Wow, that was some nice football by our team. Özil was by far the games best best player. And I bow in front of Hrubesch: First the U19 title, now the U21.
And that "assistance" by Englands Gk was unexpected.

You're also U17 champions.

I think you deserved the win, but the score was a bit harsh. Just got a bit lucky with the Johnson/Cattermole clearances. I thought Milner was by far our best player.. the rest were an embarassment. Theo doesn't deserve a U21 starting spot, forget senior team.

True, Milner was good, especially on that when Beck had to clear the ball right in front of the line. Walcott on the other hand didn't even get past Boenisch. But our defense was absolutely cool, great performance, maybe our first team will have some decent CB in the future.
But like I said, much of the credit for this great tournament goes to Hrubesch who's a great youth coach and still has the winning mentality which made German football so successful in the past (unlike the current generation like Ballack, Klose...). Hope the kids take that mentality with them.

Hopefully not, I could do without knocking us out of competitions again!

I believe you might win the next World Cup. When I heard it was in South Africa I thought a team like Argentina, Brazil or another warm country would win it, but many Brazilians and Spaniards complained it was too cold for them, apparently the WC will be in the winter, which is good!

I do feel for Milner, not the way he wanted to play his last ever U21 games. 46 caps for the U21s.. surely that's got to be some sort of Worldwide record!?

The England U19s beat the France U19s 3-1 after ET today to make the finals of the U19 European Championships. The French were a dirty bunch, they finished with 8 men! Villa's Nathan Delfouneso picked up the 2 goals in ET to win the game for the 3 Lions, well done lad! 4 goals in 4 games in the tournement now.

Delfouneso's 2nd goal - Fantastic stuff on the ball there, really got high hopes for this one. More like Yorke, less like Vassell please.

Ukraine currently lead Serbia 3-1 in the other SF.

England to play Ukraine in the final, the group game between the two finished 2-2. That's the final in both the U19s and U21s we've made this year, thankfully we actually have some available players for this one!

Yes, Dwight, came through the Villa youth system (after we took him from a school over in T&T).

Yep. Both broke all goal scoring records for the youth teams. Both had a great start to their Villa careers. One went stale, left to Man City, did nothing and ended up in Turkey. The other went on to be Uniteds top scorer for a few years and helped them to the treble. They were both very, very similar players, that's the difference hard work can make.

Ah so you wish to see him play for Birmingham City one day, huh?

How could Yorke do that by the way? Especially after spending so many years at Villa, I don't think I'd be able to play for my team's city's rivals even if I had only spend a single season with them.

He left us in a bad way, Villa fans really turned on him despite what he did for us, so he went to Birmingham and labelled them the 'biggest club in the City'.. they got relegated. laugh.gif

Though when Sunderland played at Villa Park the other season, due to him being 38 and it being unlikely that he'd play here again, the whole ground gave him a standing ovation when he came on.

Garmash scores for the hosts. Delfouneso has a goal (wrongly) disallowed for offside.
kurtsimonw
England beat Portugal 1-0 today. Portugal sit 3rd in the group, behind England and Greece who're both unbeaten I think. Portugals Under-21s aren't faring too well in the last few years.
kurtsimonw
Switzerland beat Nigeria 1-0 in what was seen as a huge shock in the U17 World Cup Final. I probably wouldn't have noticed but the Switzerland keeper, Benjamin Siegrist is in the youth academy and won the 'Golden Glove award' for being the best keeper in the tournement, a big well done to him. If he can be half as good as Friedel and Guzan then that's fantastic. Especially with England U19 keeper Elliot Parish also on our books. I like.
kurtsimonw
England won the Euro U17s for the first time, beating Spain.

We need to find a way to progress our players. Development isn't an issue (for some reason some think it is?) as we consistantly produce some very good, young players. But we can't seem to bring them on to that World class level. sad.gif
kurtsimonw
The doom and gloomers can shut up for another year, the U21s qualified for the Championships. I'm still waiting for this 'England have no players coming through' thing. The Germans didn't qualify, does this mean their future is in ruin? Thought not.

This has got to be one of the strongest U21 squads I've seen, incredible. Usually our squads are full of fringe players and backups, but the majority of these lot are playing a decent amount of football.

Thought Loach was going to be really good though the last few years at Watford he's struggled a bit.

It's crazy that Richards is still in there. How is Delph doing anyway? He was crazily good at Leeds, a little frustrating that Villa got him then stuck him on the bench, I know he's been hampered with injuries as well.

Quite like the look of Lansbury think he will be decent. Didn't he play in goal a few games back for the U21's and do pretty well?!

Quite a few EPL clubs were after Loach all summer, think United were one of them.

Delph has looked decent when he's played, though he really needs to calm down with his tackles, he just throws himself at the player! He has been in the squad for pretty much every game he's been fit to be honest, but he was out for about 8 months and came back and started against Spurs - then got injured again!

Don't remember him playing in goal!? Arsenal fans seem to be quite high on him though, can't imagine he'll be better than Wilshire though - they're going to have one hell of a Britis midfield in the future with the likes of Wilshire and Ramsey. Makes a nice change.

I don't know about Loach, he was in goal when he was 17 but at 22 coming onto 23 his career hasn't really progressed and he's made a few howlers at Watford of late. Perhaps never properly recovered since England were battered in the final and he had possibly his worst career game.

He did play at Leeds, kind of their mentality a little! Hopefully will show more promise in the next few seasons.

I thought he did because someone got sent off or injured or something, think he did really well as well, and he's by no means a big guy in football terms. Again he looked decent at Watford and I think he's doing ok at Norwich. Definitely one for the future. Heard so much hype about Wilshere for years but it does seem he has the talent to back it up, if he was Spanish the world would be touting him as the next Xavi/Cesc/Iniesta. Ramsey I'm not too sure about, sure he had decent games a few seasons back but after breaking his leg I think it's going to be tough for him, especially in Arsenal's midfield nowadays.

0-0 HT.

Both teams very good defensively, neither keeper having much to do so far.
Fishdoll
Nice elbow there from Albrighton.
kurtsimonw
He was caught between the defender and linesman and lifted his arm up to get between them and happened to catch him. It happened right in front of the linesman and ref and neither did anything about it which suggests they saw it as nothing more than an accident.

England U21s win in Serbia to qualify for U21 Euros. Last minute goal and then it all kicked off, some Serbia fans running on the pitch at the end of the game. Danny Rose got sent off which was total BS.

Always fun to win in places like that though. Think Turkey has to be the best place to rub it into their fans faces, mad much? **** you!

Danny Rose had monkey chants aimed at him, he responds by making monkey gestures back. Well done Danny, show them it doesn't get to you. Now let's see if Platini does anything but give them a pointless fine that won't affect them at all. Do your job.

The 40-man preliminary squad for the European Under-21 Championship includes Stephan El Shaarawy, Marco Verratti and Fabio Borini.

Coach Devis Mangia released the list of players this evening ahead of Italy’s participation in the tournament, which is in Israel from June 5-18.

This will then be whittled down to a squad of 23 for the competition itself by May 27.

Mangia and Cesare Prandelli have confirmed they will sit down to negotiate which players will make the step up from the Under-21 side to the senior team for the Confederations Cup this summer.

It is believed Verratti and El Shaarawy will be called up by Prandelli for the jaunt to Brazil.

Goalkeepers: Bardi (Novara), Colombi (Modena), Leali (Virtus Lanciano), Pigliacelli (Sassuolo)

Defenders: Antei (Sassuolo), Bianchetti (Verona), Biraghi (Cittadella), Caldirola (Brescia), Capuano (Pescara), Crescenzi (Novara), Crimi (Grosseto), De Sciglio (Milan), Donati (Grosseto), Frascatore (Sassuolo), Regini (Empoli), Sabelli (Bari), Romagnoli (Spezia), Sala (Amburgo), Santon (Newcastle)

Midfielders: Baselli (Cittadella), Bellomo (Bari), Berardi (Sassuolo), Bertolacci (Genoa), El Shaarawy (Milan) (since when he's a mid?), Fedato (Bari), Florenzi (Roma), Insigne (Napoli), Marrone (Juventus), Rossi (Brescia), Sansone (Parma), Saponara (Milan), Verratti (Psg), Viviani (Padova)

Forwards: Borini (Liverpool), De Luca (Atalanta), Destro (Roma), Gabbiadini (Bologna), Immobile (Genoa), Paloschi (Chievo), Zaza (Ascoli)
