Thanks for the pic.
Fillipo Simone
So, is his career over or what?
X-Offender
I guess so. He's been a free agent since last summer.
MizNelson
New Dida sighting. The favorite Brazilian of us white chicks. smile.gif

Great image. king.gif Still the best GK for me of all eternity!
Fillipo Simone
At least at Milan. My favorites remain Buffon and Schmeichel. Peter wasn't so good actually, but he had charisma.
acid911
Agreed, great choices, Fillipo. cool.gif The thing with Dida is some of his literally impossible saves that most other keepers would let in. I can count a dozen or two that he had no business stopping, but he did, and that was very much due to his athleticism and leap. They don't call him the Bagheera (the panther character from The Jungle Book) for nothing. No other keeper has come close in this regard, in the time I have been watching football.

This fact alone made me a fan of him the first few times I saw the guy in the Brazil NT. And then he signed up for Milan. Needless to say, the man shared hugs on the field with Paolo and Nesta, and the same dressing room with all the other Milan legends over the years. biggrin.gif That alone is a reason for respect.
MizNelson
A bundle of Dida tribute videos were recently removed from YouTube, because the account that created them (kiord) has been axed due to repeated copyright violations.
acid911
Oh, fizzle! sad.gif Darn you, Youtube! darn you to the place of no return! mad.gif angry.gif realmad.gif The Ronaldo HD documentary I posted was removed a few days back due to the same situation (account deleted). And now it's terribly hard to find, only found a torrent at a Chinese tracker that is invite only.

Still I have a few already downloaded on my other PC. Enough to last a lifetime.
X-Offender
All the admiration I had for Dida was washed away by the infinite and incredible series of howlers. Still, I will always respect him for his years in rossonero.
acid911
Well put, X-Off. smile.gif Around 300 matches for Milan in 10 years is a job well done, for a foreign keeper at least!
MizNelson
He definitely had more than his fair share of screwups but "infinite" is a bit of an exaggeration.
MizNelson
On 4/16, Dida apparently did an interview on the Sky show "I Signori del Calcio." Unfortunately, I can't find it online, but it's written out on Calciomercato. Link

Kurt is puzzled, he's sure there's no 16th month in a calendar year

Up until the infamous flare incident, Dida was the best keeper around imho. After that he lost that magic edge which made him so good.

So true. king.gif There were a few years when he was the absolute best. But this is the way with most keepers, they are at their ultimate peak for a couple of years, and then slide a bit. In essence their performances hover over a certain limit. That is unless they get hit by a burning flare.
MizNelson
Yeow. :') This was from the Stefano Borgonovo charity match back on May 26.

So, he's retired officially, or what?

Here's a similar picture:

I guess so. He's been a free agent since he left us one year ago.
MizNelson
He hasn't officially announced anything yet, but seeing him still playing something like an ambassador to Milan is nice.

Personally, I'd like to see him hang 'em up and keep some kind of role with the club.
Bluesummers
He should be our GK coach.
Fillipo Simone
We already have good goalie coaches.

But his retirement is funny to me. When he left Milan, he still could have easily played for 1 or 2 years minimum. If he had no intention of doing so, he could have announced it before season end.

And I really fail to believe he simply had no offers.
Fillipo Simone
I know at least one poster up here who'll appreciate this interview clip:

Thanks millions for the clip, Fillipo.

But please, Mediaset, get Abbiati the hell off my screen.

Dida scored with a header on Sunday and assisted Serginho's 4th (!!), in a Milan greats vs Indonesia greats friendly match.
acid911
Football, bloody hell, heh? mellow.gif laugh.gif Thanks for sharing, dst! Dida, Serginho, it's 2004 again! happy.gif Ah!
X-Offender
I always thought there was something wrong with Dida being a goalie. biggrin.gif
Milan Are Brilliant
Like a trip down memory lane, ah the old MF days cool.gif
Blackmaster
Today is his 38 birthday. smile.gif

king.gif king.gif king.gif

Yeah, but the champions league 2003/2004 final is his best I think.
acid911
Yes, well the CL 2003 final was about as epic as it gets. king.gif It was almost the man wrote the script himself. 3 saves in the shootout in the biggest match of the season, the expectations, the prize money difference, the titles, ending up on the losing side or winning it all, everything just comes down to that moment. He could have saved none, really!

But the thing was that the man was a penalty killer, he ate them for breakfast. wink.gif Without burping, mind you. I mean, therea are at least 20 penalty saves in this video alone. Definitely one of the best dead ball saver of this generation. Helped in no small amounts by his height, and lightening fast reflexes. So much was he sure of reading penalties that he moved at the very last possible minute. I've seen keepers with names starting from B to V embarassing themselves by preempting their dives - the wrong way.

What really takes the cake for me is this save at 3:37 in this video. The freekick save against inter. cool.gif I'd happily lay my life in front of an axe-murderer if I ever see a better one. That inter basturd hit the kick right for the top corner, it was as sure a goal as it gets. I mean, you can't do better than this as a player. And yet it was saved. Effortlessy. Dida's super reflxes and leap coming to the rescue. Magical!

And then there are other random impossible saves - from Juventus to United and whatstheirname.
MizNelson
I'd completely forgotten it was his b-day until late yesterday. Bad me.

The 03 CL will always be legend, but you can't talk about great saves without also including this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61fgYEzHkQU

Dida still looking for a club

"I was training in Italy and trying to find a team in Europe, only I could not find any that interested me," the 38-year-old Dida told Globoesporte. "I wanted to go to England, but could not because I'm non-EU.

And this is why the EU is retarded. Clearly a professional goalkeeper is going to be leeching off the state, right? rolleyes.gif

Get the hell out already.

i know it's old news,but Dida signed a one-year contract with Portuguesa.
MizNelson
After a long absence, Ol' Googly Eyes is back! biggrin.gif

He (and his apparent Jedi mind tricks) just inked a one-year deal with Gremio, following a not-too-shabby performance w/Portuguesa this season.
Fillipo Simone
I'll be happy to see him back in action, just like I'm happy to see you back here Miz smile.gif
arivanjj
glad he's still playing biggrin.gif. my fav keeper despite the last few years with milan

Agreed, the best news about visiting the Dida thread today was seeing a certified MizNelson post. biggrin.gif Oh the good times of old. And well, happy for the Panther too. Fantastic beginning to the new year, as far as I am concerned.

Aww, thanks. :')

C'mon, you know I can't give you guys up just like that; I've been gone for awhile because I'm not into Milan anymore as I was in the last half of the 2000s. It's just like when I quit my second job in November after 4 1/2 years there and now it's 90% new faces. I think the last time I posted anything on here was back in May.

Now all's I need to do is hear from the pirate and everything will be complete. smile.gif

Even if I go on another lengthy hiatus, rest assured that I'll still be hanging around here in some capacity. Y'all can't get rid of me THAT easily. :')
