it continued at their new clubs. A striker's job is to score and score regularly. They both are good blokes, I am sure, and at the same phase of their careers (25-30), so good performances from them will serve them well.

I'm glad we did not keep them tied here for another season, whatever spare action our attackers see this year should be for the youngster, develop them for the future. Bring Paloschi back, I say!

Gila with Carlo played a bazillion of games, yet he failed to impress. Leo barely gave Hunter any play time at all.

I was talking more about the system rather then playing time. Gila in the xmas tree and Hunter (even worse) playing on the right wing dry.gif

I think both have trouble performing for big teams...

Just wanted to mention that Huntelaar has scored 7 goals in 4 games of Euro 2012 qualifiers so far. Quite impressive.
acid911
Yeah, just checked that out. cool.gif Good going by him, and he probably knows that after his (mis)adventures at two leading European clubs this would be his last chance - and wants to make most of it. He did well enough to get to the two biggest teams in Real and Milan, so that is a credit to his talents.

I wish the lad good luck. He's 4 in 5 games for Scalke as well. smile.gif Most of them pretty decent goals. I never can forget his last goal in the Milan shirt, that volley from his left foot thirty-yards out. Woweey! ohmy.gif He could have been pretty good for us as well, but then again our crosses are horrible, and have been so ever since Cafu left. That, and the over-dependence on Ronaldinho! But no harm done on the Hunter, we sold him round about what we got him for. It would not have been nearly that good if (for some weird reason) his value dropped down to 10m.

I'd add that Leonard actually never gave him a real chance...he was just floating.

Well said, Fillipo. Yeah, that's one reason too. sad.gif If there's one gripe I have with Leo is the handling of Huntelaar, and playing no youth. Even if your youth players are of really low quality, they still deserve 10 minutes every match (leave the big ones like derby, etc). The game play had to be Pirlo to Ronaldiho to Borriello to Hunter and goal. Job done. Substitute the middle two players with Pato when he his fit, and Inzaghi for hunter after the 60 minute mark., etc. etc. Fact is a good coach is someone who plays to his players strengths. Makes most of what he's got.

As for Hunter, thing is, when he signed up for us, the first six months were just him adjusting. I was okay with that, give him time, he's a good finisher (well one of the best), will come through, yada, yada, yada. He scored his first ever brace, those two goals in the dying minutes, earned the 3 points clean, and I thought this was his big break, he'll play regularly now. The next match? He was benched. You don't bench a guy who scored two goals in the last outing, like ever!!! Then the second half of the season, Pato got injured, and he moved him to the right wing - you just don't do that, like ever!!!

He got us 7 goals in his first year, with limited continuity and playing time, this year with proper support he could have given us 14 or more. And he rarely got injured. His place (and strongest point) is in and around the penalty, prowling for any through ball or cross, and putting it in the back of the net. What is he gonna do on the right side, cross it to whom? Altering player positions this extremely is surely unwarranted. What's next? Let's make Pirlo the goalkeeper, just for the heck of it? Huntelaar has limited movement, but when he moves, he more often than not makes it count. Ronaldo (R99, damn you Cristiano angry.gif) for me was the best striker ever, he could finish from anywhere, anytime. But this Huntelaar guy, I have to admit is the finest poacher I have ever seen, the best in the box (and yeah, I have been following this guy for at least six or more years).

Personally I think Leo had a grudge with this guy, because he was not someone he wanted. Personally, I also think that Huntelaar was a brave warrior who tried to make the most of what he got, shifted positions when the team wanted him too, kept saying that he want to make his mark in Milan and will stay, but humbly left (to the tune of a few clapping hands, mind you) for the betterment of the club (unlike a few other leeches). And while we're at it, personally I am glad that he is gone. sleep.gif He'll do well for himself, I am sure, wherever he plays for the next few years at least.

biggrin.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif Only when I have time. And am in the flow. innocent.gif But yeah, you got that one right. Even my short posts are a couple of lines at least. And my normal ones are a paragraph. And a line for the bottom line to drive home the point, and wrap things up.

As you can see, this one can be perfectly classified as my normal one!
